Turn it on & off
To turn your phone on or off, press
and hold Power/Lock (on the
side of the phone).
Activate SIM cards(EX128 only)
Your phone supports two SIM cards. When two SIM
cards are installed, you can activate one or both SIM
cards.
1 From the home screen, tap to open the main
menu.
2 Tap Settings> Dual SIM Settings.
3 Set mode to Dual SIM open, Only SIM1 open,Only SIM2 openor Flight mode.
Note: If only one SIM card is installed, it will be
activated by default.
Make & answer calls
To make a call from the home screen, tap with the
stylus to open the dialler. Enter a number, then press
Call .

Sleep & wake up
To save your battery, prevent
accidental taps or when you want to
wipe smudges off your
touchscreen, put the touchscreen
to sleep by pressing
Power/Lock . To wake the
touchscreen, press Power/Lock again, then drag
the padlock to the right.
To change how long your phone waits before
the screen goes to sleep automatically, tap
> Settings>Phone settings>Display
>Screen saver> Waiting.

Widgets
Add a widget, such as a clock, slide show or a calendar
that shows upcoming appointments.
To add widgets, tap and hold the home screen for a
few seconds until a widget list is displayed. Tap the
widget you want, then tap OK.
Shortcuts
Your shortcuts are shown at the bottom of the home
screen.
Main menu
All the apps on your phone are shown in your main
menu.
To open the main menu from the home screen, tap .
Tap an app to open it and tap Backto return to thehome screen. You can also press End to return to
the home screen at any time.

Emergency calls
Note: Your service provider will have programmed oneor more emergency phone numbers (such as 999 or
112) that you can call under any circumstances, even
when your phone is locked. Emergency numbers vary
by country. Your pre-programmed emergency
number(s) may not work in all locations, and
sometimes it may not be possible to place an
emergency call due to network, environmental or
interference issues.
1 Tap (if your phone is locked, tap Emergency Call).
2 Enter the emergency number.

Find it: Messaging>Write message
Use the touchscreen keypad to enter your message.
TapOptionsto insert a picture, sound or video. Whenyou've finished composing the message, tapOptions
>Send toto enter phone numbers or select messagerecipients from your phonebook. To send the
message, tapOptions>Send.
Receive a message
When you receive a message, your phone will play an
alert and will show the new message indicator at
the top of the screen.
To read the new message, tapView.
To read messages stored in your inbox,
tap Messaging>Inbox.

Note: To use the browser, you must have data service
activated for your account (additional fees may apply
for this service).
Use your phones browser to surf your favourite
websites, upload videos to a video blog and download
files and applications to your phone. Log in to your
internet-based email account to check your email.
Find it: Internet service
To go to your homepage, tapHomepage.
To go to a web page, tapInput address.
To bookmark a web page, tapOptions>Add to bookmark.
To go to a link on a web page, tap it.Note: If you cant connect, contact your service
provider.

Bluetooth wirelesslose the wires and go wireless
Turn Bluetooth power on or off
Find it: > Settings>Connectivity>Bluetooth>Power
When Bluetooth power is on, the Bluetooth
indicator will appear in the home screen.
Note: To extend battery life, turn off Bluetooth powerwhen not in use.
Connect new devices
To connect with a new device, you need to pair with it.
You only need to do this once for each device to
connect again, see Reconnect devices on page 21.
1 Make sure that the device that you are pairing withis in discoverable mode (see device instructions).
2 Tap > Settings>Connectivity>Bluetooth>Search audio device.
Note: If Bluetooth power is not turned on, your
phone will ask if you want to Power onBluetooth first?TapYes.
3 Your phone will list the devices that it finds withinrange. Tap a device to connect.

Personaliseadd your personal touch
Add widgets
1 Find an empty spot on your home screen where you
want to add a widget. You can flick left or right to
see other panels on your home screen.
2 Tap and hold the empty spot until you see the
Add widgetmenu.3 Tap a widget, such as Analogue clock, Date,
Memo, Slide show, Audio playerand more.
4 Tap Ok.
To move a widget, tap and hold it, then drag the
widget to where you want it.
To delete a widget, drag it to the bin .
Profiles
Your phone has different profiles. You can customise
ringtones, alerts and volumes for each profile.
Find it: > User profiles
You can select these profiles:
General: Standard profile default setting. Meeting: Ringtone is off, vibrate is on.

maximum. Indoor: Vibrate is off, ringtone is on.

To changea profiles settings, tap Options>Customise. You can adjust these settings:
Tone settings: Set the ringtones for incoming callsand messages (for each SIM card, EX128 only), key
tones and other events.
Volume: Set the volume of ringtones and keytones.
Alert type
: Set toRing only

,Vib. andring, Vib. then ring.
Ring type: Set to Single, Repeat, Ascending.
Extra tone: Play an extra tone for Warning, Error,Camp onor Connect.
Display settings

When you select a text entry option, your phone will
open a touchscreen keypad.
To changethe keypad text entry mode, tapOptions>Input method. You can select these input methods:
ABC: Enter capital letters in the text field.
abc: Enter lowercase letters in the text field. Numeric: Enter numbers in the text field.
Insert symbol: Select a symbol to insert.
To deleteletters to the left of the cursor, tap .

Lock touchscreen & keys
Find it: > Settings>Security settings>Auto keypad lock>5 sec, 30 sec, 1 min, or 5 min
You can lock your phones touchscreen and keys to
prevent unwanted phone operations.
Your phone will lock the touchscreen and keysautomatically when no activity is detected for the
specified interval.
To unlockthe touchscreen and keys, press
Power/Lock and follow the on-screen instructions.

Crash recovery
In the unlikely event that your phone stops responding
to taps and key presses, try a quick reset. Remove
the back cover and battery (Assemble & charge on
page 4), then replace them and turn on your phone
as usual.
Reset
Reset default factory settings on your phone.
Caution: This option erases all information that you
have entered (including contacts and calendar entries)
as well as content that you have downloaded
(including pictures, videos and music files) stored in
your phones memory. Once you have erased thisinformation, you cannot recover it. This option does
not delete SIM card or memory card information.
Find it: > Settings>Restore factory settings, then enter 1234

Motorolaspecifically disclaims any responsibility for any damage, whetheror not to Motorola equipment, caused in any way by the use of thePersonal Communicator, accessories, software applications andperipherals (specific examples include, but are not limited to:batteries, chargers, adapters, and power supplies) when suchaccessories, software applications and peripherals are notmanufactured and supplied by Motorola.
What is not covered by the warrantyThis warranty is not valid if the defects are due to damage,misuse, tampering, neglect or lack of care and in case ofalterations or repair carried out by unauthorised persons.The following are examples of defects or damage not covered bythis product warranty:1. Defects or damage resulting from use of the Product in other
than its normal and customary manner.2. Defects or damage from misuse, access to incompatible
sources, accident or neglect.3. Defects or damage from improper testing, operation,
maintenance, installation, adjustment, unauthorised softwareapplications or any alteration or modification of any kind.
4. Breakage or damage to antennas unless caused directly bydefects in material or workmanship.
5. Products disassembled or repaired other than by Motorola insuch a manner as to adversely affect performance or preventadequate inspection and testing to verify any warranty claim.
6. Defects or damage due to range, coverage, availability, grade ofservice, or operation of the cellular system by the cellularoperator.
7. Defects or damage due to moisture, liquid or spills of food.

8. Control unit coil cords in the Product that are stretched or have
the modular tab broken.9. All plastic surfaces and all other externally exposed parts thatare scratched or damaged due to customer normal use.
10.Leather cases (which are covered under separatemanufacturer's warranties).
11.Products rented on a temporary basis.12.Periodic maintenance and repair or replacement of parts due to
normal wear and tear.Note: The talk-time, stand-by time and total life cycle of aMotorola rechargeable battery for your Personal Communicatorwill depend on usage conditions and network configurations. As aconsumable product, the specifications indicate that you shouldbe able to obtain optimum performance for your MotorolaPersonal Communicator within the first six months from date ofpurchase and up to (200) charges (Optimum Performance Time).The warranty for Motorola rechargeable batteries becomes void if(i) the batteries are charged other than by Motorola approvedbattery chargers specified for the charging of the battery, (ii) anyof the seals on the battery are broken or show evidence of
tampering, (iii) the battery is used in equipment or service otherthan the cellular telephone equipment for which it is specified.Depending on operating conditions and your usage habits, wearand tear might take place of components including mechanicalproblems related to Product housing, paint, assembly,sub-assemblies, displays and keyboards and any accessorieswhich are not part of the Product's in-box configuration. Therectification of faults generated through wear and tear and the useof consumable items like batteries beyond their OptimumPerformance Time as indicated in the product manual isconsidered to be your responsibility and therefore Motorola willnot provide the free Warranty repair service for these items.
