Se poate spune că a fost şi strategie, dar prefe-răm să credem că World Poker Tour (WPT) ne-a ales pe noi. Atuurile? Le găsiţi în fiecare lună printre paginile revistei. Cert e că, practic din acest moment, Bucureştiul a intrat în rândul se-

lect al destinaţiilor pokerului mondial, fiind pentru prima oa-ră în istorie când cel mai mare turneu de poker vine în Ro-mânia. Casino Inside a răspuns pe măsura amplorii evenimentului, anunţând ca la Texas Hold’em: “All in”. Ast-fel, am antrenat tot „armamentul” din dotare.

Site-ul www.casinoinside.ro a relatat cele mai incitante momente ale turneului, urmărind îndeaproape strategiile de joc ale unor playeri de renume mondial şi autohton precum: Jose Carlos Mortensen, Claudiu Secară, Alain Medeşan, Mihai Manole, Azor Ran, Ciprian Hrişcă, Dragan Galic şi alţii. Reporterii şi editorii au realizat interviuri în exclusivitate şi au surprins totul în fotografii bine focusate.

WPT ne-a furnizat, de-altfel, nişte super materiale şi pentru numărul de faţă al revistei: şi mai multe interviuri, declaraţii ale câştigătorilor, prezentări de strategii. Astfel că, amatorul în ale pokerului se va putea convinge că nu e doar un simplu joc de noroc, iar cel fidel acestui mod de entertainment va citi pe nerăsuflate toată informaţia.

Acum WPT şi-a strâns fisele, a decis câştigătorii înaintea celui mai important eveniment WPT din tot anul, WPT Wor-ld Championship, care are loc la Bellagio în Las Vegas, şi ne-a oferit şansa să simţim fiorul sunetului de fise jucate în mâna playerului, în cadrul unui turneu adevărat de poker.

WPT a reprezentat un eveniment unic în Romania, iar ecourile acestuia sperăm să fie de durată, astfel încât ţara noastră să mai găzduiască şi alte turnee de renume mondi-al. Chiar dacă premiul nu a fost unul substanţial, aşa cum se pune la bătaie în alte ţări (ce-i drept, cu renume în ale pokerului), e de apreciat străduinţa organizatorilor de a creea mediul perfect de joc într-o ţară în care mentalitatea privind gamblingul începe uşor să capete un alt contur, mai favorabil.

Aşadar, pe când următorul turneu de o asemenea anver-gură în România?

Bucharest has now entered the select area of the world poker destinations, as it was for the first time in history that the biggest poker tournament came to Romania. Casino Inside was up to the amplitude of the event, saying “All in”, just like in Texas Hold’em. Thus, we put our entire forces to work.

The www.casinoinside.ro website revealed some of the most exciting moments of the tournament, wat-ching closely the game strategies of some of the best world and local players like: Jose Carlos Morten-sen, Claudiu Secara, Alain Medesan, Mihai Manole, Azor Ran, Ciprian Hrisca, Dragan Galic and others. The reporters and editors took exclusive interviews and reproduced the atmosphere through well focu-sed photographs.

WPT was also the source of some extraordinary materials from this issue of the magazine: more in-terviews, statements of the winners, strategies dis-closures. In this way, the amateur poker player will have the chance to convince him/herself that this is not simply a game of luck, and the one regular to this type of entertainment will read the entire information with thirst.

WPT has now gathered all the chips and declared the winners, before the most important event of the entire year, WPT World Championship, which is to be held in Bellagio, Las Vegas. This gave us the chance to feel the thrill of the sound of chips, in the hands of the player, during a real poker tournament.

WPT was a very unique event in Romania, and we hope for its echoes to last, for our country to host more world class tournaments. Even if the prize was not a substantial one, as it was in other countries (wi-th global poker reputation), the strive of the organi-zers to create a perfect environment for gaming is to be appreciated, especially in a country in which the gambling mentality is now starting to change.

Therefore, when shall we wait for the next tourna-ment of this size in Romania?

What is your job here, in Casino Bucharest?I am the General Manager of Casino Bucharest and I was appoin-

ted by Casinos Austria International (CAI). I am also the South-East Europe Area Manager for CAI, where my role involves looking for op-portunities in neighboring countries such as Serbia, Greece, Bulgaria, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia, Albania and Slovenia. I also hold the position of Chairman of the Romanian Casinos Associa-tion.

Competition among casinos is interesting, especially these days. What were the effects of the crisis on you?

Competition has always been strong in Bucharest. However last year brought probably the biggest upheaval and turning point in the Romanian gaming market. Beginning in June 2009 we began to noti-ce the effects of the economic crisis: visitor number started declining and also the amount of money played by each person diminished. The global crisis has had a big impact upon the number of business travelers visiting Romania, and the local recession has hit local pla-yers even harder. All have less money available to spend on gaming.

The second blow was the change in the gaming law. Our associati-on supported a change in the gaming law as the old law was not adapted to the changes in technology and market conditions that had taken place over the previous 10 years. However the very large incre-ase in taxation came at a very unfortunate time due to the recession. What we have observed since July of last year is that all local casinos are suffering, not only Casino Bucharest, and as a consequence four casinos (so far) have closed their doors in Bucharest. The ones which were operating outside of the city centre were the ones to suffer the most but it doesn’t mean that the rest of us are safe.

Everyone struggles for whatever business is available at the mo-ment and all operators are using different and creative approaches: some offer incredible lotteries of apartments and cars, cash draws, live shows etc. We are inclined to believe that such actions increase visitor numbers, but not necessarily play at the tables. Our focus is therefore to offer increased value for each guest that visits Casino Bucharest, which means improving the quality and variety of food and beverage services, refurbishing our Salon Privé, the bar and the di-ning areas, and also to improve gaming options, game rules and table limits. We welcome suggestions from our guests and thus have a constant improvement in our services. Starting with April 1st we also introduced gaming in Lei as it was a request of the customers to ha-ve the option in to play in LEI and EUR.

Even if it seems simple, the strategy of a woman who leads a casino is rather complex. An interesting interview with Michelle Cummins about how to constantly improve the casino’s services these days by attracting genuine players rather than just large numbers of visitors.

Care este rolul dumneavoastră aici, la Casino Bucharest?Sunt directorul general al Casino Bucharest şi am fost trimisă aici de

Casinos Austria International (CAI). Sunt managerul pe Europa de sud-est pentru CAI căutând oportunităţi în ţările învecinate, precum Serbia, Grecia, Bulgaria, Croaţia, Bosnia şi Herţegovina, Macedonia, Albania, şi Slovenia. Totodată, sunt şi preşedintele Asociaţiei Cazinourilor din Româ-nia.

Competiţia în rândul cazinourilor este una interesantă, mai ales în aceste zile. Care au fost efectele crizei asupra dvs.?

Competiţia a fost tot timpul strânsă în Bucureşti. Ultimii ani au fost, probabil, anii de răsturnare a situaţiei şi un punct de cotitură în industria de gaming din România. Din iunie 2009, am început să simţim efectele crizei economice: numărul vizitatorilor era mai mic, iar suma de bani jucată de fiecare era în descreştere. A fost un impact destul de puternic asupra celor din turismul de gaming, dar şi asupra jucătorilor locali, care aveau mai puţini bani pentru joc.

Al doilea impact puternic a fost dat de noua lege de gaming. Asociaţia noastră a susţinut modificarea legii jocurilor de noroc, întrucât vechea le-ge nu a fost adaptată schimbărilor privind tehnologia şi condiţiile pieţei ce s-au produs în ultimii 10 ani. Ea a venit într-un moment în care întreaga industrie de gaming era lovită deja de recesiune. Ce am observat încă din iulie anul trecut, este că operatorii chiar au de suferit, nu doar Casino Bu-charest, patru cazinouri (până acum) fiind nevoite să-şi oprească definitiv activitatea. Cele care au fost deschise la marginea oraşului au fost prime-le care au dispărut, însă asta nu înseamnă că noi, restul, suntem în sigu-ranţă.

Cu toţii ne luptăm să mai avem activitate şi încercăm să găsim o stra-tegie: unii oferă loterii incredibile cu premii în apartamente sau maşini, show-uri live etc. Noi tindem să credem că aceste lucruri măresc numărul de vizitatori, însă nu şi frecvenţa de joc la mese. De aceea ne concentrăm mai mult pentru a aduce un plus de valoare fiecărui client, adică am îm-bunătăţit calitatea mâncarii şi a băuturilor, am remobilat Salonul Privat, barul şi zonele unde se serveşte cina şi am extins meniul. În acest fel, pu-tem avea o îmbunătăţire continuă a serviciilor noastre. Începând cu 1 Aprilie, am introdus şi jocul în lei, tot la cerinţa clienţilor noştri, astfel ca ei să aibă opţiunea de a juca şi în lei şi în euro.

Strategia este deci să oferiţi servicii mai bune clienţilor...Exact! Dacă organizezi loterii, doar o singură persoană din 100 sau

1000 poate să câştige. La Casino Bucharest vrem ca toţi să fie câştigă-tori; indiferent de rezultat, ei ar trebui să părăsească localul fericiţi de ex-perienţă.

Este un plan pe termen lung şi nu este creat pentru a atrage oamenii care nu au intenţia de a juca. Este posibil ca numărul vizitatorilor noştri să fie mai mic, însă procentajul de joc este mai mare. Mai important pentru noi este să oferim un mediu mai confortabil şi mai discret, astfel încât cli-

sino Bucharest we want everybody to win; re-gardless of the outcome they should leave the casino feeling happy with the experience. It is a long-term plan and it is not created in order to attract large numbers of people who have no real intention to play. We may have fewer visitors than other casinos, but a higher percentage of our members actually play. This strategy works for us also because we have a smaller location so our focus has to be on quality food and beverage services and a su-perior gaming experience. Offering live shows or other attractions would be intrusive to gu-ests looking for a discrete gaming environ-ment.

Do you believe that law was adopted at a proper time?

The new gaming law had been under dis-cussion for at least 4 years and market condi-tions meant that passage of a new law was essential. Everyone knew that a new law wo-uld come and had started making preparati-ons, but some last-minute changes to the law and the very significant increase in taxes left many of us surprised. The second half of last year was a very busy time for operators as we tried to comply with the new technical and fi-nancial requirements. The increase in taxation simultaneous with the worsening economic crisis made it a very tough time for all.

If more time had been given to the discus-sion of the actual taxation levels I believe that some adjustments could have been made in anticipation of the impact of the recession. Casinos and other gaming operators are also hit hard by the manner in which gaming reve-nues are calculated; with income tax calcula-ted on revenues (winning nights only!), casi-nos pay income tax even when reporting an operating loss. Something will need to chan-ge or even more casinos will close their doors, and the projections of a healthy income to the State Budget from gaming will fall far short. The market hasn’t hit rock bottom yet. I am not sure how other casinos have been affec-ted but for us, with the new tax levels almost 4 times higher than previously, our revenues have dropped back to 2003 levels. We are hopeful that the next few months will bring positive change, both in market conditions

and also in the fiscal regime imposed on casinos.

What are your plans, taking into consideration all these as-pects of the market?

I think that everyone on the market is fighting to survive and to get through this harsh period. Casinos are using different approaches, with many focusing on cutting costs. As a consequence large num-bers of highly-skilled casino employees are finding themselves witho-ut work. Our focus right now is on increasing revenues, not on cut-ting costs. We feel that this is a better approach over the long-term; it has a positive impact on guests whilst avoiding, where possible, a ne-gative impact on loyal employees. Hopefully our approach will be suc-cessful. We definitely would like to expand in the future but this really depends on how the market and legislative environment develop in time, right now the future looks rather somber.

Tell us a few things about the Association...The Romanian Casinos Association (RCA) was set up in 2007 by

three major international gaming companies present on the Romani-an market; Olympic Entertainment, Casinos Austria International, and Queen Investments, in order to represent the interests of casinos

Oferind show-uri live sau alte atracţii asta ar deranja oaspeţii care caută un mediu discret de joc.

Credeţi că legea a fost adoptată într-un moment potrivit?Noua lege privind jocurile de noroc a fost pusă în discuţie de cel puţin

patru ani şi condiţiile pieţei a dat de înţeles că trecerea la o nouă lege era esenţială. Toată lumea ştia că se va adopta o nouă lege, fapt pentru care ne-am şi pregătit, dar unele modificări de ultim moment ale legii şi majo-rarea semnificativă a impozitelor, ne-a luat pe mulţi dintre noi prin surprin-dere. A doua jumătate a anului trecut a fost foarte încărcată pentru ope-ratori, întrucât am încercat să ne conformăm noilor cerinţe tehnice şi financiare. Creşterea impozitelor simultan cu agravarea situaţiei economi-ce a determinat o perioadă foarte grea pentru noi toţi. Dacă s-ar fi acor-dat mai mult timp dezbaterilor privind nivelurile de taxare, consider că ar fi putut fi făcute unele ajustări care să preîntâmpine impactul recesiunii. Cazinourile şi alţi operatori de jocuri sunt, de asemenea, grav afectaţi de

operators. Other local gaming associations were increasingly focused on the needs of slot operators and we felt a distinct association re-presenting the differing needs of casino operators was required.

One of the first tasks of the Association was to develop a joint ap-proach to the proposed new Gaming Law, allowing us a stronger voi-ce in the drafting of the law.

The RCA is also a member of the European Casino Association, which gives us a „voice” in the European Parliament. The European Casinos Association lobbies hard to put across the needs and view-points of European casinos. We share information about policies, pro-cedures and best practices and we work together in order to improve the standards within the casinos.

Which are the three of the most important accomplishments of Casino Bucharest?

For me personally, it was when I took over in 2001. Over the years Casino Bucharest had slowly slipped from its position at the top of the market as it had not taken into consideration new competition. To begin we introduced more generous procedures and new benefits for casino guests, and developed Casino Bucharest into a truly welco-ming Players’ Club. An important part of this process involved promo-ting local staff to senior management positions previously held by fo-reign staff. Casino Bucharest now has a dedicated, highly-skilled and loyal team of staff who know the local market and who are proactive in efforts to improve services to our guests. The results have really paid off.

Another accomplishment is that so far during this crisis we have made every effort not to cut salaries or reduce staff numbers. We know that many casinos have had to take this difficult step but we are doing our best not to impact on our employees too much.

Our biggest accomplishment is that we never stand still. We do not believe in complacency; true perfection is something we constantly work towards and this requires great flexibility and creativity, and a willingness to constantly adapt.

Ceva trebuie să se schimbe, în caz contrar şi mai multe cazinouri vor fi nevoite să-şi închidă porţile, iar proiecţiile unui venit sănătos la bugetul de stat din jocurile de noroc ne se vor putea concretiza. Piaţa încă nu a ajuns la capătul prăpastiei.

Nu ştiu dacă şi alte cazinouri percep acelaşi lucru, însă în timp ce taxe-le aproape că au crescut de 4 ori, veniturile au ajuns la nivelul din 2003. Prin asta trecem noi acum, impactul crizei este mare asupra pieţei. Spe-răm ca următoarele luni să aducă o schimbare, atât în privinţa condiţiilor de pe piaţă, cât şi a regimului fiscal impus cazinourilor.

Care sunt planurile dvs., luând în considerare toate aceste as-pecte ale pieţei?

Cred că toată lumea încearcă din răsputeri să supravieţuiască şi să treacă cu bine peste această perioadă. Cazinourile abordează diferite as-pecte, multe dintre ele axându-se pe reducerea costurilor. Ca o consecin-ţă în acest sens, un număr mare de angajaţi cu înaltă calificare în cazinou au fost puşi în situaţia să-şi piardă locul de muncă.

Noi nu ne concentrăm acum pe reducerea costurilor, ci pe creşterea veniturilor. Credem că, pe termen lung este mai indicat să procedăm aşa. Acest lucru are un impact pozitiv asupra clienţilor, evitând în acelaşi timp, dacă este posibil, un impact negativ angajaţilor cu vechime. Să sperăm că va funcţiona. Am vrea cu siguranţă să ne extindem, dar depinde de modul în care se mişcă piaţa, deoarece, la acest moment, lucrurile nu stau bine.

Spuneţi-ne câteva cuvinte şi despre Asociaţie...Asociaţia Cazinourilor din România a fost fondată în 2007 de trei com-

panii internaţionale importante, prezente şi pe piaţa de aici - Olympic En-tertainment, Casinos Austria International, şi Queen Investments - pentru a reprezenta interesele operatorilor de cazinouri.

Pe piaţă mai există Asociaţii, dar principala lor abordare era pentru operatorii de sloturi, şi mediile sunt totuşi diferite. Primul motiv pentru înfi-inţare a fost faptul că aşteptam noua lege şi ne doream să avem o abordare comună, pentru a avea mai multă putere asupra legii. Suntem, de asemenea, membrii ai Asociaţiei Europene de Ca-zinouri, care ne face să fim auziţi în Parlamentul European. Ei duc un lobby puternic pentru a face înţelese nevoile şi punctul de vedere al cazinouri-lor. Se poartă discuţii pe tema regulamentelor, pro-cedurilor şi practicilor de bună credinţă, lucrăm îm-preună pentru a îmbunătăţi standardele cazinourilor.

Care sunt cele mai importante trei realizări ale Casino Bucharest?

Pentru mine personal, a fost când am preluat conducerea în 2001. Casino Bucharest îşi pierdu-se câteva dintre poziţiile strategice pe piaţă, fiind-că a omis să ia în considerare competiţia. De ace-ea, când l-am preluat, am introdus proceduri şi beneficii noi pentru clienţi, şi am dezvoltat Casino Bucharest într-un adevărat Players’ Club. O parte importantă a acestui proces a presupus promova-rea personalului local pe poziţiile de conducere ocupate anterior de personal din străinătate. Casi-no Bucharest are acum o echipă dedicată, cu înal-tă calificare, un personal loial care cunoaşte piaţa locală şi care îşi doreşte să îmbunătăţească servi-ciile pentru clienţii noştri. Rezultatele au meritat.

O altă realizare este că, pe perioada crizei, nu am făcut reduceri de personal. Ştim că alte cazino-uri au fost nevoite să facă asta, dar noi am încer-cat să nu afectăm angajaţii pe cât posibil.

Cea mai mare realizare a noastră e faptul că suntem tot timpul în mişcare. Nu ne încredem în propria satisfacţie. Perfecţiunea este ceva la care noi lucrăm mai mereu, iar asta necesită multă fle-xibilitate şi creativitate, precum şi de a te adapta în mod constant.

Am avut o idee prin 1994 când, împreună cu un prieten, intenţionam să facem o agen-ţie de publicitate când încă nu era exploatat acest domeniu, dar au venit puternic marile agenţii şi pur şi simplu ne-au spulberat. Pri-etenul meu s-a ambiţionat să rămână şi a reuşit să se menţină printre cei mai buni, dar într-un timp destul de lung şi cu multe sacrificii. Eu am rămas în presă pentru că

asta îmi plăcea. Am mai avut nişte tentative, spre exemplu, am avut o firmă de detectivi particulari când un astfel de serviciu era ile-gal şi în acest caz legitimaţia de ziarist era o foarte bună acoperire.

Din câte ştiu, ai debutat în presă ca jurnalist la Evenimentul zilei, ocupându-te de investigaţii politice…

Da, aşa e! După aceea, după ce am con-statat că am făcut aproape tot ce se putea face pe investigaţii politice, am schimbat macazul pentru că mă plictisisem, aşa că am ajuns redactor-şef la revista Playboy, după care am trecut la televiziune. Am facut totul aşa, în etape. Numai radio n-am făcut pentru că, deşi am fost foarte tentat şi mi-a plăcut întotdeauna acest domeniu, salariile vehiculate erau foarte mici şi nu puteai să faci totul numai aşa, de plăcere.

Cum cataloghezi tu domeniul acesta, al gambling-ului?

Din afară, aşa cum privesc eu, e fascinant, e o lume glamour-oasa în care se învârt mulţi bani, fete frumoase, pasiuni mistuitoa-re. Dacă încep să aprofundez acest dome-niu, probabil că îi aflu apoi toate carenţele şi e posibil să-mi schimb impresia. Dar, pentru moment, îl percep aşa cum v-am zis şi îl ur-măresc de la distanţă, prin filme şi povestiri de la prieteni. Am cunoscut nişte oameni care aveau microbul jocurilor de noroc, ce, practic, i-a distrus, aşa că prefer să stau de-oparte. Nu ştiu cât de labil sunt eu psihic până la urmă, şi apoi îmi pun întrebarea: “dacă mă las dominat?” Aşa că, prefer să rămân ceea ce sunt acum. I had an idea in 1994 when, along with a friend of mine, we wanted to start up an advertising agency when this field was not exploited yet, but the major agencies came along and practically smashed us. My friend struggled to continue and mana-ged to hold on with the best, but it took a long time and a lot of sacrifices. I continued with journalism because that was what I liked. I also tried something else, for example I owned a private detective agency when this service was illegal and, in this case, the journalist bad-ge was a very good cover.

As far as I know, you started your jour-nalist career at “Evenimentul Zilei”, in poli-tical investigations…

Yes, that’s true! After that, after I discovered I had done almost everything that could be do-ne in political investigations, I changed the area because I was getting bored, therefore I ended up editor in-chief for Playboy magazine, and then I swapped to television. I did everything step by step. Radio is the only thing I didn’t do because, even if I was very drawn in to and I have always liked this area, the ear-nings were very low and you couldn’t do everything just for fun.

How do you see this gambling field?As I see it, as an outsider, it’s fascinating; it’s

a glamorous world where a lot of money, bea-utiful girls, and consuming passions are spin-ning. If I were to look deeper into this matter, I

would probably find all the deficiencies and I would possibly change my impression. But, for the moment, I perceive it as I told you and I follow it from afar, throughout movies and tales from friends. I met some people who had gambling addiction, which practically destroyed them; therefore I pre-fer to stay aside. I’m not sure how tempera-mental I am after all, and then I ask myself: “what happens if I let myself dominated?” Therefore, I prefer to remain what I am now. If we were to take everything as an enter-tainment, then I am in for anything.

It is said, in Romania at least, that gambling is either for weak and nosy people, or just for those who have no-thing to spend their money on. Do you think that this is a matter related to our mentality or it is linked to the fact that gambling itself is often perceived as a luxury product?

It all comes to the superficiality that we have in our genes. And above superficiality, there is this excitement to deliver an opini-on and to believe that you know it all. That is the reason I did not allow myself to ex-press a strong opinion, but I have just pre-sented how I perceive this industry. Overall, my impression is a good one, but nobody in Romania has the decency to admit when they do not know what’s what in an area.

What should the actors of this indus-try do in order to change this type of mentality?

First of all, it is clear for some what the media reflects about the gambling industry. To that effect, those in charge with adverti-sing in media should fight back the spread of this kind of news, which is unwillingly as-sociated with other inappropriate aspects, due to the fact that one doesn’t know what actually happens inside a casino. Unfortu-nately, the general impression does not flatter this industry, mainly due to the news that spoil the image of those who could ex-press and transmit an adequate message about what this world actually represents. The gambling industry should recognize exactly the button that needs to be pushed to balance this scale and it should not cre-ate confusions; then, the industry should identify the concept of image that needs to be used. You should have a proper image for the eyes of those who want to access this field, without taking into account what an average person might have read in some newspaper in the subway about what takes place in casinos.

This should not have any effect upon you. Likewise, some may consider I am a retard, but I simply do not care! The thing is to be aware of what you are doing and also to want to look as you are; then, the suc-cess will naturally and normally appear. In my show, I try to be natural. The problem is in fact much more complex and delicate and it concerns the ones who have money in Romania, because the person that enters a casino is not an average man and I belie-ve that the situation is the same in other

Totul ţine de o superficialitate pe care o avem în gene. Şi mai mult decât superficialita-te, există bucuria asta de a ne da cu părerea şi a ne crede că suntem a toate ştiutori. De aceea nici eu nu mi-am permis să am o opinie strictă, ci v-am zis cam cum percep această industrie. În general, părerea mea este una ok, dar în România nimeni nu are decenţa să re-cunoască atunci când nu se pricepe într-un domeniu.

Şi ce ar trebui să facă actorii de pe pia-ţa asta ca să schimbe tipul de mentalitate de care aminteam anterior?

În primul rând, pentru unii e clar ce apare în ziare despre industria de gambling. În acest sens, cei care se ocupă de promovarea în pre-să trebuie să contracareze fenomenul propa-gării genului acesta de ştiri, care, vrând-ne-vrând, este asociat cu alte aspecte nepotrivite, pentru că lumea nu ştie ce se întâmplă cu adevărat într-un cazinou. Din păcate, percep-ţia generală nu este una favorabilă acestei industrii tocmai din cauza acelor ştiri care le strică imaginea celor care ar putea să exprime şi să transmită un mesaj ok despre ce în-seamnă lumea asta. Industria de gambling trebuie să ştie exact pe ce buton trebuie apă-sat ca să se echilibreze această balanţă şi să nu se mai creeze confuzii şi apoi să identifice vehiculul de imagine ce trebuie folosit. Voi tre-buie să aveţi o imagine în regula în ochii celor care vor să intre pe acest segment, fără să vă intereseze ce spune un om oarecare care a citit vreo ştire într-un ziar în metrou despre ce se întâmplă în cazinouri. Lucrul ăsta nu trebu-ie să vă afecteze. Aşa cred unii şi despre mine că sunt un retard, dar pur şi simplu nu mă in-teresează! Ideea e să-ţi asumi ceea ce faci şi să nu vrei să pari ceea ce nu eşti şi atunci re-zultatul va veni firesc şi normal. Şi eu în emisi-une încerc să fiu natural. Problema este de fapt una mult mai complexă şi mai fină şi îi vizează pe cei care au bani în România, pentru că într-un cazinou nu intră omul de rând şi cred că şi în alte ţări situaţia e aceeaşi. Dacă la alţii cei cu bani au şi o imagine bună, la noi situaţia stă puţin altfel.

Ieşind puţin din domeniul acesta, zi-mi ce hobby-uri ai, având în vedere că jocuri-le de noroc nu-s partea ta forte?

În ordinea importanţei pentru mine ca hob-by-uri este de departe muzica. Dacă nu ascult măcar o oră muzică, simt că-mi lipseşte ceva. Şi asta e o problemă care vine de când m-am născut. Când nu vroiam să adorm, mama îmi punea radioul între perne să cânte şi ascultam tot programul de melodii dintr-o emisiune nu-mită pe atunci “Muzical nocturn”. Astfel că am trecut prin tot ceea ce înseamnă muzică.

O altă nebunie o reprezintă călătoriile. Am prea puţini bani pentru cât mi-aş dori să mă plimb, dar la două-trei week-end-uri fug din ţară.

Another crazy one is traveling. I have too little money as I would like to travel, but two to three week-ends I escape abroad.

Blackjackul, cunoscut și ca 21, Vingt-et-un (varianta franceză a 21) sau Pontoon, a devenit al 2-lea cel mai popular joc printre cei ce frec-ventează cazinourile. Scopul în blackjack este să acumulezi cărţi cu un total cât mai apropiat de 21, fără însă a-l depăși. Cărţile care valorează 10 puncte sunt Valeţii, Damele și Regii. Așii valorează un punct sau 11, oricare valoare este mai convenabilă. Celelalte cărţi au exact valoarea înscrisă pe ele. Dacă un jucător și casa sunt la egalitate, nimeni nu câș-tigă. Dacă un as și un zecar sunt primele cărţi primite (Blackjack), ele arată automat câștigătorul la o cotă de 1.5 la 1, asta dacă nu se întâm-plă ca și casa să aibă aceleași cărţi. Un jucător poate să dea pas în ori-ce moment.

Pentru a câștiga, trebuie să învingi dealerul, fără a merge însă peste 21, care se numește busting, caz în care pierzi automat. Câștigătorul este orice persoană care are totalul cel mai apropiat de 21, sumă la ca-re se ajunge adunând valoarea cărţilor. La masa de blackjack sunt de obicei 6 jucători. Se folosesc fie 6 fie 8 pachete de cărţi, ce sunt ames-tecate și puse laolaltă de către dealer, fiind apoi plasate într-un dispozi-tiv de împărţit cărţile ce se numește ‚shoe’.

Înainte de a primi cărţile, jucătorii trebuie să plaseze un pariu. Apoi, fiecare primește două cărţi, ambele cu faţa în sus. Dealerul primește una cu faţa în sus și cealaltă cu faţa în jos. Fiecare jucător decide apoi dacă să mai ceară o carte sau să stea, pentru a se apropia de totalul de 21, fără să îl depășească. Cei care reușesc să facă asta așteaptă și rân-dul dealerului. The blackjack, also known as Twenty-one, Vingt-et-un (French for Twenty-one), or Pontoon, has turned out to be the second game in popularity among casino visitors. The object of the blackjack game is to accumulate cards with point totals as close to 21 without going over 21. Face cards (Jacks, Queens and Kings) are worth 10 points. Aces are worth 1 or 11, whichever is preferable. Other cards are re-presented by their number. If player and the House tie, it is a push and no one wins. To win you need to beat the dealer without busting. You bust when your cards total to more than 21 and you lose automatically. The win-ner is whoever has closest to a total of 21. You reach 21 by adding up the values of the cards. The blackjack table seats about 6 players. Either six or eight decks of cards are used and are shuffled together by the dealer and placed in a card dispensing box called ‚Shoe’.

Before receiving any cards players must place a wager. Then the players are dealt two cards face up. The dealer gets one face up, one face down. Each player in turn either stays or takes more cards to try and get closer to 21 without busting. Players who do not bust wait for the dealer’s turn. When all the players are done, the dealer turns up the down card. By rule, on counts of 17 or higher the dealer must stay; on counts of 16 or lower the dealer must draw. If you make a total of 21 with the first two cards (a 10 or a face and an Ace), you win automatically. This is called ‚Blackjack’. If you have Blackjack, you will win one and one-half times your bet unless the dealer also has Blackjack, in which case it is a Push or a Tie (or a Stand-off) and you get your bet back.

The remaining players with a higher count than the dealer win an amount equal to their bet. Players with a lower count than the dealer

Ca multe alte cazinouri cu istorie din România şi cel din Vatra Dornei e doar poveste. Istoricul Cazinoului sau a Casei de cură (Kurhaus) din Va-tra Dornei, cum a fost denumită iniţial clădirea, este legat de descoperirea şi recunoaşterea inter-naţională a apelor minerale de la Dorna, ale căror calităţi erau similare cu cele de la Gastein, Karls-bad, Mareinbad, etc. Conform documentelor vre-mii, la început erau amenajate în staţiunea balne-ară câteva camere pentru cărţi, bacara, zaruri şi ruletă. Numărul mare de jucători şi faptul că cei mai mulţi aparţineau înaltei societăţi au făcut improprii cele câteva camere de joc şi, astfel, s-a conturat din ce în ce mai puternic ideea unui cazi-no.

Realizarea proiectului a fost încredinţată de către Ministerul Imperial al Agriculturii arhitectu-lui vienez Peter Paul Brang, acesta fiind avizat în 1895. Construcţia edificiului a fost realizată pe malul râului Dorna, amenajat şi el şi despărţit de acesta printr-o promenadă, care a purtat numele “Împăratul Franz Josef”. Construcţia a fost înche-iată în anul 1898, iar deschiderea oficială s-a fă-cut la 10 iulie 1899. Finanţarea lucrărilor a fost făcută de către Ministerul Imperial al Agriculturii, din Fondul Religionar al Mitropoliei Bucovinei. Edificiul realizat în stil eclec-tic, cu un vag aer al Renaşterii germane, are o faţadă de 60 m lungime, că-tre râu şi o alta simetrică spre parcul staţiunii. Creşterea numărului de tu-rişti (de la 587 în 1886 la 2144 în 1905), precum şi deschiderea legăturilor feroviare cu Cernăuţi şi Transilvania a impus modernizarea acestuia. După primul război mondial, când oraşul şi, implicit, cazinoul au suferit distrugeri a fost necesară restaurarea acestuia. Această operaţiune a adus cu sine şi modificări structurale, prin adăugarea unei aripi restaurant, surmontată de o terasă spre parc. Aceste transformări, precum şi cele ce au urmat după cel de al doilea război mondial au alterat caracterul construcţiei. După naţiona-lizarea din 1948, între anii 1950-1983, destinaţia obiectivului a fost schim-bată, executându-se şi un tronson separat care a avut destinaţia de resta-urant. Urmează, cronologic, lucrările începute în anii 1989-1990, lucrări neterminate nici astăzi, care au dus la degradarea cazinoului ce a fost mult timp simbol al oraşului - staţiune. Începând cu anul 2003 Cazinoul Balnear Vatra Dornei a reintrat în atenţia Ministerului Turismului, în cadrul unui program care viza reintroducerea în circuitul turistic al cazinourilor şi staţi-unilor turistice de referinţă din ţară. Ministerul şi-a propus la acea vreme un pachet de 14 programe speciale ce aveau ca scop reintroducerea Româ-niei în circuitul turistic european şi mondial. Numai că ministerul nu a alo-cat şi fondurile necesare continuării refacerii edificiului. După scurt timp clădirea a fost retrocedată Arhiepiscopiei Sucevei şi Rădăuţilor.

As many other historic casinos in Romania, that of Vatra Dornei re-presents now just a story. The history of the casino and the cure hou-se (Kurhaus) in Vatra Dornei, the initial name of the building, relates to the international discovery and recognition of mineral waters in Dorna, with similar qualities to those of Gastein, Karlsbad, Mareinbad etc. According to the documents of the times, the health resort had some halls specially designed for card games, baccarat, dice and rou-lette. The large number of players and the fact that these belonged to the high society made some of these rooms appear improper for ga-ming. This lead to the idea of a casino.

The Imperial Ministry of Agriculture entrusted the design of the project to the Viennese architect Peter Paul Brang, who had received his authorization in 1985. The construction of the edifice was done by the Dorna River. A promenade deck which was called “Franz Josef Em-peror “, separated the two. The construction ended in 1898 and the grand opening on 10 of July 1899. The work was entirely financed by the Imperial Ministry of Agriculture, using the money from the religi-ous metropolitan fund of Bucovina. The edifice was done in an eclec-tic style, with a touch of the German renaissance, having a 60 metres long facade towards the river and a symmetric one towards the park of the resort. The increase of the number of tourists (from 587 in 1886 to 2144 in 1905) as well as the opening of the railway tracks

which linked the town with Cer-nauti and Transilvania, somehow asked for a restoration and mo-dernization of the place. After WWI, when both the town and the casino were severely dama-ged, a rehabilitation of the site was needed. This implied structu-ral modifications, as a new wing was added for a restaurant, as well as a terrace looking towards the park. All these transformati-ons as well as those that followed after WWII, tainted the image of the building itself. After the 1948 nationalization, between 1950-1983, it was changed the purpose of the building. A separate part was left to serve as a restaurant. Next in line were the changes do-ne between 1989-1990, which stay unfinished up to this day, changes which completely degra-ded the casino - an ex symbol of the resort-city. Starting with

de fotbal Steaua Bucureşti, Gigi Becali, ar fi interesat să cumpere clădirea cazinoului din municipiul Vatra Dornei şi terenul pe care se află acesta, lu-cru ce nu s-a mai concretizat, autoritatile au mai avut şansa să spere în clipa în care au anunţat o nouă ofertă. De data aceasta, din partea unui grup de investitori de origine arabă, care şi-au anunţat intenţia de cumpă-ra monumentul istoric, devenit de-a lungul timpului o ruină. Acestia ar fi intenţionat să restaureze clădirea cazinoului, iar în spatele ei să constru-iască un hotel de cinci stele şi un restaurant. În interiorul cazinoului, inves-titorii arabi vroiau să facă o sală de cinema, mai multe spaţii comerciale şi, desigur, un nou cazinou. Totul pentru 1,5 milioane euro. Nici despre aceas-ta oferta nu se mai stie nimic. Cert e că, planul de acţiuni pe anul 2009 cu obiectivele cuprinse în programul de guvernare ale Prefecturii judeţului Suceava cuprinde la capitolul 13 despre turism “implementarea proiectului <<Consolidarea şi amenajarea Cazinoului Balnear>>, cu termen de finali-zare 2011.

2003, the Vatra Dornei Casino caught again the attention of the Ministry of Tourism, with a program aimed at turning the casinos and health resorts into an important part of the touristic circuits in the country. The Ministry had as a plan a package of 14 special programs aimed at making Romania a part of the Euro-pean and World touristic circuit. The problem is that the Ministry had never allocated the necessary funds for the restoration of the ca-sino. Short time after, the building returned to the Archdiocese of Suceava and Radauti.

Still looking for investors Even though at one time rumor had it that

Gigi Becali, the financer of Steaua football club, held an interest in buying the Vatra Dor-nei casino and the land, this never came to an end. However, the authorities had another chance for hope, as a new offer came from a group of investors of Arab origin, who made public their intention of buying the historic

casino. These wanted to restore the building and to build a 5 stars ho-tel and a restaurant. Inside the building, the investors wanted to build a cinema, commercial places and of course, a new casino. All these for 1.5 million Euros. This offer disappeared into nothingness as well. The fact is that, the action plan on 2009, with all the objectives stated in the governmental programme of the Suceava City Hall holds an entire chapter (13) about tourism “the implementation of the project called <<Restoration and consolidation of the Resort Casino>>”, with a dea-dline in 2011.

World Poker Tour (WPT) a ajuns în premieră în perioada 27 Martie - 2 Aprilie la București, fiind primul eveniment de mare clasă al pokerului internaţional desfășurat vreodată în România. După cinci zile de poker de cea mai bună calitate, la care au participat peste 160 de jucători, turneul WPT București s-a în-cheiat cu victoria francezului Guillaume Darcourt, jucător profe-sionist de 3 ani care a câștigat pe langă braţara WPT de campi-on și suma de 125.846 euro, plus un loc de 25.000 de dolari la WPT World Championship Bellagio. WPT București a debutat cu un turneu secundar la care au participat 132 de jucători de po-ker, la finele zilei rămânând în turneu 25 de jucători.

Main Event – 28 martieÎn prima zi oficială a turneului, Main Event Day 1A, s-au prezentat la

startul întrecerii 75 de jucători ce s-au luptat pentru câștigarea unui pot de 212.000 euro. La finalul zilei au rămas în turneu 35 de jucători. Chip-leader a fost Joe Ebanks cu un număr de 82.925 fise, urmat de Lubo Bajic cu 71.175 fise și Cristian Dumitrescu - 70.900 fise. Impre-sarul Giovani Becali a fost eliminat din competiţie, dar nu în urma unei mâini de poker, ci pentru că a pro-vocat un scandal in timpul turneu-lui.

prezentat 88 de jucători care s-au luptat pentru câștigarea unui pot de 256.000 euro, printre care Alain Medeșan, Mihai Manole, Toni Judeţ sau Jose Carlos Mor-tensen. Chip – lea-der a fost declarat Launais Bruno cu 72.300 fise, urmat îndeaproa-pe de Dany Parlafes cu 66.875 fise și Bichon Thomas Jeremie - 61.400 fise.

turneului, au mai rămas în întrece-re 6 jucători ce au și intrat în ma-re confruntare. La finalul acestei zile de concurs Munz Simon Phi-lipp a preluat poziţia de chip-lea-der cu 775.000 de fise, triplându-și aproape „zestrea” de fise după ziua anterioară.

El a făcut rocada cu Darcourt Guillaume ce deţinea 614.000, pe ultima treaptă a podiumului aflându-se jucătorul de poker, Jose Migu-el de Laguardia cu 410.000 de fise.

Final table – 2 aprilieDupă patru zile oficiale de poker de cea mai bună calitate, turneul

s-a încheiat cu victoria francezului Guillaume Darcourt care a pus mâ-na pe marele premiu de 125.846 euro. Din păcate, primii doi eliminaţi ai zilei au fost cei doi români Iosif Eva și Atila Abdula pe locurile 6 și 5, recompensaţi cu 23.150 euro, respectiv 30.550 euro. Au urmat Jo-se Miguel De Laguardia și Joe Ebanks, iar titlul WPT București a ră-mas o afacere în doi, între Darcourt și Munz. După o luptă aprigă de 3 ore, francezul s-a impus în heads-up și a câștigat primul său titlu im-portant.

World Poker Tour (WPT) has reached Bucharest for the first time, during 27th of March - 2nd of April, representing the first high class event of international poker that was organized in Ro-mania. After 5 days of highest quality poker, with over 160 parti-cipants, the WPT tournament ended with the victory of Guillau-me Darcourt from France. He has been a professional player for three years and has won, aside the WPT bracelet, the amount of 125.846 Euro, plus a 25.000 dollars spot at the WPT World Championship Bellagio. Main Event - 31st of MarchIn the fourth day of the competi-

tion, the 6 players that made the final confrontation were the only ones left. At the end of this day, Munz Simon Philipp took over as chip-leader with 775.000 chips, almost three times the initial amount he had had that day.

He switched places with Darco-urt Guillaume who had 614.000, the last in line being Jose Miguel de Laguardia, with 410.000 chips.

Final Table - 2st of AprilAfter four official days of best quality poker, the tournament ended

in favor of Guillaume Darcourt who was the winner of the big prize of 125.846 Euro. Unfortunately, the first two persons to be eliminated that day were the two Romanians, Iosif Eva and Atila Abdula, coming sixth and fifth. They however won 23.150 Euro and 30.550 Euro. The next on the winners list were Jose Miguel de Laguardia and Joe Ebanks.The WPT Bucharest title was afterwards like a business with two partners: Darcourt and Munz. After a hard-hearted battle of three hours, the Frenchmen showed what he can do during heads-up and thus won his first important title.

We tried to give a helping hand and de-monstrate that Eastern Europe can organize tournaments at the same standards as Las Vegas; an event organized in a TV studio, to-gether with professionals, just like a show. The presence of players was high, this is what the savvy people claim, as many former WSOP champions were present here and per-formed at their best. This is the reason for which it was very hard to reach the final table.

What I can say about the Romanian players is that they were present and that is it. If I we-re to make a good comparison, they were just like the Romanian football teams, in the Euro-pean football cups.

It is very difficult to organize a tournament of this kind in Romania, because of the legis-lation and the old mentality, including that of the authorities.

Could you tell us your opinion about WPT Bucharest?

Warren Lush spokesman for Gameboo-kers: This was the first and the biggest tour-nament in Romania. We had Regent Casino as partner, who was incredible; everything was possible due to them and their local knowledge. From Gambookers point of view and from WPT point of view, we thank them very much. This big tournament had an incre-dible Romanian presence and some of the bi-ggest poker stars in the world were present. For example, Carlos Mortensen cam here, af-ter he broke down the entire WPT history at the Hollywood Park Casino. On the final table you have a fantastic mix of international and local players. The local players have the smal-lest stacks, but you can also see that of Si-mon Munz, who is a big online player and a very well known one in this community. You can also observe a Frenchman, Darcourt, who is fairly known in his turn, and an American,

Joe Ebanks. As an organizer, you couldn’t ask for more than this; you wouldn’t want an all Romanian final table or an all international final table, so I believe the balance has been great.

Beatrice Lamothe spokesman for WPT: The staff of Regent Casino has been amazing, starting from the dealers to all the other members; they all transformed it into a memorable and successful event. The turnout was great as well, in my perspective, considering the $ 3.300 entry.

Spuneţi-ne părerea dumneavoastră despre WPT București...Warren Lush reprezentant Gamebookers: Acesta a fost primul și

cel mai mare turneu din România. I-am avut pe cei de la Regent Casino drept parteneri, care au fost incredibili; toate au fost posibile datorită lor și know-how-ului din piaţă. Din punct de vedere al celor de la Game-bookers și WPT, trebuie să le mulţumim foarte mult. Acest turneu a avut o impresionantă prezenţă în România și unele dintre cele mai mari sta-ruri din poker au fost aici. Spre exemplu, Carlos Mortensen a venit, cel care a doborât toată istoria WPT la Hollywood Park Casino. La masa finală a fost un mix fantastic de jucători naţionali și internaţionali. Jucă-torii români au cele mai mici stive de jetoane, însă, dacă ne uităm la Si-mon Munz, lucrurile se schimbă; el este un mare jucător online și este foarte cunoscut în această comunitate. De asemenea, ne putem uita la francez, Darcourt, care și el este foarte cunoscut, sau la american, Joe Ebanks. Ca și organizator, nu ţi-ai putea dori mai mult decât atât. Nu ţi-ai dori o masă finală formată numai din români sau numai din străini, așa că echilibrul a fost fantastic.

Judecând din experienţa dumneavoastră, ce imagine au creat jucătorii români?

Warren Lush – Gamebookers: Când am venit aici, știam câteva nume de jucători, precum Mihai Manole sau Cristian Dragomir. Totuși, dacă ar fi să ne uităm la statistici, se poate vedea că jucătorii români încep să aibă o prezenţă și o influenţă din ce în ce mai mare. Eu cred că Mihai este probabil cel mai bun jucător. Dacă vom organiza mai mul-te turnee în România, mai mult ca sigur vor apărea mai mulţi campioni.

Care sunt planurile de viitor privind turneele în România?Beatrice Lamothe – WPT: În cadrul WPT vom organiza un eveni-

ment pe an. Anul viitor vom mări probabil buy-in-ul și ne așteptăm ca și numărul jucătorilor să fie mai mare. Probabil vom avea mai multe runde de calificare la începutul evenimentului, pentru a genera mai mult venit și mai mulţi jucători calificaţi prin Gamebookers și Party Gaming.

Echipa se va păstra?Warren Lush – Gamebookers: Da, echipa va fi formată tot din

WPT, Gamebookers și Regent Casino, pentru că aceasta se dovedește a fi formula câștigătoare.

Beatrice Lamothe – WPT: Sperăm însă că vom schimba data. Fap-tul că Sărbatoarea Paștelui se apropia ne-a dăunat foarte mult.

However, if you study the statistics, you can see that the Romani-an players are catching all over the world and begin to represent an influence. I could argue that Mihai is probably the best player. If we have more big events in Romania, it is possible that more champions are going to stand up.

What are the future plans in Romania regarding the tourna-ments?

Beatrice Lamothe – WPT: With WPT we are going to organize an event per year. Next year we are probably going to increase the buy-in and expect more players to come to the event. We will maybe have more satellites running in the beginning of the main event, in order to generate more turnout and more online qualifiers from Ga-mebookers and Party Gaming.

Is the team going to be the same?Warren Lush – Gamebookers: Yes, the team is going to consist

of WPT, Gamebookers and Regent Casino, because it seems to be the winning formula.

Beatrice Lamothe – WPT: Hopefully we will change the dates. The fact that the Easter was close hurt us a lot.

How does the present look like?We currently have 44 venues all over the country and 470 emplo-

yees. Just like any other Maxbet, we are crossing a stand-by period because of the changes of owners and of the market, all at a „per-fect” time for us. What I mean is that, in 2009 there was a need for a break in which the players of the scene to realize that things were way off reality. What is the effect of the new gaming law for Maxbet?I don’t believe that a company or a person can put a label on a law

that regulates an entire industry and to decide that it is good or bad-this is inappropriate. From my point of view, the law in question is ne-cessary. The previous law did not show the reality of the market, of the business, of the actors on the gaming scene. The new one drasti-cally changed the classification of each business: casinos, slot room, sports bets, which was indeed necessary. Moreover, except for the conditions regarding taxes and the maximum number of machines in a game room, it doesn’t have some major issues that can lead to de-bates. More likely, we should be aware of the fact that this new law

If this law had been implemented in 2007 or 2008, I am absolutely convinced that there wouldn’t have been pro or con deba-tes, because the market would have accepted it easier. It is obvious that it came in a moment when the operators were short in profits.

How pervious is the market outside Bucharest for the Maxbet’s offers?

The capital city is the main part of our business, but just as impor-tant for the future of our company, are the places outside it. If we we-re to close them, it would have been a major hit for our company. I don’t want people to believe that we were not affected by the increa-se of the taxes. Outside Bucharest, the crisis is more severe. The de-crease of incomes, the lack of stability of the amount played every day, of the number of clients, is more obvious here, then in Bucha-rest, which many times leads to a black market. The effects of this black market were obvious even from last year fall. We don’t have tangible evidence, but I believe that the ones in charge should inter-fere. We don’t expect others to come and do our work. Illegal compe-tition is something which everyone deals with, but not equally, no matter the number of machines.

How is your life outside Maxbet?Ever since I started to work for Maxbet, I can say that the spare

time for hobbies is scarce. When I do have some free time, I try to rest, to spend it with my family, to watch movies and read, precisely in this order. But I am inclined to think that whoever works in this do-main cannot talk about his/her free time, al least not during this peri-od. Maybe those who own a gamblling business, but for those invol-ved in middle and upper management there is no way, taking into account the dynamic of the market and the challenges.

Spun acest lucru deoarece, în 2007-2008, dinamica pe care o înregistrăm cu toţii urma să producă un dezechilibru pe care îl resimţim şi astăzi. Momentan mizăm pe locaţiile strategic pozitionate şi pe istoricul companiei.

Care e efectul legii jocurilor de noroc intrată în vigoare anul trecut asupra Maxbet?

Nu cred că o persoană sau o companie poate să califice o lege ca-re reglementează o întreagă industrie şi a spune că o lege este bună sau rea e total neadecvat. Din punctul meu de vedere, legea de care vorbim este una necesară. Legea anterioară 2009 era una care nu reflecta realitatea pieţei, a business-ului, a actorilor din industria de gambling. Noua lege a adus schimbări majore din punct de vedere a delimitării fiecărei unităţi de afaceri – cazinouri, săli de sloturi, pariuri sportive o delimitare ce era necesară. Totodată, prin vechea lege nu exista un control deplin a ceea ce se întâmpla pe piaţă. Noua lege, ex-ceptând condiţiile privind taxele şi numărul obligatoriu de aparate din-tr-un spaţiu de joc, nu are subiecte majore care să dea naştere la po-lemici. Poate că ar trebui să fim conştienţi de faptul că această nouă lege, parţial şi criza, nu au dat posibilitatea de a ne izbi de fenomenul cu care s-a confruntat Rusia şi Ucraina, de explozie masivă în rândul jocurilor de noroc şi de necesitatea intervenţiei radicale din partea au-torităţilor prin interzicerea activităţii jocurilor de noroc, păstrând astfel un echilibru. Dacă această lege ar fi apărut în 2007 sau 2008, sunt convins că nu ar fi existat dezbateri pro sau contra, întrucât piaţa ar fi acceptat-o mult mai uşor, dar clar e că ea a venit într-un moment în care operatorii făceau mult prea puţini bani.

Cât de receptivă e piaţa de provincie la ofertele Maxbet?Capitala ocupă o parte bună din afacere, la fel de importante pentru

viitorul companiei fiind şi locaţiile din teritoriu, care, dacă am fi fost nevoiţi să le închidem, ar fi însemnat o lovitură puternică asupra compa-niei noastre. Să nu se creadă că noi nu am fost afectaţi de majorarea taxelor. În afara Bu-cureştiului, criza este percepută într-un mod mult mai acut. Scăderea veniturilor, lipsa de stabilitate a rulajului, a numărului de clienţi es-te mult mai pregnantă aici, incomparabilă cu cea din Capitală, ceea ce, de cele mai multe ori duce la dezvoltarea unei pieţe negre. O pia-ţă neagră a cărei dinamici crescătoare am simtit-o din toamna anului trecut. Nu avem, ce-i drept, dovezi clare, dar cred că organele abili-tate ale statului iau măsuri. Noi, la rândul nos-tru, nu vom aştepta ca alţii să vină să ne facă treaba. Concurenţa ilegală e ceva ce resimtim cu toţii, dar cu care nu ne confruntăm în mod egal, indiferent de câte aparate deţinem.

Important e ca noi, actorii de pe piaţă, să creăm mediul necesar pentru a putea fi perce-puţi ca prestatori de servicii de amuzament şi nu neapărat ca stabilimente de jocuri de no-roc.

Cum e viaţa dumneavoastră în afara Maxbet?

De când mi-am început activitatea în cadrul Maxbet, nu pot să spun că mai am timp de hobby-uri. În puţinul timp liber rămas mă odih-nesc, petrec clipe în familie, vizionez filme şi citesc, fix în această ordine. Dar tind să cred că, cel care lucrează în acest domeniu, cel pu-ţin în această perioadă, nu mai poate vorbi de timp liber. Poate că cei ce deţin o afacere din gambling, da, dar cei implicaţi în managemen-tul mediu şi superior, în niciun caz, având în vedere dinamica afacerii şi provocările pieţei.

Conceptul Aurum este bazat pe alchimie. Procesul de realizare a sălii de slot, situată pe strada George Enescu, în imediata apropiere a pieţei Romană, a început în urmă cu ceva ani. Însă nu s-a vrut a se creea doar un loc plăcut, care arată bine. Tot ce se găsește înăuntru este un simbol real. Inspiraţia a venit dintr-o carte, care a furnizat practic materialele, fiind o carte ilustrată, nu una narată. Simbolul vă-zut de-afară, cercul cu un punct, acela este simbolul aurului. Înăun-tru, fiecare desen descrie procesul de fabricare al aurului. Acesta este de fapt rolul acestui loc, să aibă o poveste a lui, să transmită ceva cli-enţilor, chiar dacă, în momentul în care pășesc înăuntru nu știu ce se dorește a se exprima. Trebuie să o simtă. În plus, fiecare gravură, fie-care piesă e făcută manual.

This is in fact the purpose of this location, to have an expression of its own, to say something to the clients, even though when they walk inside they don’t know anything about what it want to express. Uniforma personalului este la fel de specială, pentru că toate lucrurile transmit un mesaj clienţilor, chiar dacă acesta este primit inconștient. Atmosfera este într-un mod diferit la Aurum. Aici sunt organizate zile speciale cu tematici, ca spre exemplu o zi Hawaiană. Pe timpul iernii, când era foarte frig afară, Aurum a găzduit o asemenea zi, iar în cazino s-a ascultat un post de radio transmis direct din Hawai. Fetele și băieţii au fost îmbrăcaţi conform ocaziei, s-au pregătit cocktailuri “locale” servi-te în ananas sau nuci de cocos etc. Asta a transformat totul în ceva special pentru clienţi și astfel s-a găsit o soluţie pentru entertainment, fără petreceri.

Barmanii sunt foarte buni și servesc băuturi de calitate, chiar dacă în aceste zile se vorbește doar de reducerea costurilor. Oamenii uneori cred că dacă ceva este oferit gratis, este automat de proastă calitate. Asta nu se întamplă aici, deoarece Aurum are mare grijă de clienţii săi.

Ceea ce este cu adevărat important, în afară de transmiterea unui mesaj, unei stări, este să fii într-o continuă schimbare, să îmbunătăţești, să adaptezi, pentru a nu intra în rutină. Pentru a face totul complet, Au-rum are mai mult de 100 de aparate, iar în viitorul apropiat aici vor fi aduse unele noi, de la Atronic, ce au fost prezentate la ultima expoziţie din Londra.

The girls and the boys were specially dressed, Aurum prepared “local” cocktails served in pineapples or coconuts etc. This has turned into something special for all customers and thus found a solution for entertainment, without parties.

The bartenders are very good, serving high quality drinks, even if these days everything is about reducing costs. People sometimes be-lieve that if something is given for free, than it is of poor quality. This doesn’t happen here, as Aurum like to take care of their clients.

What is really important, besides conveying a message and a state of being, is to constantly change, improve, adapt, in order not to enter routine. To make this complete, Aurum have more than 100 slot ma-chines. In the near future, here will be brought new machines from Atronic, which were presented at the latest exhibition in London.

Când aţi debutat în industria de gambling?Cam prin anul 1992, când tatăl meu a fost printre primii care a adus

jocuri de noroc în România, astfel că, practic, de mic copil mă învârt în lumea asta şi pot spune că experienţa mi-am format-o timpuriu, întrucât la 12 ani deja ştiam să fac încasări. Absolvind facultatea de Politehnică cu profil electronic, am început să aprofundez apoi partea tehnică a aparatelor, care, la acel timp, era un domeniu prea puţin exploatat.

Cum au evoluat lucrurile de atunci?Am trecut de la plăcile vechi standard, cu cabinete din pal, care se

realizau în 20 de minute, la aparate cu format pe PC, ceea ce avem şi noi azi, aici la Videobet, cu o grafică incomparabilă cu acele vremuri. Su-portul tehnic pe care îl au în momentul de faţă aceste aparate este neli-mitat în ideea de a avea posibilitatea de a-l upgrada la un nivel ridicat, dar totul e făcut în aşa fel încât cabinetul să fie acelaşi.

Ce te-a atras practic la acest domeniu?Contactul meu cu această zonă a fost pentru mine extrem de brusc

având în vedere ca pe-atunci nu se ştia mai nimic despre performanta unui astfel de business. M-a atras pur şi simplu, industria este una foar-te interesantă din multe puncte de vedere. E un domeniu în care o dată intrat, cu greu te mai poţi lăsa plecat. E antrenant! Am crescut în lumea aceasta, aici mă simt cel mai în siguranţă şi cel mai confortabil. Experi-enţa căpătată de-a lungul timpului îşi spune cuvântul.

When did you start your path on the gambling industry?I believe that around 1992, when my father was among the first

ones who brought gambling machines in Romania, so I have been in this world since childhood. I can really say that I became experienced at an early age, as at twelve years old, I had already known how to ca-sh in the money. I graduated Politechinques with an electronic major and then I started to learn more about the technical part of the machi-nes, which was a rather unexploited area at that time.

How did things evolve?We started with old standard boards, inside wooden cabins, which

were built within 20 minutes and went to PC format machines that are

still today at Videobet and which have by far, better graphics compared to those times. The present technical support is unlimited, as one has the possibility to upgrade it at a very high level; however, the cabins remained the same.

What was the attraction that pulled you towards this field?My contact with this area was extremely sudden for me, taking into

account the fact that no one knew anything about the potential of su-ch a business in those times. It simply attracted me it is a very interes-ting industry, from many points of view. It is a field in which once you enter, you can never walk out of it. It is really dynamic! I grew up in this world, I feel safe and comfortable here. The experience gathered du-ring time is very important.

How does the story with Videobet start?Once Videobet appeared on the Romanian market, three years ago,

I was the first person employed. I passed through every stage: techni-cian, accountant... When things started to be more certain and Video-bet increased the number of machines from 100 to 700, as the de-mand was constantly increasing, I managed to be promoted, as the company’s officials were confident in my experience. That is how I got to be today the General Manager, even though I am in charge with the technical part as well. The problems that appear in technology must be solved quickly. Taking into account the new law of gambling, we can-not afford to lose more than one or two days with an inactive machine, as the license taxes are really high.

What is the strong point of Videobet on the local market?Our strong point is the interactive graphics and the technique of the

machine. Videobet realizes a genuine copy of the movies in its games. Contractually speaking, the demand for machines is fairly high, amoun-ting around 70 - 80 machines per month. Soon, we are going to laun-ch a project on a national server, which is to contain more than 500 interconnected machines, on three levels, with substantial prizes. Mo-reover, the product will have a card-reader, which gives the client the possibility to charge the credit he wants to play, directly from the ca-shier point.

After all these technical details, how does a casual day look like, outside Videobet?

Every time I have the opportunity, I like to travel, whether inside the country or abroad, in older or newer places. I also like to swim; actually I like any type of water sports, and I practice them together with my friends.

Problemele care apar pe partea tehnică trebuie rezolvate rapid. Astfel că, punând la socoteală şi noua lege ce vizează jocurile de noroc, nu ne permitem să pierdem mai mult de o zi sau două în care vreun aparat să fie inactiv, taxele de licenţiere fiind foarte ridicate.

Oridecate ori am ocazia călătoresc fie în ţară, fie în străinatate, în lo-curi mai vechi sau mai noi. De asemenea, îmi place să înot, de fapt îmi plac în general sporturile acvatice pe care le practic alături de prieteni.

Acest avion tip business are patru scaune pen-tru pasageri în cabina din pupa și două în cea de pilotaj. La fel ca alte avioane ușoare, modele (VLJ), Mustang are aprobare pentru a fi pilotat de o singură persoană. Mustangul Cita-tion are același pachet de avionică , Garmin G1000, ce are un singur motor, la fel ca majorita-tea aeronavelor Cessna. Un nivel ridicat de per-formanţă se poate obţine acum într-un avion cu reacţie, care costă cu câteva milioane mai puţin. Confortul și siguranţa sunt alte două cuvinte ce descriu pe deplin Citation Mustang.

ExteriorUn echlibru ideal între performanţă, design și eficienţă, acest aparat

de zbor, după ce parcurge la decolare doar 948 m, urcă rapid până la 12497 m și poate zbura 1150 mile nautice (2,130 km). Trenul principal de aterizare este dotat cu un sistem avansat de reducere a șocului la aterizare și frâne anti-derapaj, ce sunt acţionate de un sistem hidraulic care este dublat de un sistem de rezervă pneumatic. Spaţiul mare de depozitare, panoul de control avansat al motorului și designul aerodina-mic inovator, toate transformă acest avion într-o alegere inteligentă pentru aviatorii ce visează la avioanele tip jet. Spaţiul de depozitare mă-soară 1,61 metri cubi. Jivrajul nu este o problemă pentru Mustang, din cauza pernei pneumatice de pe marginea conductoare a aripii. Distan-ţele scurte pe care poate ateriza Citation Mustang și vitezele mici cu care se apropie de sol, măresc siguranţa la aterizare, mai ales la ateriza-rea pe aeroporturile cu piste de aterizare scurte.

cy, this aircraft take off from just 3,110 feet (948 m) of runway, climb swiftly to 41,000 feet (12,497 m) and fly 1,150 nautical miles (2,130 km). The main landing gear offers superior shock absorption on lan-ding, also the anti-skid brakes which are powered by hydraulic system with an emergency pneumatic back-up system. The large storage area, the advanced engine controls and the sleek aerodynamic de-sign, make from the airplane a smart choice for the jet-aspiring avia-tors. The storage area measures 57 cubic feet (1.61 m3). The icing conditions are not a problem for the Mustang, because of the pneu-matic boots on the leading edge of the wing. The Citation Mustang’s short landing distances and slow approach speeds increase landing safety, especially when utilizing airports with minimal runways.

How did you enter the poker world?The story is quite long and not that simple. In 1990, when I was 14

years old, I had to leave Romania together with my family. We were headed to Germany. I couldn’t adapt to the system, I was always “mo-urning” for what we had left behind. Once we reached Germany, after I graduated from high school, I started my own business as I had to work. First it was a transport company, and then an “internet sport café” bar with many TV monitors that broadcasted news and sports information. This was around 2004-2006.

Poker was “really in” in Germany at that time and most of the news editions had data about this game. The clients started to play poker and convinced me into it, but I was an amateur. I didn’t see any chan-ce for this game, but I am an ambitious and competitive guy so I star-ted to read more and know more about poker. In time, I realized that poker is not a game of luck, but a strategy one, as it is based on ma-thematics, which I was always good at. I gradually started to learn more about poker and I began to run out of competitors in my bar. I had almost lost all my clients for this reason. I thus started to go the nearby casinos. In July 2006 I decided to participate for the first time in a poker championship in Wiesbaden, where the entire elite of Ger-man poker was present. I came in third. After a while, a friend propo-sed to start a business of organizing tournaments in Germany. I ac-cepted on the spot and we organized tournaments that had even up to 600 contestants and a $ 20- $ 50 buy-in. At the end of 2006, ha-ving some problems with my partner, I decided to get out of the busi-ness and I also closed the bar. I focused on playing poker. I came back to Romania, to Bucharest, where I settled and I started to play poker more seriously. I improved my skills during online poker tour-naments, where, even though the pots were smaller, they were more certain. In a tournament, it is important for me to play in order to win and not to go higher for money.

Which were the most important live tournaments that you participated in?

I have to admit that I participated in few live important tourna-ments, but transformed me into a more experienced player. I was in European Poker Tour in Budapest (2009), in Asian Poker Tour in Macau (2009), Paddy Power Poker Irish Open (2009), World Series of Poker (2009) in Las Vegas and European Poker Tour Snowfest (2010) where I had the best performance of my life, fourth place out 546 participants.

Cum ai intrat în lumea asta a pokerului?Povestea e ceva mai lungă şi nu chiar atât de simplă. În 1990, când

aveam 14 ani, am fost nevoit alături de familie să părăsesc România, ajungând în Germania. Nu m-am putut adapta sistemului de-acolo, tân-jind mereu după tot ceea ce am lăsat aici. Odată ajuns în Germania, du-pă ce am terminat liceul, pentru că aveam nevoie să lucrez, am început o afacere, mai întâi o firmă de transporturi, apoi un bar tip «internet sport cafe» cu mai multe monitoare tv pe care se derulau ştiri şi infor-maţii sportive. Asta se întâmpla prin 2004-2006.

În Germania poker-ul era în mare vogă pe atunci, astfel că timp de 6-7 ore majoritatea ştirilor difuzate despre sport conţineau date despre acest joc de cărţi. Clienţii au început să joace poker, apoi m-au atras şi pe mine, dar jucam la nivel de amator. Nu vedeam vreo şansă în acest joc, dar fiind ambiţios şi având simţul ăsta de competiţie, am început să mă informez şi să aprofundez pokerul. Cu timpul mi-am dat seama că pokerul nu este un joc de noroc, ci unul de strategie, având la bază ma-tematica, disciplină la care am avut mereu calificative bune încă din şcoala generală. Treptat am reuşit să învăţ tot mai multe despre poker, astfel că începusem deja să nu mai am niciun adversar la mine în bar. Aproape că din acest motiv nu mai aveam clienţi în local! După care am început să frecventez cazinourile din apropiere. În iulie 2006 am decis să merg pentru prima oară la un campionat de poker, în Wiesbaden, unde participa toată elita pokerului german, ocupând locul trei. După ceva timp, un prieten mi-a propus să intrăm într-o afacere cu organiza-rea de turnee în Germania. Am acceptat din start, organizând turnee chiar şi cu 600 de participanţi, cu buy-in pornind de la 20 până la 50 euro. La finele lui 2006, după nişte disensiuni cu partenerul meu, am decis să ies din afacere, am închis şi barul, focusându-mă strict pe po-ker, ca jucător. Practic, în acest moment am făcut cel mai important pas al vieţii mele, devenind jucător de poker, iar toate veniturile mele vin ex-clusiv din poker. M-am întors în România, mai exact în Bucureşti, unde m-am stabilit şi am început să joc poker, perfecţionându-mă la turneele de poker pe online, unde, deşi câştigurile sunt mai mici, ele sunt mai sigure. Într-un turneu, pentru mine este important să joc la victorie, nu să avansez la premiile în bani.

Care au fost cele mai importante turnee live la care ai luat par-te?

Mărturisesc că am participat la foarte puţine turnee live importante, dar de unde am acumulat foarte multă experienţă. Am participat la Eu-ropean Poker Tour din Budapesta (2009), la Asian Poker Tour din Ma-cau (2009), Paddy Power Poker Irish Open (2009), World Series of Poker (2009) în Las Vegas, European Po-ker Tour Snowfest (2010) unde am avut cea mai mare reuşită a vieţii me-le, locul 4 din 546 de participanţi.

Care e strategia ta în jocul de poker la turnee?

Nu obişnuiesc să particip la turnee foarte importante, ci mă orientez du-pă buy-in. Pokerul se bazează pe bankroll. Poker-ul poate fi privit ca o afacere, iar jucătorul este patronul firmei sale. În ceea ce mă priveşte, eu mizez pe capacitatea mea de a ştii foarte bine ce vreau să fac cu banii, de a ştii unde şi în ce să-i investesc, plasând banii pe mai multe mâini. Ştiu ce şanse am într-un turneu. Nu am nevoie să cred în mine mai mult decât e posibil să realizez. Dacă reusesc sa ajung printre ultimii 30% dintre parti-cipantii unui turneu, de aici ma consi-der că sunt printre favoriţi.

Jocul meu depinde de câte fise am în faţă. Joc cu mult mai dezlantuit da-că am mai puţine fise. Dacă am mai multe fise, le impart în mai multe mu-tări. Abordez un stil de joc matematic. La început de turneu, jocul meu este


What is you game strategy in tourna-ments?

I don’t usually attend very important tour-naments, I rather make my choice taking into consideration the buy-in. Poker is ba-sed on the bankroll. It can be regarded as a business in which the player owns the com-pany. In what concerns me, I bet on my ca-pacity to know exactly what I want to do with the money, where I want to invest it, betting on several hands. I know my chan-ces in a tournament. I don’t need to believe in myself more than I can accomplish. If I manage to reach the first 30% of the tour-nament, I consider myself to be one of the favorites.

My game depends upon the number of chips. If I have many, I divide them for a hi-gher number of moves. I have a mathemati-cal game style. At the beginning of a tour-nament, my game is really tight and I prefer to make the final decision, to control the game, like in EPT Snowfest. Moreover, I ac-cept bluff; I am not ashamed to be bluffed. In the end, this is part of poker.

After the first days of WPT Romania, how do you see everything?

I am happy to have been present to such an important tournament for Romania. This

would have been impossible one year ago. It is a huge step for the future of Romanian poker and all the players realized the opportuniti-es of the local casinos. No casino in Europe offers what our national ones do, above average trained dealers, impeccable organization. So-me foreign organizers see the hosting of such a tournament strictly as a business and not as a sports event. Here, at WPT, I wouldn’t ha-ve played if I were to pay the entire buy-in. I qualified within a satelli-te, that is why it was easy for me to play.

If you make the adding, how much money did you win from poker?

My online winnings amount around 300.000 Dollars in four years of professional poker play. But I have also won some money with my partners, those who had faith in me. The live winnings amount 80.000 Euro.

What attracts you the most in poker?Only the competition. I don’t play poker for fun, but because I need

to. I decided to play as to earn a living, not to get rich. I am aware that the trips to Las Vegas were wrong, but I wanted to give it a try. The moment I sit down at the poker table and I start the game, it is like a day at work for me.

Este un pas enorm pentru viitorul pokerului românesc şi cu acest prilej toţi jucă-torii şi-au putut da seama de posibilităţiile cazinourilor de aici. Niciun cazinou din Europa nu oferă ceea ce oferă cele din România, dealerii au pregătire peste medie, organizarea e impecabilă. Unii organizatori externi văd organizarea unui astfel de turneu strict ca pe o afacere şi nu ca pe un eveniment sportiv. Aici, la main event WPT nu aş fi jucat dacă trebuia să plătesc tot buy-in-ul. M-am calificat dintr-un satelit şi de aceea mi-a şi fost simplu să joc.

Trăgând linie, câţi bani ai câştigat din poker până acum?Strict partea mea, câştigul de pe on-line este de aproximativ

300.000 de dolari în patru ani de când m-am apucat să joc poker în mod profesionist. Dar am câşti-gat mai mulţi bani alături de parteneri, alături de cei care au pariat pe mine. Iar câştigurile din jocurile live se ridică la 80.000 euro.

Ce te atrage la jocul de poker?

Doar competiţia pentru că eu nu joc poker de plăcere, ci de nevoie. Am decis să joc poker ca să trăiesc din el, nu să mă îmbogăţesc. Sunt conştient că plecările în Las Vegas au fost greşite, dar am dorit să încerc. În momentul în care mă aşez la masa de poker şi încep să joc, pentru mine începe o zi de ser-viciu.

(Targoviste) – especially as a live tournament player; Dan Morariu (Onesti), both online and live and whom I consider to be the most calculated player; Toni Judeţ (Bucharest) – a senzational player in my opinion; Cristian Dragomir (Bucharest) – who is in the top Romanian players judging by his experience; Cristian Tardea (Bucharest) – he is a good player whether we are talking about live or online cash poker; Liviu Ignat (Buzau) – the best player in cash-online; Andrei Bucica (Ploiesti) – a very good player in live cash.

Internationally I cannot mention them one by one, because there are many players who are extremely gifted, whether we are talking about those in the north, about Americans of Germans.

Besides the already famous players, do you believe that others can catch up?

Yes, there are many players in Romania with high potential. I can mention some I already know, like Andrei One (Zalau)- who is for su-re the best young player in Romania, with live winnings that amount over 100.000 Euro and more than 300.000 Dollars online. Also Adri-an Marin (Constanta), Teodor Caraba (Timisoara), Dan Semenescu (Cluj-Napoca), Dan Hila (Alba-Iulia), Dany Parlafes (Bucharest), Bogdan Avram and Calin Ciolte (Baia Mare). Când a fost prima interacţiune cu industria de gambling?Imediat în 1992, după ce am absolvit Institutul Politehnic din Timi-

şoara la secţia “Roboţi industriali şi periferice de calculator”, m-am an-gajat la o firmă creată, ca să zic aşa, de unchiul meu alături de un parte-ner austriac pe care l-a cunoscut în urma unei întâlniri de afaceri avută în Ungaria şi care venise cu o propunere ce viza jocurile de noroc. Initial s-au adus în ţară 14 aparate, noi fiind puţin cam sceptici în privinţa unei astfel de afaceri pentru că era ceva nou pentru acele vremuri. Deja, pâ-nă pe la finele lui 1994, am reuşit să răspândim în ţară aproximativ 250 de jocuri, jocuri fabricate chiar de el în Austria, într-un atelier propriu. Parte din componente erau importate din Taiwan, iar plăcile de bază, din Austria. În anul următor, am hotărât să-mi creez propria firmă alături de Sorin Constantinescu şi o rudă de-a sa, pe care am numit-o Primex, ocupându-ne mai puţin de exploatarea jocurilor, întrucât activitatea prin-cipală era producţia.

Şi, în momentul de faţă, cu ce se ocupă noua companie pe ca-re o prezidaţi, DGL Pro?

DGL Pro are aproximativ 10 angajaţi şi se ocupă doar cu producţia de maşini electronice cu câştiguri, fiind una dintre puţinele companii din ţară care şi-a dezvoltat propriile platforme de jocuri. Majoritatea acesto-ra sunt multigame-uri, urmând trendul pieţei, dar producem şi one-ga-me-uri. Înainte de a fi pusă în aplicare legea privind jocurile de noroc, reuşeam să vindem în medie 40 de aparate pe lună, însă, după aceea, vânzările s-au diminuat destul de semnificativ. Punem la dispoziţia clien-ţilor o gamă diversificată de aparate care pot fi cumpărate fie integral, fie pe componente.

When was your first contact with the gambling industry?Right in 1992, after graduating the Polytechnic Institute of Timi-

soara, in the section „industrial robots and computer peripherals”. I got hired in a company created by my uncle together with an Austri-an partner whom he had met in a meeting in Hungary and who had, at that time, a business proposition concerning gambling. They had initially brought 14 machines to the country, as we were rather skep-tical regarding such a business during those times. Around the end of 1994, we managed to spread around the country about 250 ga-mes, which were manufactured by the other partner himself in Aus-tria, in his own shop. Part of the components was imported from Tai-wan, and the hard drives from Austria. In the following year, I decided to create my own company with Sorin Constantinescu and one of his relatives, company which was named Primex. This took less time for game exploiting as the main activity was the production.

What about now? What does DGL Pro do?DGL Pro has around 10 employees and deals only with production

activities of electronic machines with gains, being one of the few companies in the country that developed its own game platform. Most of them are multigamers, as this is the trend on the market, but we also produce onegamers. Before this new law of gambling was applied, our sale amounted, on average, 40 machines every month, but afterwards, the sales decreased significantly. We place at the dis-posal of our clients a diversified range of machines that can be either bought entirely or in separate parts.

Cum apreciaţi că s-a dez-voltat piaţa de gambling, în general, după aplicarea noilor condiţii legislative? Ce esti-mări aveţi pentru anul în curs?

În momentul în care a fost adoptată legea jocurilor de noroc, erau aproximativ 68.000 de jo-curi licenţiate, iar, în prezent, au mai rămas circa 27.800, reduce-rea fiind una drastică. În aceste condiţii şi segmentul de produc-ţie a suferit modificări, ajungân-du-se chiar la stopare şi nouă nu ne-a mai rămas decât să te ori-entăm pe partea de up-grade-uri/plăci de bază, o nişă care încă e activă. În acest fel, clientul îşi păstrează jocul cu licenţa, iar noi venim şi îi oferim versiuni de up-grade împreună cu service-ul aferent. Momentan, avem în pro-be un nou soft de multigame pe care l-am numit Club Master II.

Pentru anul în curs, ne axăm pe stabilizarea afacerii, astfel că, deocamdată, nu se mai poate vorbi de dezvoltare, cel puţin nu în România. Taxele de licenţă au crescut de aproape 5 ori, iar în-casările au scăzut cu circa 50 la sută. Momentul în care s-a adop-tat această lege a fost unul total nefavorabil.

Toată producţia de maşini o văd prin prisma operatorilor, în-trucât ei reprezintă utilizatorul final. Tot ceea ce îi afectează pe ei, mă afectează implicit şi pe mi-ne. Era mult mai bine dacă re-stricţiile acestei legi se aplicau gradual, majorând, pentru înce-put, doar taxele. Pe acest fond, din păcate, a apărut fenomenul pieţei negre care generează con-curenţa neloială şi, totodată, bani mai puţini la bugetul de stat.

Care sunt perspectivele pentru 2011?

Vom continua activităţile de service şi cele de up-grade, pre-cum şi dezvoltarea de noi progra-me de soft. De asemenea, încer-căm să ne extindem şi pe pieţele externe, dar nu în Europa, întru-cât aici piaţa e deja suprasatura-tă, aşa că ne orientăm către America de Sud.

În timpul liber, ce hobby-uri reuşiţi să vă satisfaceţi?

Hobby-ul meu principal e ceea ce fac, adică tot electronică. Adi-acent, îmi place să mai fac scu-fundări, dar am prea puţin timp liber şi, în rest, îmi place să călă-toresc, dacă se poate, cât mai departe.

What is your opinion regar-ding the development of the gambling market, taking into account these new legislative conditions? What are your estimations for this year?

When the gambling law was adopted, there were about 68.000 licensed games, where-as now there are around 27.800, a drastic decrease. In these conditions, the production segment suffered some modifi-cations and even a pause. Thus, we had no choice but to focus on upgrade/hard drives, a niche which is still active. In this way, the client keeps his licensed ga-me and we come to offer upgra-ded versions together with the related maintenance. For now, we have a new multigame in testing, that we call Club Master II.

For the current year, we focus on making this business safe, so for the moment we don’t talk about expanding, at least not in Romania. The license taxes ha-ve increased almost 5 times and the cashing-ins decreased by about 50%. The moment of ad-option of this law is completely unfavorable.

I can see the entire machines production through the eyes of the operators, as they are the end producers. Everything that affects them, affects me as well. It would have been better if the restrictions of this law had been applied gradually, starting with the increase of the taxes. Under these circumstances, unfortuna-tely, a black market emerges, which generates unfair competi-tion and less money for the sta-te budget.

What are the prospects for 2011?

We will continue with our acti-vities of maintenance and up-grade, as well as new soft deve-lopment. Moreover, we try to expand ourselves on external markets, but not in Europe, as the market is over saturated; so we turn our interest to South America.

What hobbies do you ma-nage to fill your free time wi-th?

My main hobby is my daily ac-tivity, so electronics. I also like to dive, but I have little time to spa-re. I like to travel as well, as far away as possible.

Atragerea turiştilor în cazinouri şi hoteluri. Prin această metodă a fost salvată în urmă cu 60 de ani Riviera franceză, distrusă de criza economică. “The Boss”, cum era supranumit prinţul Rainier al III-lea de Monaco, a mizat pe strălucirea locaţiei pentru a atrage astfel turiştii. În ciuda potenţialului de care dispune, România nu se poate mândri, însă, cu asemenea măsuri de ieşire din criză.Dezvoltarea turismului local de gambling este probabil o himeră pentru mulţi dintre politicieni. Dacă pentru unele state această latură a turismului este un

mare generator de profit, la noi nu există niciun plan în acest sens. “În acest moment nu avem o strategie de dezvoltare a acestui produs. Este binecunoscut modelul altor destinaţii turistice care au mizat pe această latură a turismului de incoming. Cunosc bine beneficiile pe care turismul de gambling le aduce în Vegas, şi care a dezvoltat o industrie uriaşă axată pe jocuri de noroc. Pe o scară de la 0 la 10 cred că turismul de gambling din România se situează între 0 şi 1”, a declarat pentru “Casino Inside” Corina Martin, preşedintele Asociaţiei Naţionale a Agenţiilor de Turism (ANAT).

Attracting the tourists in hotels and casinos- this is the method which saved the French Riviera 60 years ago, after the destruction done by the economic crisis. Prince Rainier of Monaco the third, who was also called „The Boss”, put his hope in the glamour of the venue in order to attract tourists. Despite its potential, Romania cannot take pride in such saving solutions.The development of the local gambling tourism is probably a mirage for many of the politicians. Even if for some of the world states, this side of tourism is a huge income generator, our country

doesn’t have any plan in this direction. „We don’t have any development plan for this product. The model of other touristic destinations that put their money in this type of tourism is very well known. I am deeply aware of the advantages of the gambling tourism in Vegas, which enhanced a large industry based on gambling. On a scale from 1 to 10, I believe that gambling tourism in Romania is somewhere between 0 and 1”- this is what Corina Martin, the president of the National Association of Tourism Agencies (ANAT) declared for „Casino Inside”.


Our country neighbors in the south are again one step ahead of us. After the legalization of online gambling in 2008, the Bulgarian gover-nment wants to take advantage of the gaming websites, to create a virtual touristic campaign. In this way, the foreign internauts who play in the online Bulgarian casinos are to be attracted and come visit Bul-garia. Even if the Bulgarians found another niche to exploit tourism, according to Cornelia Martin, we don’t even advertise this product. „Very few tourists choose Romania for gambling tourism and this is because we don’t have proper promotion and advertising channels for this segment. I haven’t seen any brochures, catalogues or offer for the area”, explained Martin.

The president of ANAT claims that some Israeli tour-operators cho-se to change their destination from Bulgaria for the Romanian seaside, due to some modern casinos. However, there is only one unit currently left open in Constanta. Martin says that the legislation is unfavorable for the development of the casinos. This together with the poor attrac-tion of tourism is one of the major faults of the lack of local gambling tourism growth.

During summer time, casino business decrease by 50%. However, the higher the temperature rises, the more clients go to the seaside or mountain located casinos. Therefore, the representatives of the gambling industry in Romania claim that the implementation of taxes

taking into account the season and the activity of the casinos is much more appropriate.

ANAT and the Associations for promotion and development of the regional tourism say that they intend to lobby in favor of a change in legislation, in order to make public the advantages that casinos could bring to Romanian tourism. Despite all these measures, our country faces the same obstacles as Russia, during the expansion of this unexploited side of tourism. The lack of a proper infrastructure and of a gambling tourism tradition will keep the tourists away from Romania for a long time. „I am convinced that the present administration of the resort Ministry understands the benefits; the last thing to do is to lobby in order to make the Ministry of Finances aware”, declared Martin.

The expansion of the gambling tourism came to be a winning bet for all the states that put their mo-ney on this segment. The incomes, workplaces and the number of visitors recorded constant growth due to the gambling tourism. Only time will show if Romania can also take pride in person who can re-alize the importance of the 15 casinos and rescue it from this crisis.

Astfel, spun ei, internauţii de alte naţio-nalităţi, jucători în cazinourile bulgăreşti online, vor fi atraşi să viziteze Bulgaria. Dacă ei au gă-sit o altă nişă pe care să o exploateze pentru dezvoltarea turismului, potrivit Corinei Martin, noi nu facem cunoscut acest produs. „Foarte puţini turişti aleg România pentru turism de gambling şi asta pentru că nu ne-am definit ca-nale de promovare şi de publicitate pe acest segment. Nici nu am văzut broşuri, cataloage sau oferte în acest sens”, a explicat Martin.

Preşedintele ANAT susţine că unii tour-ope-ratori israelieni au optat pentru deplasarea charterelor lor de vară de pe Bulgaria către lito-ralul românesc, iar o condiţie a negocierii a fost existenţa unor cazinouri moderne în zonă. Acum însă, la Constanţa a mai rămas deschisă doar o unitate. Martin spune că legislaţia, deloc favorabilă dezvoltării de cazinouri, corelată cu atragerea de turişti pentru jocuri de noroc, con-stituie unul dintre principalele impedimente pentru dezvoltarea turismului local de gambling.

În timpul verii afacerile cazinourilor din Bucureşti scad cu peste 50%. Însă, cu cât urcă mai mult mercurul în termometre, cu atât se înmulţesc clienţii în cazinourile de pe litoral sau de la munte. Astfel, reprezentanţii industriei jocurilor de noroc din România susţin că aplicarea taxelor în funcţie de sezon şi de activitatea cazinourilor ar fi mult mai indicată.

Caribbean Stud Poker este o variantă populară a jocului de poker, ce are reguli similare cu Five Card Stud Poker. Principa-la diferenţă între Caribbean Stud Poker și alte versiuni este că, în loc să joci împotri-va altor jucători, joci împotriva casei. Din moment ce se joacă cu dealerul, nu se blu-fează și se lasă mai mult loc norocului de-cât talentului.

Caribbean poker este un joc de poker cu jackpoturi progresive. Scopul jocului este să ai cea mai mare mână. Caribbean Poker se joacă cu 3 până la 5 jucători la masă şi un singur pa-chet de cărţi. Fiecare jucător primeşte o mână de 5 cărţi, având două ocazii de a paria. Desig-nul jocului este similar cu cel de poker standard cu 5 cărţi. Adoptarea jackpoturilor progresive face ca acest joc să fie atât de popular în cazi-nouri. Într-un jackpot progresiv, suma va conti-nua să crească la fiecare mână.

Pentru a porni jocul de Caribbean poker, fie-care jucător trebuie să parieze o sumă numită Ante. Valoarea minimă a Ante-ului este deter-minată de fiecare cazino în parte. Jucătorii tre-buie să parieze şi o sumă pentru jackpotul pro-gresiv, dacă vor să aibă o şansă de a câştiga potul, înainte de a se împărţi cărţile. Asta se face înainte de fiecare mână jucată, pentru a se asigura creşterea continuă a jackpotului. Dealerul va împărţi apoi 5 cărţi fiecărui jucător, toate cu faţa în jos. Dealerul îşi serveşte şi lui 5 cărţi, dintre care una este cu faţa în sus, pentru ca ceilalţi jucători să o vadă. Jucătorii primesc un singur set de cărţi. După ce acestea le-au fost ser-vite, ei pot alege sa nu mai continue (opţiunea Fold) sau să rămână în joc. Dacă rămâne, jucătorul trebuie să dubleze suma Ante-lui. Carib-bean poker continuă condiţionat de mâna dealerului. Dacă dealerul are în mână As, Popă sau o carte mai mare (ca la jocul standard de poker), tura va continua. Dacă mâna dealerului nu îndeplineşte aceste condiţii, fiecare jucător primeşte de două ori suma pariului Ante, iar jackpotul progresiv se împarte în mod egal.

Cum funcţionează pariurile?Jucătorii au la dispozţie două opţiuni în Caribbean poker; să parieze

pe mâna jucată sau pe jackpotul progresiv. Pentru a se considera că un jucător este în joc, el trebuie să plaseze un pariu de început numit Ante. Acesta are o sumă minimă impusă şi se face înainte de împărţirea cărţi-lor. După ce cărţile sunt servite, jucătorii au posibilitatea de a-şi dubla suma anterior pariată - Ante. Ei au de asemenea posibilitatea de a paria pe jackpotul progresiv, însă acest pariu este complet opţional şi nu des-califică un jucător din tura respectivă. Totuşi, pentru a-l putea câştiga, un jucător trebuie să parieze pe acest jackpot.

Caribbean Stud Poker is a popular poker variant with rules that are similar to those of Five Card Stud Poker. The main di-fference between Caribbean Stud Poker and other poker ga-mes is that instead of playing against other players, you are playing against the house. Since Caribbean Stud Poker is a game where you play against the house, there is no bluffing involved, and it is more a game of chance than of skill.

Caribbean poker is a poker game with progressive jackpots. The goal of the game is to have the highest hand. Caribbean poker is pla-yed with three to five players at a table and one deck of cards. Each player is dealt a five card hand, with two chances to bet. The layout of the game is very similar to standard five card poker. The inclusion of a progressive jackpot makes Caribbean poker a popular game at the casino. In a progressive jackpot the amount for the table will con-tinue to rise as each hand is dealt.

To start a hand of Caribbean poker each player must place an An-te bet. The minimum amount of the Ante bet is determined by the ca-sino. Each player must also place a bet towards the progressive jack-pot if they want a chance to win the pot before the cards are dealt. This happens before every hand and ensures the jackpot will conti-nue to rise. The dealer will then deal five cards to each player. Each card is dealt face down. The dealer also deals five cards to himself, with one card being face up for the table to see. Players are only

dealt one set of cards. After their cards are dealt they can choose to fold or remain in the game. If they remain in the game, a player must double their Ante bet. The advancement of Caribbean poker is determined by the dealer’s hand. If the dealer has a hand that is Ace King or higher (based on standard poker hands) the round will continue. The player’s hand must beat the dealer’s hand to win the round. If the dealer’s hand does not qualify, all players re-ceive two times their Ante bet, and have their pro-gressive bet returned on an even-scale.

How does betting work?Players have two betting options in Caribbean

poker; betting on the single hand and betting on the progressive jackpot. In order to be considered in on a hand, the player must place an Ante bet. This bet has a minimum and is placed before any cards are dealt. After the cards are dealt the player has one chance to raise their Ante bet during the round. Pla-yers also have the option of betting on the progres-sive jackpot. This bet is completely optional and do-es not disqualify a player from the round. However, a player must bet on the progressive jackpot for the chance to win it.

Spune-ne câteva cuvinte despre începuturile tale în poker...Am început să mă antrenez acum 6 ani, iar la numai un an de când

am început, am fost admis în echipa 770 de profesionişti. De 1 an şi jumătate sunt liderul echipei, ce are 7 membri. Am avut câteva perfor-manţe în pokerul online şi câteva în cel live, precum în turneul Parto-uche Poker Tour din Franţa, în EPT Dublin sau EPT Deauville, dar asta este cu siguranţă cea mai bună perfomanţă a mea.

Ce ne poţi spune despre această experienţă de la WPT București?

Excluzând faptul că am câştigat turneul şi că va rămâne cu sigurna-ţă una dintre cele mai frumoase amintiri din viaţa mea, nu am decât cuvinte de laudă. Dacă e sa vă fac o scurtă istorie a acestui turneu, am fost foarte aprope să ies la tura a doua, când am rămas cu doar 3.000 de jetoane. Am reuşit cumva să transform aceste jetoane în 7.000, câştigând mâna cu nouari şi aşi. Am fost al 8-lea jucător clasat în prima zi, însă începând cu a doua, m-am clasat tot timpul pe primul loc.

Păreai a avea foarte multă încredere în forţele proprii și ai fost tot timpul cel care conducea jocul la masă...

Da, ştiu că am un stil agre-siv, toţi cei care m-au văzut ju-când au spus asta. Joc multe mâini şi de obicei nu îmi este frică să mă vadă ceilalţi blu-fând, chiar şi la blufurile mai rele. Fac asta pentru că mă ajută mai încolo în joc, pentru că oamenii nu îşi pot da seama dacă mâinile jucate sunt bune sau nu. Poate că unii îl privesc ca pe un stil nebunesc, însă este stilul meu.

Câţi bani ai câștigat până acum din poker?

Cred că am câştigat undeva în jurul sumei de 190.000 do-lari. Dar cu victoria asta, o să am o cifră mai mare, cu sigu-ranţă.

Care este jucătorul prefe-rat de poker?

Am rămas foarte impresio-nat de Gus Hansen, alături de care am jucat în Partouche Po-ker Tour. Mi-a plăcut stilul lui. Nu sunt chiar atât de nebun ca el, însă cred că mă apropii cel mai mult. Ce m-a impresionat cel mai mult a fost că turneul a durat 4 zile, iar în ultima zi se juca masa finală. Am început în jurul orei 2 după-masă şi am terminat undeva la orele 8:30 dimineaţa. După 4 zile de joc intens şi după noaptea asta, acest tip era atât de fresh de parcă tocmai ar fi ieşit de la duş. Noi, toţi ceilalţi, eram foarte obosiţi şi goi, însă el nu. Mi-am spus atunci că asta e diferenţa care face marii campioni.

Ce ne poţi spune despre jucătorii români pe care i-ai întâlnit aici?

Este o întrebare foarte dificilă, pentru că am întalnit mulţi jucători români şi am văzut că mulţi dintre ei au jucat foarte bine, având o stra-tegie constantă. Cu toate acestea, am văzut şi mulţi care nu ştiau exact ce vor să facă. Ultimii jucători rămaşi au fost însă foarte serioşi şi au jucat foarte bine.

Please tell us a few things about you, about your backgro-und...

I started to prepare 6 years ago and 1 year after, I was accepted in the 770 team of Professionals. I’ve been the captain of this team for 1 year and a half, a team which has 7 players. I’ve also had some perfor-mances online and few in live, like in the Partouche Poker Tour in France, in EPT Dublin or EPT Deauville, but this is for sure my best ex-perience yet.

What can you tell us about this experience with WPT in Bu-charest?

Except for the fact that I am the winner and it will be for sure one of the best memories in my life, I can say only nice things. I can tell you a short story about this tournament, where I fell very short in the second level, as I had some terrible hands and I was left with 3.000 chips. I so-mehow managed to bring these 3.000 chips to 7.000 and won that

hand with nine and aces. I was the eighth player in the first day, and starting from the se-cond, I was always the first.

You seem to have a lot of confidence in yourself and you were always the leader of your table...

Yes, I know that I have a ra-ther aggressive style, everyone that saw me playing said that. I play a lot of hands and I am usually not afraid that people are going to see my bluffs, even those which are bad. I do this because it helps, people can never know which hands are played for real and which are not. Some might call it a crazy style, but it is my style.

How much money you ha-ve won from live tourna-ments?

I think I have won somewhe-re around 190.000 Dollars. But with this winning, I’m going to have a better performance.

Who is the poker player that you like the most?

I was really impressed by Gus Hansen with whom I have played in Partouche Poker To-ur. I liked his style. I am not that crazy, but I am closer to his sty-le than any other; what impre-ssed me the most was the to-urnament lasted for 4 days,

and in the last day we had the final table. We started around2 o’clock in the afternoon and we finished at 8.30 in the morning. After 4 inten-sive days and all night, this player was so fresh, it was like he had just got out of the shower. We, the other players, we were all tired and empty, but he was not. I said to myself that this is the difference that makes the great champions.

What can you tell us about the Romanian players that you ha-ve met here, at WPT?

It is a very difficult question, because I have met a lot of Romanian players and I saw many of them who played very good, with a very con-stant strategy. However, I also saw some that seemed not to be sure of their actions. But the last players left were very serious and played re-ally tight.


LOCUL 2 - SIMON MUNZ

Ce ne poţi spune despre începutul de drum în poker?Am început să joc poker în 2006; la început am jucat online, pe jocuri

cu limită de 5 dolari, apoi am jucat cu limită de pot, mergând până la 100-200 dolari, după care m-am învăţat şi cu cel fără limită de pot. Acum joc la Poker Players Online (PPO), iar în ultimii 4 ani am jucat şi la turnee live, pentru a intra şi pe scena aceasta.

Care sunt cele mai importante turnee la care ai participat? Am jucat în jur de 4 sau 5 turnee EPT, WSOP Main Event, care este

probabil şi cel mai important, şi acest WPT, care este un turneu frumos.

Care este impresia pe care ţi-a lăsat-o WPT București?M-am clasat pe locul doi, deci una plăcută. Cred că am jucat foarte

bine şi a fost un turneu frumos pentru mine.

Dacă ar fi să îţi definesti stilul de joc, cum te-ai caracteriza?Cred că lucrul pe care îl fac cel mai bine este să analizez modul în

care joacă ceilalţi şi să mă adaptez. De obicei joc mult mai agresiv, însă acum a trebuit să joc strâns şi să aştept mâinile bune. Este foarte greu când nu eşti tu cel cu stiva mai mare de jetoane. În principiu pot spune că pot juca oricum, pentru că am multă experienţă. Am jucat în jur de 2 milioane de mâini online.

De ce ai ales pokerul?Chiar nu ştiu exact. Înainte jucam Starcraft, dar când am încercat să

joc poker am rămas foarte impresionat şi încă îmi place. Înveţi tot timpul lucruri noi, e ca un joc fără sfârşit. Îmi place competiţia, dar şi banii, de-sigur. Nu cred că voi face asta toată viaţa, însă, pentru moment, îmi pla-ce la nebunie.

Ce ne poţi spune despre ju-cătorii români?

Au fost cîţiva jucători foarte buni, însă majoritatea erau pasivi. Cei mai buni jucători din acest turneu au fost cu siguranţă străi-nii.

Care sunt planurile de vii-tor?

Cred că voi participa la orice turneu la care pot şi voi juca în continuare mult poker online şi live. Voi merge cu siguranţă să joc la Monte Carlo, probabil şi la WSOP şi voi începe să fiu mai activ în WPT. Mi-ar plăcea să joc şi în câteva jocuri live televizate, ca cel de la Party Poker sau cele europene.

What could you tell us about your background as a poker player?

I started to play poker at the end of 2006 and I played online, for $ 5 low limit. I played poker with fixed limit, up to 100-200 Dol-lars, but then I learned No-limit as well. Ri-ght now I play on Poker Players Online (PPO) and for the past 4 years I’ve been playing some live tournaments, in order to get on the live scene.

Which were the most important tour-naments you have participated to?

I’ve played around 4 or 5 EPTs and the WSOP Main Event, which is probably the most important I’ve ever played. This is my first WPT and it is a nice tournament as well.

What is your impression about WPT Bucharest?I was the second winner so it was nice. I think I played really good

and it was a nice tournament for me.

If it were to define you style, how would you describe your-self as a poker player?

I think that what I can do best is to analyze how people play and be able to re-adapt. I usually play more aggressive, but now I had to play really tight and wait for the hands. It is really difficult when you don’t have the big stack. Basically, I can say that I can play any type, as I have a lot of experience. I’ve played online around 2 million hands.

Why did you choose poker?I really don’t know, I used to play Starcraft, but when I tried poker it

was really impressive and I still like it. You always learn new things, it is like a game with no end. I like the competition and, of course, the money. I don’t think I will play it for all my life, but for now, I love it.

What can you tell us about the Romanian players?There were some very good players, but in general, I believe that

they were passive. The better players in this tournament were for su-re the foreigners.

What are your future plans? I think I will participate at every tournament possible and play a lot

of online and live poker. I will definitely play in Monte Carlo, the WSOP probably as well and I will start playing some WPTs. In general I would like to play some live TV cash games, like for example the one from Party Poker or some European TV cash games.

De obicei joc în turnee din toată lumea şi fac asta pe banii mei. Obişnuiam să joc la game-uri cu buy-in de 10.000 sau 15.000 dolari, însă nu am avut cele mai bune rezultate în felul acesta, aşa că m-am decis să joc unde mă pot califica din sateliţi.

Acesta este primul turneu live?Nu, am jucat în numeroase turnee de poker live. Locul pe care m-am

clasat acum nu este cea mai bună performantă a mea; am câştigat do-uă evenimente în valoare de 100.000 dolari.

Care ar fi tipologia de jucător care te-ar descrie cel mai bine?Nu am o strategie exactă, încerc să mă adaptez la masă, să văd cum

joacă fiecare. Spre exemplu, la masa asta, francezul era foarte agresiv aşa că a trebuit să joc foarte strâns. Am fost norocos să îmi dublez su-ma şi să ajung la ultimele trei mâini, însă când joc împotriva unora mai slabi, joc foarte agresiv.

Cum ai caracteriza experienţa de la WPT București?A fost bine, mi-a plăcut hotelul unde am fost cazaţi, personalul a fost

foarte drăguţ, organizarea a fost bună... Totuşi, nu mi-a plăcut pauza de o zi dinaintea mesei finale.

Ce ne poţi spune despre jucătorii români pe care i-ai întâlnit?Unii dintre ei au jucat foarte bine, în special cei de la mesele finale,

unde jocul a fost dur. Am văzut însă şi jucători slabi, care au făcut multe greşeli.

De ce ai ales să joci poker?În principiu pentru că îmi plac banii şi acesta este modul în care îmi

câştig existenţa.

Please tell us a few things about you as a poker player...I play live tournaments all over the world and usually I play on my

own money. I used to play with a buy-in of 10,000 or 15,000 dollars, but didn’t have the best results, so now I only play in what I can get on satellite.

Is this your first live tournament?No, I’ve played in many live tournaments. This is not my best positi-

on yet, I’ve won a couple of side events of about 100,000 Dollars.

What type of poker player description fits you best? I don’t have a specific strategy, I try to adapt to my table, to see

how everyone plays. For example, at this table, the Frenchman was really aggressive so I tried to play really tight. I was lucky to double up and get down to three-handed, but when I play against weaker players, I play really aggressive.

How would you describe your experience with WPT in Bu-charest?

It was good, I liked the hotel we were checked in, the staff was re-ally nice, it was organized well... However, I didn’t like the day off be-fore the final table.

What can you tell us about the Romanian players you have encountered?

Some of them played really good, especially the ones from the fi-nal tables, who were very tough. Though, I saw some who were very weak and made a lot of mistakes.

Why did you choose to play poker?Basically because I like money and this is how I earn my living.

The American empire of gambling started to collapse. Because of the economic crisis, „The City of Lights” closed

its gates for the Romanian employees. Qualified personnel recruitment for casinos has dramatically decreased since

2009. The anguish made the members of the unions to prohibit the employment from outside US borders.

Imperiul american al jocurilor de noroc a intrat în declin. Din cauza crizei economice oraşul luminilor şi-a închis porţile pentru angajaţii români. Recrutările de personal calificat

în cazinouri pentru unităţile din Las Vegas au scăzut dramatic în 2009. Disperarea i-a împins pe membrii sindicatelor să se opună angajărilor din afara Statelor Unite ale Americii.


The negative results reported by the giants of the gambling industry in US, are a good enough justification for the attitude of the employe-es of this field. According to a survey made by Bristol Associates in LA, the HR recruitment company, the development opportunities of the career in this domain have moved to the waiting list of the Ameri-can employers in the casino field. The new definition of the term „de-velopment” is, as they say, keeping their workplace, even at the mana-gement level.

„In 2009, the number of workplaces in USA, available through J1 Work and Travel visa, has drastically diminished. The reason of this de-crease is, according to our sources, the fact the US unions don’t want to accept anymore the massive input of young men during summerti-me, in order to increase the number of worked hours for the other em-ployees”, this was the statement of Constantin Dancu for „Casino Insi-de”, the Program Manager for Zip Travel Romania. Even though in 2007 and 2008, the company had on offer of over 100 available wor-kplaces in the US casinos, the offer of last year was 90% shorter.

The financial argument is the basis for choosing these types of jobs, but the targeted clients of this programs, the students, are also tempted by the idea of a new experience, as well as by the tou-ristic attractions. Thus, they choo-se to work an ocean away, mini-mum 40 hours/week for a wage of 12 dollars an hour, plus tips. Even though the salaries are still at the same level as last year, the placements have substantially de-creased. „In 2009, most of the im-portant casinos we work with, among which we mention Borga-ta, have stopped employing stu-dents through Work and Travel”, said Dancu.

Even if in previous years the jobs received by the youngsters were according to their abilities and language knowledge, in 2010, only the experienced stu-dents managed to get a job in the American casinos. The estimati-ons regarding this segment pro-spective of recruitment are not good at all. Constantin Dancu sta-tes that 10 will be the maximum number of students which are to leave through Work and Travel this year.

From February till March, after the winter period of exams, this is the best period for recruitment.

The cost of the Work and Travel program is of 830 Dollars for the stu-dents.

„Unfortunately, this year, the jobs in casinos are not what they used to be two years ago. We hope that the market will bounce back in 2011-2012”, explained Dancu.

The offers of the most important Romanian players in this market don’t comprise available jobs abroad, for the qualified personnel.

During the current economic conditions, Romanians can kiss the American dream goodbye. The main employers who have available jobs on offer for the qualified persons, are mostly those from the Mi-ddle East. The demands of the employers have, however, increased exponentially. Starting from cashiers and ending with managers, the expectations of the companies increase directly proportional with the occupied position. Thus, the minimum experience for the croupiers is around two years, three years for the slot machines technicians and almost 10 years for the management positions.

The forecasts show that the market of employers will still be the one on top, and not that of the employees, like it was until 2008. This will happen including in the area of qualified casino personnel recruitment.

Rezultatele negative raportate de giganţii industriei de gambling din SUA motivează pe deplin atitudinea angajaţilor din domeniu. Potrivit unui sondaj realizat de compania de recrutare Bristol Associates din Los Angeles oportunităţile de dezvoltare a carierei au dispărut din lista aşteptărilor angajaţilor americani din cazinouri. Noua definiţie a terme-nului „dezvoltare” este, spun ei, păstrarea locului de muncă, chiar şi la nivel managerial.

„În 2009 locurile de muncă în cazinourile din SUA, prin intermediul vizei J1 Work and Travel, au scăzut drastic. Motivul acestui declin este, din informaţiile noastre, faptul că sindicatele din SUA nu vor să mai ac-cepte aducerea masivă de tineri pe perioada verii, pentru ca ei să poa-tă lucra cât mai multe ore”, a declarat, pentru „Casino Inside”, Constan-tin Dancu, directorul de programe al Zip Travel România. Dacă în 2007 şi 2008 compania dispunea de peste 100 de locuri de muncă vacante în cazinourile din SUA, anul trecut oferta a scăzut cu peste 90%.

Motivaţia financiară stă la baza deciziei de aplicare pentru astfel de joburi, însă, clienţii target ai acestui tip de programe, studenţii, sunt tentaţi şi de ideea unei noi experi-enţe, precum şi de posibilitatea vizitării unor atracţii turistice. Ast-fel, ei aleg să lucreze peste Ocean minimum 40 de ore pe săptămână contra unui onorariu de opt dolari până la 12 dolari pe oră, la care se adaugă, uneori, bacşiş. Deşi salariile au rămas, în general, la acelaşi nivel cu cele din anii ante-riori, plasamentele au scăzut sub-stanţial. „În 2009, majoritatea ca-zinourilor mari cu care lucrăm, printre care menţionăm Borgata, din SUA, a renunţat să mai anga-jeze studenţi prin Work and Tra-vel”, a completat Dancu.

Dacă în anii anteriori joburile pe care le prestau tinerii erau în funcţie de aptitudinile lor sau de cunoştinţele de limba engleză, în 2010 doar studenţii cu experienţă în domeniu au reuşit să obţină din nou un loc de muncă în cazinouri-le din SUA. Estimările privind re-crutările pe acest segment nu sunt deloc bune, Constantin Dan-cu susţinând că maxim 10 stu-denţi vor pleca prin programul Work and Travel în 2010.

Perioada februarie – martie, du-pă sesiunea de iarnă, este sezo-nul prielnic pentru recrutare. Cos-tul programului Work and Travel Casino este de 830 de dolari pentru studenţi.

„Din păcate, în acest an, joburile în cazinouri nu mai sunt ce au fost acum doi ani. Sperăm ca piaţa să îşi revină în 2011 – 2012”, a expli-cat Dancu.

Din ofertele principalilor jucători din România, specializaţi pe recru-tarea online, lipsesc cu desăvârşire locuri de muncă vacante în străi-nătate pentru personalul calificat în cazinouri.

În condiţiile economice actuale românii îşi pot lua adio de la visul american. Principalii angajatori, care dispun de locuri de muncă va-cante pentru persoanele cu calificare în domeniul cazinourilor, provin, în majoritatea cazurilor, din Orient. Şi pretenţiile angajatorilor au cres-cut exponenţial. De la casieri până la general manageri, aşteptările companiilor cresc direct proporţional cu poziţia ocupată. Astfel, expe-rienţa solicitată acum pentru crupieri este în medie de doi ani, pentru tehnicienii de slot machines, minimum trei ani vechime, în timp ce pentru posturile de conducere se solicită chiar şi zece ani pe o poziţie similară.

Previziunile arată astfel că şi în 2010 va rămâne în top piaţa anga-jatorilor şi nu cea a angajaţilor, cum s-a întâmplat până în 2008, inclu-siv pe segmentul recrutării de personal calificat în cazinouri.

supra) vine de la modul în care cli-entul plasează pariul. Top Hat se fa-ce în echipă, având un client care stă în faţa mesei, lângă ruletă, dis-trăgându-i atenţia supraveghetoru-lui. Un alt tip joacă cu chipsuri reale, de obicei chiar vis-a-vis de dealer. Mai este și un al treilea tip, la celă-lalt capăt al mesei, care joacă cu chipsuri virtuale. În realitate, acesta are și chipsuri reale, însă ceilalţi nu pot vedea asta, pentru că nu le fo-losește. Cel care stă în faţa deale-rului, care joacă pe bani de fapt, dă impresia că joacă cu multe jetoane, însă el nu are decât vreo 5 sau 6 pe care le tot învârte, strategia lui fiind în realitate, de a minimiza pari-urile făcute.

Cel de lângă ruletă, care e facto-rul perurbator, exact când bila stă să cadă pe numărul câștigător, se întoarce către dea-ler și pune o întrebare de genul “La ce oră începe bu-fetul de seară?” sau “Unde e toaleta?” sau orice tip de întrebare fără conţinut, doar pentru a-i distrage atenţia. Astfel, când bila indică numărul câștigător și acești oameni distrag atenţia dealerilor, cel cu jetoa-nele virtuale pune un jeton real și de valoare mare sub celelalte și le plasează pe numărul câștigător. Dacă este prins, dealerul reţine doar jetoanele virtuale de deasupra, pentru că cele în bani nu pot fi decât ale ju-cătorului care joacă pe bani și care stă în faţa lui. Așa că acesta devine câștigător. Uneori, dealerului îi scapă asta și cel cu jetoane virtuale este plătit la rândul lui. Însă se numește top hat pentru că jetoanele în bani sunt dedesubt, iar deasupra exista o stivă, care arată ca o pălărie.

The name Top Hat comes from the way the custo-mer places the bet. Top hat is done in a team, as you have a customer who is near the front of the table, by the wheel, taking the attention away from the inspec-tor. There is another guy who plays cash chips, on the table, normally opposite the dealer. There is also a third guy, at the bottom of the table, who plays the co-lor chips. What happens is that, the guy at the bottom of the table also has cash chips, but he is not seen by the others, to be using cash chips. The guy opposite the dealer, who plays with cash chips, gives the impre-ssion that he is placing lots of chips, but in fact, he only has around 5 or 6 chips and he keeps moving these chips around the layout, as this strategy minimizes what they are actually betting. The guy by the wheel, who is the “distracter”, just when the ball is about to

drop turns to the dealer and asks a question like “At what time is the midnight buffet?” or “Where’s the toilet?” or any type of abstract questions, just to take their attention away. Thus, when the ball drops on the winning num-ber, while these types of guys distract the atten-tion of the dealer, the guy with the color chips puts a cash chip (high denomination) undernea-th the color chips and places it on the winning number. Now, if he gets caught, only the top hat is removed by the dealer, which is made up of the color chips, because the cash chip(s) the dealer recognizes would normally belong to the guy who plays in front of him. So the guy who plays with cash chips is identified as the big winner. Sometimes, the dealers miss all of them and the guy with the color chips gets paid as well. But it is called a top hat because you have the cash chips underneath and you a have a stack on top, which looks like a top hat.

Este diferit de top hatting pentru cel din ur-mă se face în echipă, pe când past posting se poa-te face de unul singur. Italienii sunt foarte faimoși acum pentru talentele lor în past posting și top hat-ting. Acestea reprezintă, de fapt, un modus operandi pentru ei. Dar ţineţi minte, procedurile sunt întotdeau-na cu un pas înaintea acestor șiretlicuri!

It’s to be noted that the location of the casino must not residenti-al and have not been built for this destination or have subsequently changed their destination through successive modifications.

The spaces in which gambling is performed must fulfil certain mi-nimal requirements, respectively:

a) the spaces where tables are located must be organized in su-ch manner to create a pleasurable surrounding for the partici-pants;b) to be adequately arranged;c) to insure sufficient electric illumination to exploit and monitor activity, located in such a manner not to disturb the participants;d) to have air conditioning, with adequate performance;e) to have safety electrical circuit. Electrical lamps will be atta-ched at the evacuation doors which will be start functioning in the case of a malfunction of the main electric circuit, constituting the meaning of this decision safety lighting electrical circuit. The-se lamps shall be positioned in such a way to insure the protecti-on and evacuation of the players, personnel and goods in certain emergencies. Gambling authorization will not be granted in loca-tions where no safety electrical illumination is available or this does not function appropriately. f) to have their own sanitary installations;g) to be located per the lawful conditions for the prevention and putting out of fires;h) to respect the sanitary-hygienic norms per the stipulations of the law;i) insure appropriate surroundings for activating and fulfil conditi-ons related to public order, per the law;j) to permit the arrangement of adjacent chambers, strictly ne-cessary for activating, respectively the technical chamber, sanita-ry installations for the personnel, bar, wardrobe, rest rooms etc.

Another obligation is represented by the supervision through clo-sed-circuit monitoring and registered in permanent digital system, non-stop of the entire activity in the game rooms, cashier and re-ception. This rule is applicable to all casinos without exception.

Regarding the video recordings, these will be performed for ga-ming tables and days and will be kept in conditions of maximum se-curity at least 30 calendar days, while having to contain the date and time of events in such a manner not to obstruct the visibility if the recording. Incidents or events will be noted in a register kept by the operators of the video surveillance.

In the event of well-founded cases, the police is to be called im-mediately, case in which the recordings will be stored until clarifica-tion of the situation. The police will also be informed on the persons undesirable by the casino, the decision of creating such a list being an internal one and belonging to the organizer.

The placement of the video cameras will be made in such a man-ner to insure reception of clear and useful images of the gaming tables as well as the entire location.

As a result images for gaming tables must be extremely relevant being able to cover the entire table, roulette, the casino chips next to the dealer and float-box, the colour of the chips, their placement and number, the value of the banknotes, as well as the entire ope-rations of credit-fill.

At the cashier, the images must permit to see the hands of the cashier, the colour, number and value of chips and banknotes, while the images of the reception must make visible at least the upper part of the persons entering the casino.

In the case of gambling involving dices, these will be rolled in a cup, urn or by hand.

The dices will be manufactured from bone, plastic material, ebo-nite, ivory, metal or other material accepted internationally, the dice will have perfectly equal sides, with dimensions between 20 mm

REGLEMENTĂRI FISCALE

De reţinut este faptul că spaţiul destinat amplasării cazinourilor nu trebuie să aibă destinaţia de locuinţă, nu au fost construite având această destinaţie, iar, în caz contrar, au pierdut ulterior cali-tatea de locuinţă, prin modificări succesive.

Spaţiile în care se organizează activităţi specifice cazinourilor trebuie să îndeplinească nişte cerinţe minime, şi anume :

a) spaţiile în care sunt amplasate mesele de joc trebuie să fie organizate astfel încât să se creeze o ambianţă plăcută pentru participanţi;b) să fie corespunzător amenajate;c) să fie asigurat iluminat electric suficient de puternic pentru exploatarea şi monitorizarea activităţii, dar astfel montat încât să nu deranjeze participanţii;d) să beneficieze de instalaţie de condiţionare a aerului, cu o putere corespunzătoare dimensiunii acestora;e) să fie prevăzute cu circuit electric de siguranţă. La uşile de evacuare vor fi montate lămpi electrice care să intre în funcţiu-ne în momentul unei avarii la circuitul electric de bază, constitu-ind în accepţiunea prezentei hotărâri circuit electric de ilumina-re de siguranţă. Aceste lămpi vor fi amplasate astfel încât, în situaţii de necesitate, să asigure protejarea şi evacuarea jucăto-rilor, a personalului sălii, precum şi a valorilor. Nu va fi autorizată organizarea activităţii de tip cazinou în spaţii în care nu există circuit electric de iluminare de siguranţă sau acesta nu funcţio-nează în mod corespunzător;f) să fie prevăzute cu grupuri sanitare proprii;g) să fie amplasate şi dotate conform condiţiilor prevăzute de lege pentru prevenirea şi stingerea incendiilor;h) să respecte normele igienico-sanitare în vigoare;i) să asigure condiţii ambientale corespunzătoare unei bune desfăşurări a activităţii şi să nu se aducă atingere liniştii şi ordi-nii publice, conform prevederilor legale în vigoare;j) să permită amenajarea unor încăperi conexe, strict necesare activităţii, respectiv cameră tehnică, grupuri sanitare pentru per-sonal, bar, garderobă, cameră de odihnă pentru personal etc.

O altă obligativitate o reprezintă cea a supravegherii prin circuit închis de tv şi înregistrată în sistem digital permanent, în regim “non-stop” a întregii activităţi din sălile de joc, de la casierie şi de la recepţie. Această regulă se aplică tuturor cazinourilor fără excep-ţie.

În privinţa acestor înregistrări video, ele vor fi realizate pe mese de joc şi pe zile, vor fi păstrate în condiţii de securitate cel puţin 30 de zile calendaristice şi trebuie să cuprindă data şi ora evenimen-telor, astfel încât să nu obstrucţioneze vizibilitatea înregistrării, iar incidentele sau evenimentele se vor consemna într-un registru ţi-nut de operatorii sistemului de supraveghere video.

În eventualitatea în care ar exista cazuri întemeiate, vor fi inştiin-ţate imediat organele de poliţie, caz în care înregistrările vor fi păs-trate până la clarificarea acestor situaţii. Organele de poliţie sunt informate şi în privinţa persoanelor indezirabile cazinoului, decizia întocmirii unei asemenea liste fiind una internă şi aparţinând orga-nizatorului de joc.

Amplasarea camerelor de luat vederi va fi făcută astfel încât să se asigure recepţionarea unor imagini clare şi utile atât la mesele de joc, cât şi în întreaga incintă.

Astfel, la mesele de joc imaginile trebuie să fie extrem de rele-vante cuprinzând întregul caroiaj al mesei, roata ruletei, jetoanele de lângă crupier şi în float-box, culoarea acestor jetoane, amplasa-rea şi numărul lor, valoarea bancnotelor, precum şi derularea în în-tregime a operaţiunilor de creditare-debitare (credit-fill) .

La casierie, imaginile recepţionate trebuie să permită vizionarea mâinilor casierului, culoarea, numărul şi valoarea jetoanelor şi a bancnotelor, în timp ce imaginile de la recepţie trebuie să permită vizionarea integrală sau a bustului persoanelor care pătrund în in-cinta cazinoului.

and 25 mm, the logo or name of the casino will be printed on one of the sides and will be perfectly balanced.

The rule which the sum of the points printed on the opposite parts of the dice must be equal to 7 will be respected.

Regarding the roulette, their wheels will be manufactured by spe-cialized companies, and the tables will have two double-locked bo-xes which will remain open on the tables after working hours.

Also, after working hours, the wheels of the roulette will be pro-tected by a lid in order to permit their closing and sealing.

The location of the tables in the casino will be individualized by attributing a unique serial to each table in the casino plan.

The casinos can receive for storage only amounts in cash, lei or foreign currency and these amounts will be kept in specially desig-ned safety boxes in the casino’s cashier, other than those destined for current operations of the casino.

The presence of the manager, table managers, cashier and table personnel in the case of opening/closing of tables, counting of the tips collected from the tables, as well as during credit or debit of the tables is required by law.

There are also regulations regarding the chips, respectively: the-se must be manufactured by recognized companies in their field, having printed the casino’s logo and being able to be purchased from the cashier or the gaming tables, in lei or foreign currency; their restitution can only take place at the cashier.

As an interesting note, the uniforms of the personnel cannot ha-ve pockets.

There will also be a required record of the access of players in the casino, and this record shall only be kept electronically and contain the identification data of the participants (first and last na-me, date of birth, identification document, series, number) .

The primary accounting records is kept on a daily basis for each table and on a monthly basis, until the 5th of the current month for the last month, the records will be centralized.

The organizers of casino gambling activity have the right to ex-pand their activity by authorizing the number of gaming tables.

În cazul jocurilor de noroc la care evenimentele aleatorii se produc prin intermediul zarurilor, acestea vor fi amestecate şi lansate într-o cu-pă, urnă sau cu mâna.

Confecţionarea zarurilor trebuie să fie făcută din oase, materiale plastice, ebonită, fildeş, metal sau alte materiale acceptate pe plan in-ternaţional, zarurile vor avea laturile perfect egale, cu dimensiunile cu-prinse între 20 mm şi 25 mm, sigla sau denumirea cazinoului va fi in-scripţionată pe una dintre feţe şi vor fi perfect echilibrate.

Va fi respectată regula conform căreia suma punctelor înscrise pe feţele opuse ale unui zar să fie egală cu cifra 7.

În privinţa ruletelor, roţile acestora vor fi confecţionate de către firme specializate, iar mesele vor avea în dotare două cutii cu dublă incuietoa-re care vor sta deschise pe mesele de joc în afara programului.

De asemenea, tot dupa terminarea programului, roţile ruletelor vor fi protejate cu un capac care să permită închiderea şi sigilarea acestora.

Amplasarea meselor în cazinou se individualizează prin intermediul unei serii unice atribuită fiecărei mese în schiţa de amplasare a cazino-ului.

Cazinourile pot primi spre păstrare sume numai în numerar, lei sau valută, ale clienţilor, iar aceste sume vor fi păstrate în seifuri special amenajate în casieria sălii de joc, altele decât cele destinate operaţiuni-lor curente ale cazinoului.

Prezenţa directorului de sală, a şefului/şefilor de masă, a casierului şi a lucrătorilor de la masă în cazul deschiderii şi închiderilor meselor, a numărării bacşişului colectat de la mese, precum şi în cazul operaţiuni-lor de creditare sau debitare a meselor de joc este obligatoriu prin lege.

Exista şi reglementări în privinţa jetoanelor şi anume: acestea trebuie să fie produse de firme recunoscute în domeniu, având inscripţionată sigla cazinoului şi pot fi cumpărate de la casierie sau de la mesele de joc, în lei sau valută, restituirea acestora făcându-se numai la casierie.

Ca o observaţie interesantă, uniformele celor din personalul care de-serveşte sala de joc trebuie să nu aibă buzunare.

Va exista în mod obligatoriu şi o evidenţă a accesului jucătorilor în incinta cazinoului, iar această evidenţă se va face numai în format elec-tronic şi va conţine datele de identificare ale participanţilor (nume, pre-nume, data naşterii, documentul de identificare, seria, numărul acestu-ia).

Evidenţa primară contabilă se ţine zilnic pentru fiecare masă de joc, iar lunar, până pe data de 5 a lunii în curs pentru luna precedentă, evi-denţele vor fi centralizate.

Organizatorii de jocuri de noroc tip cazinou au dreptul la extinderea activităţii prin autorizarea majorarii numărului de mese speciale de joc.
