Project Description
The Arts Building, located at 336 West 37th
St., New York, NY 10018, was selected for
this project to be transformed into a modern
and elegant boutique hotel.
Design Statement
The building’s architecture of exposed bricks
and large windows inspired a contemporary
design that mixes an industrial look with the
luxury expected from a hotel competing to
attract the savvy and sophisticated traveling
public of the modern world.

Project Description
The project is a 24’ x 80’ gelateria located in
the vibrant city of Miami, with the client
intending the artisanal gelato to appeal to
both locals and tourists.
Design Statement
The concept for gelateria Affogato is
authenticity and tradition integrated within a
contemporary environment. The honesty of the
original method of making gelato is revealed in
the design by the use of exposed shelving and
brick + concrete on the walls. To achieve a
balance between tradition and modern times, I
integrated clean lines and quirky artwork by
local artists.

Project Description
This 1,800 sq. ft. condominium is located at
737 W Washington Blvd. in the trendy West Loop
neighborhood of Chicago. The Skybridge
building was designed by Perkins & Will in a
modernist architectural style, with dramatic
wrap-around views that make each unit feel
more spacious and airy.
Design Statement
The design of the Thompson residence was
inspired by the owners’ art collection and the
architecture of the Skybridge building. I
created a sleek and sophisticated environment
that feels contemporary and welcoming at the
same time. The living area is dominated by
various shades of gray, with contrasting
elements of black and white that break the
monotony and add interest to the space. The
extensive use of wood and the soft lines of
the master bedroom provide a serene atmosphere
that is more appropriate for privacy and
relaxation.

Client Profile
Edward and Patricia Blackwell own a large
house in a residential neighborhood outside
the town of St. Charles, Illinois. They both
have British ancestry and are passionate
about art, antiques and travelling.
Design Statement
The interiors will display a traditional look
inspired by the Neoclassical and Rococo
designs of 18th century Britain, with colors
and patterns that will add a fresh and modern
look. Following the principles of Robert &
James Adam’s architecture, classical
proportion and symmetry will be the main
focus of my design.

Project Description
This project is located in Casuarina Beach on
the eastern coast of Australia. I based the
design of the house on the principles of passive
design, maximizing !north-facing daytime living
areas and using clerestory windows to take
advantage of winter sun and cooling summer
breezes. The open floor plan and the spacious
verandas allow for efficient cross ventilation
during the numerous hot days.
Design Statement
My design reflects the clients’ deep love for
the mid-century modern aesthetic, with geometric
patterns and muted colors inspired by this very
influential era. A warm, inviting atmosphere is
prevalent throughout the space thanks to the
light-toned wood in the flooring and the soft
yellow paint .

Adaptive Reuse
The Chicago Baptist Institute building is located on
the northeastern edge of the Washington Park
community area at 5120 S. King Dr., facing Washington
Park itself. Built between 1898-99, the former
Chicago Orphan Asylum Building was designed in the
Colonial Revival architectural style by Shepley,
Rutan & Coolidge. The building will be transformed
into an elegant boutique hotel that will reflect the
cultural roots of the neighborhood.
Concept Statement
In American history, the 1920s are considered a time
of great prosperity and technological, social and
cultural innovation. Also known as the Jazz Age, this
dynamic era coincided with the Harlem Renaissance
movement, when African-American writers, artists, and
community leaders promoted racial pride and a new
black consciousness on a scale never seen before.
