The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) is a mainline Protestant denomination born on the American frontier among Presbyterians and others who rejected the sectarian divisions of European churches and sought fellowship around a common table open to all who profess faith in Jesus Christ. The Lord’s Supper is central to their worship every Sunday. Ecumenism and a deep commitment to mission in partnership with other churches throughout the world lie at the heart of Disciples self-understanding. Disciples in the US and Canada are currently meeting in their biennial General Assembly this week in Columbus.
