It is with great happiness that I am introduced as your new managing director. My name is Rino Brugge. I come to you from Qatar, where I was the managing director of the Nakilat Damen Shipyard Qatar.

The first time I came to Galati was 15 years ago, when I was working together with some of you at the Sarah Baartman Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV) project for South Africa. I remember being totally impressed by the scale, the complexity and the professionalism of the shipyard and its people. In the meantime the shipyard in Galati has become the best shipyard of the Damen Group, the engine on which our company runs. Thats an amazing achievement!

A few things about myselfMy first encounter with shipbuilding was exactly 20 years ago when I did an internship in mechanical engineering at the Royal Schelde Dock and Shipyard. In 2000, after Damen took over the company, I started a management traineeship that brought me to Amels Makum, Damen Gorinchem and Damen Schelde. Later on, I joined the purchase department of Damen Schelde and I worked together with the team in Galati at some of the most complex Offshore and Transport (O&T) vessels. In addition to the project for South Africa, the MENAS, the TESO and the KBV projects were carried out together by Damen Schelde and Damen Galati.

My next job was my first assignment abroad, which really opened my eyes to the world. In 2008 I joined Damen Shipyards Singapore as project manager for High Speed Crafts and Fast Ferries. Some joke about Singapore being expat for beginners. Nevertheless, it was my first real contact with the big world, stepping out of my comfort zone, going into a totally new and different environment, people, culture, and values. It has been a great experience.

Prima oar cnd am venit la Galai a fost acum 15 ani, cnd am lucrat cu unii dintre voi la proiectul Sarah Baartman, Nav de Patrulare tip Offshore (OPV) construit pentru Africa de Sud. mi amintesc c am fost absolut impresionat de mrimea, complexitatea i profesionalismul antierului i a oamenilor si. ntre timp antierul din Galai a devenit cel mai performant antier al Grupului Damen, motorul care angreneaz compania noastr. Este o realizare extraordinar!

Mai trziu, m-am alturat departamentului de achiziii Damen Schelde i am lucrat mpreun cu echipa din Galai la cteva dintre cele mai complexe nave de tip Offshore & Transport (O&T). n plus fa de proiectul pentru Africa de Sud, i proiectele MENAS, TESO i KBV au fost realizate mpreun de ctre Damen Schelde i Damen Galai.

Urmtoarea mea misiune a reprezentat i prima mea numire ntr-o funcie n strintate, ceea ce mi-a deschis noi orizonturi. n 2008 m-am alturat Damen Shipyards Singapore n calitate de manager de proiect pentru divizia de High Speed Crafts and Fast Ferries. Mai n glum, acolo eram considerat ca expat nceptor. Cu toate acestea, Singapore a reprezentat primul meu contact real cu lumea i ieirea din zona de confort, ptrunderea ntr-un mediu complet nou i diferit, cu altfel de oameni, cultur i valori. A fost o experien fantastic.

n 2010 m-am ntors n Olanda la Damen Schelde ca unul dintre managerii de proiect pentru Joint Support Ship (JSS), scopul meu principal fiind alinierea engineering-ului i achiziiilor din cadrul Damen Schelde cu strategia complex de construcie din Damen Galai. Imediat ce faza de debut a JSS a fost demarat, am fost numit Director de Proiect pentru cele trei Fregate Multifuncionale Sigma construite pentru Marina Militar

In 2010 I returned to the Netherlands and to Damen Schelde as one of the project managers for the Joint Support Ship (JSS), mainly to align the engineering and procurement at Damen Schelde with the complex building strategy of Damen Galati. As soon as the startup phase of JSS was brought back on track, I was appointed Project Director for the three Sigma Multi-Purpose Frigates for the Royal Moroccan Navy. Although I had very much enjoyed the complex and challenging projects at Damen Schelde, after my positive experience working and living in Singapore, I signed up for the next challenge abroad.

In early 2013 I joined the Nakilat Damen Shipyard in Qatar (NDSQ) as a member of the management team and later on I took over as Managing Director of NDSQ. It has been an enriching experience leading a truly multicultural workforce of 28 nationalities in an extremely difficult business environment.

When the Damen Management asked me if I would be interested in joining Damen Galati in Romania I was very honored and happily accepted to become part of the team here in Galati.

Returning to Damen Galati in my new position, I was pleasantly surprised to find so many diverse vessels under construction at the shipyard, from mega yachts to complex commercial and naval vessels, in both steel and aluminium.

As we all know, the current prolonged economic crisis has left many companies in dire straits. Weve already seen a fair amount of bankruptcies in our industry. Various shipyards around the world and within the Damen Group are struggling to stay above water. Against this background, our shipyard is doing surprisingly well, thanks to its good reputation of always delivering in time and at a high quality. The main challenge for all of us will be to work together at keeping up our excellent reputation as the most flexible and best production shipyard of the Damen Group.

To wrap up, all the people in Galai have been very welcoming to me and my family and I am confident that we will have a wonderful time working and living here.

Cnd managementul Damen m-a ntrebat dac a fi interesat de Damen Galai din Romnia, m-am simit foarte onorat i am acceptat cu bucurie s fac parte din echipa de aici.
