Please pray for members of our parish and community who have asked for our prayers:

The parish bulletin that you read is produced each week with a lot of time and creative energy. It is one manner of communication with parishioners at large of the many activities and services provided in our Carnegie, Green Tree and Scott grouping. For many years Rory Mitrik (SSJ), Emily Pino (SMOS), & Mary Kay Smith (SEAS), have thoughtfully and creatively provided us with their respective parish bulletins. I am grateful to each of them for what they have accomplished to “get the word out”. With this bulletin, we combine efforts and focus energy on ONE bulletin each week. All news from every parish in the grouping will be seen in this format. There will no longer be a need to have a bulletin “from your church” in order to have its information. As time progresses, we will enhance all of our already used “platforms” (Facebook, Twitter, Flock Notes, Website) in order to provide you with the easiest manner to find and share parish information. Additionally, a grouping wide phone system will soon be in place so that you will be able, with better ease, to contact any one who is a member of the grouping staff. Your patience and encouragement during these times of transition are appreciated!

PLEASE PRAY FOR THE SOULS OF THE FAITHFUL DEPARTED

PRAYER & WORSHIP

Today on Pentecost Sunday - the 50th day of Easter, our parish combined choir and contemporary are singing one last time before our summer break, which lasts until after Labor Day. I wish to thank our dedicated choir members and musicians from both groups, as with their joyful hearts and spirit-filled songs we

have offered our fervent prayer to the Almighty Triune God. Our goal as music ministers, is to help you pray too, but your participation with us and by your ears praying along with us when we sing a special choir piece. Thank you for your support in prayers and by your words of kindness and appreciation. God bless you. As Johann Sebastian Bach best said “Soli Deo Gloria-to God Alone be the glory”. St. Cecilia - patroness of musicians - pray for us! —Béla Pater

ORDER OF WORSHIP

FIRST READING | ACTS 2:1-11 When the time for Pentecost was fulfilled, they were all in one place together. And suddenly there came from the sky a noise like a strong driving wind, and it filled the entire house in which they were. Then there appeared to them tongues as of fire, which parted and came to rest on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in different tongues, as the Spirit enabled them to proclaim. Now there were devout Jews from every nation under heaven staying in Jerusalem. At this sound, they gathered in a large crowd, but they were confused

because each one heard them speaking in his own language. They were astounded, and in amazement they asked, "Are not all these people who are speaking Galileans? Then how does each of us hear them in his native language? We are Parthians, Medes, and Elamites, inhabitants of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the districts of Libya near Cyrene, as well as travelers from Rome, both Jews and converts to Judaism, Cretans and Arabs, yet we hear them speaking in our own tongues of the mighty acts of God."

RESPONSORIAL PSALM | PS 104:1, 24, 29-30, 31, 34

The word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

SECOND READING | 1 COR 12:3B-7, 12-13 Brothers and sisters: No one can say, "Jesus is Lord," except by the Holy Spirit. There are different kinds of spiritual gifts but the same Spirit; there are different forms of service but the same Lord; there are different workings but the same God who produces all of them in everyone.

To each individual the manifestation of the Spirit is given for some benefit. As a body is one though it has many parts, and all the parts of the body, though many, are one body, so also Christ. For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, slaves or free persons, and we were all given to drink of one Spirit.

The word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

ORDER OF WORSHIP

GOSPEL | JN 14:15-16, 23B-26 On the evening of that first day of the week, when the doors were locked, where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in their midst and said to them, "Peace be with you." When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side.

The disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord. Jesus said to them again, "Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you." And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, "Receive the Holy Spirit. Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them, and whose sins you retain are retained."

The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

PROFESSION OF FAITH I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible.

I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven,

and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. I believe in one, holy, catholic, and apostolic Church. I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.

SUMMER WITH THE SA INTS This coming Thursday afternoon we continue our Summer With The Saints series. This time we'll have

some delightful learning about St. Thomas Aquinas, someone we often hear tidbits about, but whom we

probably don't really know much about. Don't be intimidated by his spiritual stature! Bishop Barron tells

us: "With all his heart, Thomas Aquinas wanted nothing other than Christ, nothing more or less than

Christ." Come and enjoy some light learning! Each Thursday session is 'stand-alone', so no need to worry

if you'll need to miss some of them.

Bring your own lunch and meet us in the St. Maximilian Kolbe Room at 1:00 p.m., any/all Thursdays

(except for July 4), ending on July 18th. Iced tea, lemonade, and light desserts will be provided!

For planning purposes, please contact Tess by email: [email protected].

RCIA THE BREATH OF THE HOLY SPIRIT Perhaps if you are still and quiet you might feel the breath of God’s love. The Holy Spirit comes when least expected and touches one’s life. A change may then occur in how one views God and Jesus and life through the Spirit. That Spirit could possi-bly nudge you to want to learn more about how God works in your life and, we believe, in the life of God’s people, the Church. Now if you would like to avail yourself of the opportunity for entering or investi-gating deeper that intimacy that the Holy Spirit promises, why not give the RCIA team a chance to enter the journey with you? Call Dee Fitzsimmons at the Office for the Rite of Christian Initiation at 412-276-1011 ext. 225, (email [email protected]). Open sessions are held each Tuesday evening, 7 to 8:30 pm, at Grouping #210: St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church.

NEWS AND NOTES

Receive the Holy Spirit – After his resurrection from the dead Jesus appears to his anxious Apostles and, knowing their fear and uncertainty, pours forth the Holy Spirit upon them and bestows his gift of peace. For the next forty days he promises that he will be with them always and that he will send the Advocate to be with them as they will be called to continue his work in the world. Finally, after

ascending to heaven, Jesus sends forth his Spirit at Pentecost to fill the Apostles with confidence and courage in order to go out to all the world to tell the good news and grow the Church. As the On Mission for The Church Alive! initiative continues to unfold we are called to prayer for a new Pentecost in the Church of Pittsburgh. This new outpouring of the Holy Spirit can bestow the peace we seek in the midst of change and planning for the future. God’s Spirit can also fill us with the confidence and courage that all of us – clergy and faithful alike – will need to do our part to build up the Church and make it ever more alive! Visit onmissionchurchalive.org to learn more and to stay informed.

PRIESTHOOD ORDINATION: Celebrate with the entire Church of Pittsburgh as four men are ordained priests on Saturday, June 29, 2019, at 10:00 am, in Saint Paul Cathedral, Pittsburgh. Please pray for Brendan Dawson, Timothy Deely, David Egan and Mingwei Li as they prepare for this joyous day on which they will become priests in service of our Church. CGS CATHOLIC PARISHES

O God, who by the mystery of today’s great feast sanctify your whole Church in every people and nation,

pour out, we pray, the gifts of the Holy Spirit across the face of the earth and, with the divine grace that was at work when the Gospel was first proclaimed,

fill now once more the hearts of believers. — Pentecost Collect Prayer Pentecost, the coming of the promised Holy Spirit, is one of the big mysteries of our faith because it proclaims not something natural, but something super-natural. When we believe supernatural

happenings, we believe them ‘in faith’ because our human minds don’t have the ability to understand them in the natural realm. Our ‘Collect’ prayer at Mass on the Feast of Pentecost says that God makes the Church - that would be us - holy and set apart. In that same prayer, we ask God to pour out the gifts of the Holy Spirit (wisdom, understanding, fortitude, knowledge, piety, counsel, and fear of the Lord) across the face of the earth (that’d be us, again!), and to fill our hearts with grace (grace = Christ in us). So, do we believe that God will answer this prayer? Do we believe that these gifts will be poured out across the earth, including on us? And do we believe that our hearts will be filled with this grace? If so, if we really believe this, then Christ WILL be in us, and in addition to having him we’ll also have all of the gifts we need to do the works of Pentecost: we’ll go out to the world as Jesus was sent, we’ll proclaim the Gospel, and we’ll speak of the mighty acts of God. Let’s do it! Let’s believe and then go!

“Be who God meant you to be and you will set the world on fire!” — St. Catherine of Siena

CONTEMPORARY MASS

ENTRANCE HYMN | HOLY SPIRIT, COME NOW JESSE MANIBUSAN

1. Oh, the sweetness of your mercy and grace!

Bring us true wisdom right here in this place.

Bring a glimmer of the depth of God’s will.

Bring understanding; God’s plan be fulfilled.

2. In the faith we share, flowing from truth,

bring us the knowledge that brings us to you.

Through the darkness of despair and of fear,

give us the courage to know you are here.

3. With the rev’rence of the Lord, love is shown.

Serving each other, God’s presence is known.

Oh, the goodness and the glory of God!

Hearts overflowing with wonder and awe.

The order of the Mass and readings begin on page 5.

Come, Holy Spirit, come! And from your celestial home Shed a ray of light divine! Come, Father of the poor! Come, source of all our store! Come, within our bosoms shine. You, of comforters the best; You, the soul's most welcome guest; Sweet refreshment here below; In our labor, rest most sweet;

Grateful coolness in the heat; Solace in the midst of woe. O most blessed Light divine, Shine within these hearts of yours, And our inmost being fill! Where you are not, we have naught, Nothing good in deed or thought, Nothing free from taint of ill. Heal our wounds, our strength renew; On our dryness pour your dew;

Wash the stains of guilt away: Bend the stubborn heart and will; Melt the frozen, warm the chill; Guide the steps that go astray. On the faithful, who adore And confess you, evermore In your sevenfold gift descend; Give them virtue's sure reward; Give them your salvation, Lord; Give them joys that never end. Amen.
