CONŢINUT TEMATIC:

Tematica abordata a fost axata in întregime pe realizarea de cercetări fundamentale si aplicative in

domeniul fizicii stării condensate, având ca scop obţinerea de date ştiinţifice privind procesele fizice si

implicaţiile lor fenomenologice, ca si obţinerea de rezultate cu impact aplicativ si utilizabile pentru lucrări

de doctorat, masterat si licenţa.

Cercetarile raportate in cadrul Proiectului Abordări complexe in studiul proceselor si fenomenelor

fizice in materia condensata in perioada 2009 – 2015 au acoperit o arie larga de preocupari care pot fi

subscrise mai ales ariei de cercetare fundamentala, iar continutul lor stiintific este structurat pe

urmatoarele teme de cercetare:

A. Fenomene critice şi mecanisme de interacţie

B. Concepte, tehnici şi fenomene la scară mesoscopică

C. Efectele structurii asupra proprietăţilor materiei condensate

D. Fenomene optice, fotoelectrice şi de recombinare

Toate aceste teme se regăsesc in cercetările de fizica stării condensate pe plan internaţional. In

continuare ne vom referi la conţinutul ştiinţific al fiecărei teme.

Tema A a abordat problematica moderna privind fazele magnetice si supraconductoare.

Supraconductorii cu temperatura critica ridicata constituie materiale ideale pentru economisirea energiei,

tematica in care se realizeaza ample cercetari fundamentale si aplicative. Astfel, am studiat activarea

termica a retelei de vortexuri peste barierele de fixare, mecanismele de evoluţie de la frustrare magnetica

la supraconducţie. Am studiat sisteme electronice puternic corelate si am pus in evidenta modificarea

topologiei suprafeţei Fermi la modificarea dimensionalitătii spaţiale. Am investigat magnetotransportul in

filme subtiri si multipaturi magnetice in relatie cu morfologia interfetelor in structuri tip valva de spin cu

patura conductoare. In semiconductorii magnetic diluati, am evidentiat posibilitatea de obtinere a unei

dependente magnetizare-temperatura cu maxim, în condiţii de răcire în câmp magnetic aplicat.

Tema B: Studiul structurilor cuantice şi in particular al punctelor cuantice este de interes pentru fizica

moderna a semiconductorilor in special legat de aplicaţiile in electronica si informatica. Am abordat

probleme specifice interferometrelor studiind faza transmitantei electronice si efectele de coerenta. Am

studiat transportul dependent de timp, proprietatile de scala ale conductantei electronice neliniare in

sisteme deschise, fenomene de tip „Fermi edge”, precum si proprietătile electronice ale retelelor atomice

bidimensionale cu legi de dispersie liniare în apropierea punctelor Dirac. De asemenea, am studiat unele

sisteme mesoscopice pe baza de C, cum sunt nanotuburile de carbon si grafena pentru componente micro-

si nano-electronice, am investigat proprietatile topologice ale grafenei mesoscopice si am modelat

structural noi configuratii nanocarbonice. Am abordat teoretic efecte de confinare cuantica in sisteme 2D,

1D si 0D.

Tema C a abordat probleme legate de corelaţia dintre proprietăţile structurale si cele electronice in

solide necristaline, in materiale feroelectrice si multiferoice, in structuri pe baza de nanocristale de Ge in

matrice oxidica de TiO2 sau HfO2. Aceste din urma structuri au importante aplicatii ca memorii nevolatile

si fotodetectori. De asemenea, am studiat procese de agregare a proteinelor pe membrane lipidice, care

pot oferi informatii care sa duca la intelegerea mecanismului de declansare a bolii Alzheimer.

In cadrul Temei D, problematica abordata a cuprins atat studiul materialelor si structurilor

nanometrice, cat si al celor masive. De asemenea, ne-am concentrat atentia asupra unei clase foarte largi

de materiale. De exemplu, pe baza mecanismul SERS am elaborat o procedura de identificare a

nanotuburior de carbon metalice si semiconductoare in configuratie SWNT, DWNT si MWNT. In

caracterizarea interfetelor si a straturilor subtiri am folosit unele metode optice: metoda generării

armonicii a doua pentru caracterizarea suprafeţelor de GaAs nepasivate, corodate prin diferite proceduri si

pasivate cu tioli in scopul îmbunătăţirii tehnologiei de obţinere a unor contacte ohmice sau redresoare

pentru dispozitive optoelectronice performante, şi spectroscopia de absorbţie cu cavitate rezonanta. Am

studiat fenomene de transport in clase foarte diferite de materiale, de exemplu in structuri organice si in

oxizi metalici semiconductori din grupa a VI-a, in vederea folosirii acestor informatii in senzorii de gaze.

Am pus in evidenta influenta defectelor asupra caracteristicilor de dispozitiv, cu aplicatii legate de

detectorii pentru fizica energiilor inalte. Am evidentiat posibilitatea de a modifica proprietatile optice

(indice de refractie, largimea benzii interzise, reflectivitate, transparenta) ale semiconductorilor amorfi

oxidici prin modificarea concentratiei fiecarui cation din compus.

PERFORMANŢE REALIZATE:

Asa dupa cum am mentionat in Sectiunea „Continut tematic”, cercetarile intreprinse in cadrul

Proiectului Abordări complexe in studiul proceselor si fenomenelor fizice in materia condensata in

perioada 2009 – 2015 au fost structurate pe urmatoarele directii de cercetare:

A. Fenomene critice şi mecanisme de interacţie

B. Concepte, tehnici şi fenomene la scară mesoscopică

C. Efectele structurii asupra proprietăţilor materiei condensate

D. Fenomene optice, fotoelectrice şi de recombinare

Au fost predate 82 de faze, multe dintre acestea putand fi plasate la granita a doua dintre directiile

mentionate.

In domeniul sistemelor electronice puternic corelate (SCES) care constituie in ultima perioada un

subiect intens investigat, am pus in evidenta modificarea topologiei suprafeţei Fermi la modificarea

dimensionalitătii spaţiale in filme subţiri de Mo3Sb7 si de CeAl2, am pus la punct tehnica de obtinere

stoichiometrica a compusului CeAgSb2 si am analizat proprietatile magnetice si de transport electric intr-

un model coerent bazat pe suprapunerea interactiilor Ruderman-Kittel-Kasuya-Yosida cu un efect Kondo

de retea in prezenta campului electric cristalin, am studiat direct efectele dimensionalitatii spatiale asupra

fenomenelor legate de criticitatea cuantica in sisteme SCES intermetalice aflate in vecinatatea unui punct

critic cuantic, si am studiat simetria parametrului de ordine supraconductor in UBe13.

Am pus la punct o metoda de evidentiere a inconjurarii locale (distorsie tetragonala, lungimea

legaturilor) si a starii de ionizare prin analiza maximului dinaintea limitei de absorbtie X in metale de

tranzitie, am studiat rolul satelitilor "shake-up" si "shake-down" in cuantificarea corecta a spectrelor XPS

ale oxizilor de ceriu, am studiat efectele interacţiilor de interfaţă asupra structurii atomice la interfata a

doi semiconductori (in particular WO3-TiO2) prin spectroscopie EXAFS.

In tematica materialelor supraconductoare, am investigat mărimile caracteristice ale activării

termice a mişcării vortexurilor peste barierele de fixare pentru straturile subţiri supraconductoate de

YBa2Cu3O7 dopate optim si crescute epitaxial pe SrTiO3 orientat (100), am studiat evolutia cu presiunea a

diagramei de faza B-T pentru CeCoIn5 prin intermediul masuratorilor de caldura specifica si am

evidentiat ca presiunea stabilizeaza faza Fulde-Ferrell-Larkin-Ovchinnikov, suprimind fluctuatiile

antiferomagnetice prezente la presiune ambienta unde sistemul este situat in vecinatatea unui punct critic

cuantic; am studiat mecanismele de evoluţie de la frustrare magnetica la supraconducţie, am dezvoltat

modele si am cules date privind competitia dintre ordonarile magnetice in sisteme cu frustrare

geometrica si am urmarit dezvoltarea ordinii supraconductoare prin modificari in structura geometrica.

De asemenea, am studiat materiale policristaline supraconductoare din sistemul MgB2 obtinute prin

metoda Spark Plasma Sintering in scopul stabilirii unor precursori optimizati pentru fabricarea de fire

si benzi supraconductoare cu aplicatii in domeniul energetic; am investigat rolul Ag ca aditiv in

imbunatatirea proprietatilor supraconductoare in pnictidele de tip SmFeAsO1-xFx (Sm-1111) prin

caracterizare complexa morfo-structurala, electrica si magnetica a unei serii de probe din aceasta clasa de

materiale, cu diferite procente de Ag si am prezentat o analiza comparativa a proprietatilor fizice ale

pnictidelor supraconductoare considerate de temperatura ridicata (peste temperatura de lichefiere a

hidrogenului) cu si fara paturi de CuO in structura cristaliana. Am prezentat rezultatele obtinute in

imbunatatirea proprietatilor critice ale MgB2 prin dopare adecvata care sa nu introduca termeni de

imprastiere interbenzi. Materialele BiPbSrCaCuO au fost preparate din pulberi precursoare de Bi-2223

prin metoda reacţiei in faza solida, si s-a urmarit obţinerea unor conductori acoperiţi cu un conţinut cat

mai ridicat de faza supraconductoare de temperatura critica înalta.

Legat de proprietatile magnetice, am investigat sistemul de compusi Dy5(SixGe1-x)4 care prezinta

efecte magnetocalorice, magnetoelastice, magnetorezistive si tranziţii de fază structurale si magnetice,

efectul prezentei vacantelor de oxigen in anatase TiO2 dopat cu Mn, Fe sau Co; geluri compozite pe baza

de poliacrilamide si materiale full-Heusler pe baza de zirconiu. De asemenea, am investigat

magnetotransportul in filme subtiri si multipaturi magnetice in relatie cu morfologia interfetelor in

structuri tip valva de spin cu patura conductoare. Am studiat de asemenea semiconductori magnetic

diluati in sistemele ZnO:Co, preparat prin sol-gel sau PLD, TiO2:Co preparat prin sol-gel, TiO2:Fe

preparat prin pulverizare magnetron: am calculat energia totala de interactie a unui ion feromagnetic i cu

toti ceilalti ioni feromagnetici j plasati in mod aleator in nodurile unei retele cubice, si am gasit ca aceasta

prezinta un minim in functie de concentratia de dopaj cu ioni magnetici, n, situat la n~ 1.5 %, iar pentru n

> cca. 3.2 % starea feromagnetica nu mai este stabila. In Ge(001) dopat cu Mn interacţia de schimb

indirect între ionii magnetici izolaţi este intermediată de purtătorii de sarcină din semiconductor, prin

intermediul unei funcţii de impulsul mediu al purtătorilor în reţea, care are caracter oscilant. Aceasta

poate conduce la o dependenta magnetizare-temperatura cu maxim, în condiţii de răcire în câmp magnetic

aplicat.

Am raportat rezultate valoroase si in domeniul analizei probelor prin difractie. Astfel, am aratat cum

poate fi folosita difractia de electroni pentru identificarea si caracterizarea clusterilor de atomi de C sau

N formati in straturile superficiale ale materialelor cristaline prin difuzie interstiţiala, am elaborat si

implementat in programe de tip Rietveld profilul de difractie al cristalitelor sferice cu distribuţie

lognormala care conservă simultan lungimile de coloană mediate pe volum si arie, ceea ce permite

determinarea granulaţiei reale (forma, dimensiuni si distribuţiile acestora) a unei probe policristaline

prin difracţie de raze X sau neutroni. Am elaborat o noua reprezentare (printr-o serie de armonice

sferice) a functiei de distributie dupa orientare, ponderata de textura macrodeformarilor reziduale sau de

sarcina in materiale policristaline, care este valabila pentru orice clasa Laue a cristalului si probei si este

implementabila in programele de tip Rietveld. O tematica oarecum inrudita o reprezinta punerea la punct

a unei metode analitice de determinare a profilelor de concentratie prin spectroscopie de fotoelectroni

si de electroni Auger, nedistructiva, rapida si cu cost redus. Metoda a fost testata pe un sistem model,

acela al Cu depus prin epitaxie in fascicul molecular pe Fe(001).

In cadrul fenomenelor mesoscopice, am abordat probleme specifice interferometrelor studiind faza

transmitantei electronice si efectele de coerenta. Am studiat transportul dependent de timp, proprietatile

de scala ale conductantei electronice neliniare in sisteme deschise, fenomene de tip „Fermi edge”, precum

si proprietătile electronice în retele atomice bidimensionale cu legi de dispersie liniare în apropierea

punctelor Dirac. Am prezentat pentru prima oara o descriere teoretica a regimului de 'quantum turnstile'

pentru nanomagneti artificiali. De asemenea, am studiat unele sisteme mesoscopice pe baza de C, cum

sunt nanotuburile de carbon si grafena pentru componente micro- si nano-electronice, am investigat

proprietatile topologice ale grafenei mesoscopice si am modelat structural noi configuratii

nanocarbonice.

Efectele de confinare cuantica au fost abordate teoretic in sisteme 2D, 1D si 0D, si s-au studiat in

spectrele de rezonanta electronica paramagnetica ale doturilor de ZnS:Mn2+. Am modelat procesele optice

si de transport in doturi cuantice cu impuritati magnetice si am studiat generarea nerezonanta de fotoni

asistata de interactia Coulombiana in emisia optica a doturilor.

In cadrul sistemelor feroelectrice am studiat adsorbţia, desorbţia şi fotodesorbţia moleculara la

suprafaţa si am pus in evidenta prin XPS ca aceste fenomene pot schimba starea de polarizare

feroelectrica; am elaborat modele simple pentru sistemele pseudocubice de tip perovskit ABO3 cu

distorsiune tetragonala: PbTiO3, Pb(Zr,Ti)O3 si BaTiO3. Influenta structurii asupra proprietatilor

materialelor a facut obiectul mai multor tipuri de studii: s-a investigat influenta dimensiunii cristalitelor

asupra proprietatilor gaz-sensitive ale oxizilor metalici semiconductori, influenta elementelor constructive

ale senzorilor de gaze pe baza de WO3 nanostructurat asupra mecanismului de detecţie a monoxidului de

carbon, legat de aplicatiile la senzorii de gaze. Materialele perovskit ABO3 au fost studiate pentru

proprietatile feroelectrice, piroelectrice, piezoelectrice, magnetice sau multiferoice: s-au studiat materiale

fara plumb cu structura tip core-shell, precum si legatura intre compozitie si reactivitatea de suprafata in

materiale sintetizate prin depunere din pulsuri laser. S-a elaborat tehnologia de preparare a materialelor

Ba1-xSrxTiO3 si au fost studiate proprietatile acestei clase de materiale. ZnO nanocristalin dopat cu

concentratii variate de ioni de Mn2+ a fost investigat in vederea determinarii prezentei si localizarii ionilor

Mn2+ in nanocristalele de ZnO, a efectului acestora asupra structurii, dimensiunii si morfologiei

nanocristalelor rezultate. Aliajele din sistemul Fe-Pd-X sunt feromagnetice si au proprietatea de

memorie a formei. Materiale oxidice cu structura perovskitica RMn2O5 au fost obtinute pentru prima

data din precursori moleculari coordinativi: acestea au proprietatea ca unii membri din serie sunt

magnetoelectrici si prezinta un cuplaj relativ strans intre polarizarea electrica si magnetizare.

Studiile privind procesele de agregare a proteinelor pe membrane lipidice pot oferi informatii care

sa duca la intelegerea mecanismului de declansare a bolii Alzheimer, pentru ca ele sunt constituentele

majoritare in placile extracelulare anormale evidentiate in creierul pacientilor cu aceasta afectiune.

La iradierea semiconductorilor se formeaza, alaturi de defectele punctuale, defecte extinse care

afecteaza proprietatile de material si caracteristicile dispozitivelor care lucreaza in camp de radiatii. Am

modelat producerea de defecte extinse in siliciu cristalin, si efectele acestora asupra caracteristicilor

detectorului. Am prezentat un model unitar al pierderii de energie a particulei incidente in reţeaua

siliciului, studiind fenomenele asociate transferului de energie in trei regimuri: de pierdere de energie

nucleara dominanta (energii mici), pierdere de energie electronica mare, respectiv de pierderi de energie

comparabile prin cele doua mecanisme. Am rezolvat numeric sistemul de ecuaţii diferentiale cu derivate

parţiale pentru temperaturile celor doua subsisteme, si am determinat astfel mărimea zonei perturbate.

Iradierea cu ioni grei produce atat defecte, cat si un camp de stress datorat dimensiunilor mai mari ale

ionilor grei opriti in reteaua semiconductorului. Am investigat efectul campului de stress asupra

parametrilor centrilor de captura.

Am studiat influenta morfologiei asupra comportarii electrice si de fotoconductie in structuri pe baza

de nanocristale de Ge in matrice oxidica de TiO2 sau HfO2 si am aratat ca aceste structuri au aplicatii

importante ca memorii si fotodetectori. Am pus in evidenta legatura stransa intre morfologie si

proprietatile de memorie/ fotoconductoare, si faptul ca pe aceasta baza se pot optimiza proprietatile unor

dispozitive realizate folosind structurile cu nanocrsitale de Ge in matrice oxidica.

Analiza rezultatelor obtinute folosind metoda Raman ne-a condus la propunerea unui mecanism ce

duce la creşterea apreciabilă a polarizabilităţii moleculare în vecinătatea suprafeţelor metalice ca

alternativă pentru explicarea efectului Surface Enhanced Raman Scattering (SERS); am aratat ca efectul

dipolilor imagine este cu câteva ordine de mărime mai important decat acela al plasmonilor de suprafaţă

în cuasi-totalitatea cazurilor experimentale. Pe baza mecanismul SERS am elaborat o procedura de

identificare a nanotuburior de carbon metalice si semiconductoare in configuratie SWNT, DWNT si

MWNT. S-a elaborat si demonstrat un nou mecanism pentru interpretarea procesului de interactie

exciton-fonon prin emisie Raman stimulata. Rezultatatele obtinute au deschis perspectiva generalizarii

acestei interpretari si pentru alte materiale, structuri de strat (BiI3, Cs3Bi2I9) sau structuri wurtzite (CdS) in

conditiile unei excitari optice rezonante coincidente cu banda excitonica. Impactul aplicativ s-ar putea

focaliza pe imbunatatirea structurilor perovskit pentru celule solare.

In caracterizarea interfetelor si a straturilor subtiri am folosit unele metode optice: metoda generării

armonicii a doua pentru caracterizarea suprafeţelor de GaAs nepasivate, corodate prin diferite proceduri si

pasivate cu tioli in scopul îmbunătăţirii tehnologiei de obţinere a unor contacte ohmice sau redresoare

pentru dispozitive optoelectronice performante, şi spectroscopia de absorbţie cu cavitate rezonanta.

Am studiat fenomene de transport in clase foarte diferite de materiale. Astfel, in structuri organice

am pus in evidenta efectul curenţilor limitaţi de sarcina spaţială asupra fenomenelor de conducţie: la

tensiuni joase am gasit o comportare ohmica, iar la tensiuni mari limitarea curentului indus datorata

sarcinii spaţiale si capturii de sarcina; in cazul in care se urmareste sa se obtina un electrod conductor

transparent, am evidentiat ca tratamentul (termic sau in plasma) la care este supus electrodul influenteaza

propietatile acestuia. Am identificat mecanismele de conductie in oxizi metalici semiconductori din

grupa a VI-a, precum si influenta concentratiei de oxigen si a umiditatii mediului, in vederea folosirii

acestor informatii in senzorii de gaze. Am pus in evidenta influenta defectelor asupra caracteristicilor de

dispozitiv, cu aplicatii in detectorii folositi in fizica energiilor inalte. Am raportat rezultatele obţinute in

prepararea unui nou sistem fotoconductor, obţinut prin utilizarea amestecului seleniu + polimer PV-

carbazol, iar in sistemul de multistraturi alternate argint- calcogenic am stabilit un model pentru difuzie.

Studiul proprietatilor piezoelectrice a prezentat de asemenea interes. Am evidentiat efectul benefic al

doparii cu ioni de Fe, Ni, Zn si Cr in vederea obtinerii unor materiale destinate traductoarelor de

ultrasunete de mare performanta. Am studiat efectul temperaturii, campului electric si al iradierii cu

neutroni asupra coeficientilor dielectrici si piezoelectrici in feroelectrici. Vizand aplicaţiile în tehnologiile

IT actuale şi de perspectivă am raportat de asemenea rezultate privitoare la interfata Ir-PZT, si anume

efectul de orientare structurala al stratului de Ir asupra stratului PZT in cresterea straturilor subtiri; efectul

atmosferei si temperaturii de tratament termic asupra parametrilor feroelectrici; efectul stratului de Ir ca

bariera de oxigen la interfata metal-ceramica.

Am evidentiat posibilitatea de a modifica proprietatile optice (indice de refractie, largimea benzii

interzise, reflectivitate, trans-parenta) ale semiconductorilor amorfi oxidici de tip Inx-wGawZn1-xO1+1/2x-δ prin modificarea concentratiei fiecarui cation din compus, folosind masuratori elipsometrice. In sistemele

compozite formate din oxizi anorganici si cianoderivati au fost puse in evidenta speciile moleculare pe

suprafata. Proprietatile acestor specii arata taria interactiei cianoderivatilor cu suprafata suportului,

precum si posibila lor implicare in fenomene de asociere supramoleculara si aliniere a moleculelor in

straturile mai departate de suprafata.

2.Pulberi nanometrice monodisperse cu dimensiune controlata incepand de la 2 nm de ZnS si ZnO pure si

dopate cu ioni ale metalelor de tranzitie (e.g. Mn). Distributia de dimensiuni a nanoparticulelor si dopajul au fost

demonstrate prin tehnici microstructurale (XRD, TEM/HRTEM) si spectroscopice (RES). Pulberile obtinute prin

coprecipitare au potential de aplicatii in optoelectronica, spintronica, imagistica medicala.

2.Metoda pentru caracterizarea unor molecule (cu semnatura vibrationala distincta) adsorbite la suprafata

particulelor oxidice

Domeniu de aplicabilitate: Sisteme micro si nano- disperse, catalizatori

Prezentare generală: Metoda se bazeaza folosirea unor molecule test si pe date experimentale de

termogravimetrie (TG) si spectroscopie FTIR. Masuratorile TG conduc la cantitatea de molecule test

incarcate pe materialul oxidic considerat. Datele FTIR identifica “semnaturile” vibrationale ale

moleculelor test adsorbite si face o descompunere in componente a principalelor maxime de

absorbtie. Densitatea speciilor de suprafata este estimata din cele doua tipuri de masuratori.

Principalele caracteristici tehnice: Sensibilitate ridicata.

Efecte socio-economice şi de mediu: In masura in care sistemele disperse caracterizate au aplicatii,

metoda poate contribui la identificarea unor materiale utilizabile in protectia mediului, de ex. ca

adsorbanti.
