I moved from Korea to the USA when I was 14 years old. The first few weeks were great everythingwas exciting and different. oing to the s!"ermarkets was an advent!re# the foods were all new to me and

everything was so $ig% The $iggest c!lt!re shock for me was going to high school. &irst of all' I looked

different. All the other girls looked so m!ch older than me. They wore make(u" and colored their hair. And I

never went to a school with $oys $efore. So the first thing I did to try to fit in was have a perm. I also started

wearing make(!"' $!t I wasn)t very good at "!tting it on. *y eye(liner always seemed to smudgeand my

li"stick was always the wrong color. I loved nail "olish tho!gh. I !sed to wear different colors on each finger. I

also got my ears "ierced.

I fo!nd Americans a lot more o"en than Koreans. +hen I ate my dinner in the cafeteria' I always tried

to ignore the $oys and girls kissing each other over the ta$le. ,eo"le don)t do that in Korea. I fo!nd it hard to

eat my dinner% The other thing I fo!nd hard was holding hands -or not holding hands. In Korea girls hold

hands with girls' $!t in America "eo"le think that)s really weird. Instead girls hold hands with their $oyfriends.

I tho!ght that was really weird% I wasn)t cool either. In Korea it)s good to $e clever and do well at school' $!t inAmerica I was a nerd for liking st!dy -and I wore glasses' which made it worse. I fo!nd making friends really

hard.
