The CEN‐CENELEC‐ETSI Sector Forum on Smart and Sustainable Cities and Communities (SF‐SSCC), created in January 2017, is a long‐term joint group of the ESOs that acts as an advisory and coordinating body for the European standardization activities related to SSCC.

The Cities Standards Institute, a joint initiative of the British Standards Institution (BSI) and the Future Cities Catapult, brings together cities and key industry leaders and innovators to work together in identifying the challenges facing cities, providing solutions to common problems and defining the future of smart city standards.

The Cities Standards Institute builds on the current foundation:

Focus Group on Smart Sustainable Cities The FG‐SSC acted as an open platform for smart‐city stakeholders – such as municipalities; academic and research institutes; non‐governmental organizations (NGOs); and ICT organizations, industry forums and consortia – to exchange knowledge in the interests of identifying the standardized frameworks needed to support the integration of ICT services in smart cities.

ITU‐T STUDY GROUP 20 ‐ INTERNET OF THINGS AND SMART CITIES AND COMMUNITIESITU‐T Study Group 20 (SG20) is responsible for the development of international standards to enable the coordinated development of IoT technologies in smart cities, including machine‐to‐machine communications and ubiquitous sensor networks. This Study Group is also involved in studies relating to big data aspects of IoT and smart cities and communities.
