O r i c u m a r fi, l u c r u l s ' a f ă c u t ca toata s e n i n ă t a t e a c a r a c t e r i s t i c ă ş i , fiindcă s'a f ă c u t , i a t ă a t â t e a a l t e g e n e r a ţ i i solidari, z â n d u - s e , p r i n c e a l a l t ă l i p s ă de recunoş­t i n ţ ă , t i m p d e 40 d e a n i , c u aceea caret n u t u t s ă - ş i i a r ă s p u n d e r e a u n e i astfel de f a p t e .

A m . p r i n u r m a r e , d r e p t u l să deduc li. j n i ş t i t c ă n i c i f a ţ ă d e I. C r e a n g ă n'am fos t p r e a g e n e r o ş i ?

Ş i s ă n u s e u i t e u n l u c r u : această g e n e r o z i t a t e n ' a r fi f o s t d e loc gratuită, n i c i î n t r i t o t u l n e j u s t i f i c a t ă .

C a l i t ă ţ i l e s a l e p r o f e s i o n a l e (vezi: Mii s i u n e a p r e o t u l u i l a s a t e ) o îndreptăţiau c u p r i s o s i n ţ ă : p r e o t l u m i n a t şi conşt i l c i o s , p e d a g o g e m e r i t ş i î n curent cu' n o u i l e î n d r u m ă r i d i d a c t i c e — Creangă p u t e a fi l ă s a t î n l i n i ş t e să -ş i exercite, p e n t r u b i n e l e ţ ă r i i n o a s t r e , cele două p r o f e s i u n i . I n d e s f ă ş u r a r e a lor nu putea l ă s a n i m i c d e d o r i t .

C u a t â t m a i p u ţ i n şi î n cea la l tă carie.; r ă — p u b l i c i s t i c ă - l i t e r a r ă — care 1-a ri.j d i c a t a t â t d e s u s .

N a t u r a l c ă , n i c i d e d a t a aceasta,nu p u t e m fi n e d r e p ţ i . S ' a t r e c u t cu vederea p e s t e o b u n ă j i a r t e d i n a c t i v i t a t e a seriei a l u i C r e a n g ă . S ' a r e n u n ţ a t astfel la s c r i e r i l e s a l e d i d a c t i c e î n măsură să-1 î n c a d r e z e | r i n t r e p i o n i i a c e s t e i literaturi l a n o i . S ' a c r e z u t c ă î n t o c m i r e a unui bun m a n u a l e r a a t u n c i o t r e a b ă uşoară ţi d e . a i c i a c e a c o n d a m n a b i l ă tăcere asupra; a c e s t u i c a p i t o l p e c a r e , t o t u ş i , glasul u-n u i a d i n t r e c o n t i m p o r a n i , a încercat să-i l i m p e z e a s c ă . Iată, aşa dar, două titluri incontesta­bile.

Sa nu se uite însă că l a acestea s e a-jaogă cu mândrie al treilea, c e l m a i per­manent, cel mai neîndoios acela de ş l e ­fuitor neîntrecut al cuvântului, concluzie ci care ne duce cunoaşterea aprofunda­ţi a nemuritoarei sale opere literare, for­mată din snoave, fabule, anecdote, bas­me şi î n deosebi amintir i î n c a r e a ră­mas neîntrecut, unicul creiator a l genu­lui — fără să mă gândesc la versurile pe care le-a scris, la fragmentele pe care le-a cules din popor, l a atâta bogăţie de scrieri (printre care ş i o comedie) tre­cute din mână î n mână ş i — l a urmă - pierdute pentru totdeauna.

I Fireşte c ă rostul acestui articol nu poate fi o analiză, chiar sumară, a per­

manentului din opera literară a lui (Creangă. E l trebue să accentueze totuşi llouă laturi în care a rămas neîntre-Itut : basmele care, să nu se uite, î n nici Im caz nu pot fi s o c o t i t e simple cule­geri, ci adevărate creaţiuni î n care spi-Iritul artistic, a l autorului prelucrează, lilát materialul oferit de fantázia ş i via-|a poporului, cât mai ales ha ina lin-piistică. Ş i că loan C r e a n g ă , care, toată liaţa, a ştiut să r ămână ţăran, î n ţ e l e -lea totuşi rostul adevăratei arte, se poa­le vedea din atâtea alte împrejurări : I Din chipul cum î ş i şlefueşte stilul, din Iredileeţia pentru anumite expresiuni iline de sevă poetică, din oroarea faţă le altele p r e a reci sau p r e a comune, •lin rolul pe care-1 acordă el, î n critică, Imului simţ poporan, din g r i j a cu care înlătură — din basme — limba origi-lară э celor de jos, înlocuind-o, tocmai •pentru a le da pecetia originalităţii ar-Istice, prin alta, tot atât de poporană, •să mai colorată, mai- plastică. I Şi lucrurile merg ş i mai departe, dacă le referim la limba amintirilor din co­pane — unde povestitorul î ş i alege ca Ibioct propria viaţă, iar ca mediu — că­itul rustic al satului moldovenesc. S'ar litea zice că e subiectiv, acuzaţiune care, Iacă poate conveni prozei l u i Vlahuţă, Iu poate fi concepută î n legătură cu la mai însemnată operă a povestito-lliii din Humuleşti. llntr'adevăr — calmul seninătatea, de-Ijarea cu care I . C r e a n g ă î ş i zugră-kte propriile sburdălnicii, chiar cu fioul de a ni s e înfăţişa oarecum an-•atic din punct de vedere educativ — I dau pe faţă tocmai obiectivitatea sa Impieta, desăvârşită. Jean Cocteau Acum câţiva ani, Cocteau a descoperit şi a prezentat publicului un

copil precoce şi talentat, care avea pe „dracul în trup": Raymond Radiguet. In lumea literară el apăru, străluci, se stinse, lunecând ca o stea

delà lumină sclipitoare la bezna veşnică (Raymond Radiguet : Le Diable au Corps, Le Bal du Comte d'Orgel, Les Joues en feu).

Cine ar putea să afle, — cu siguranţă, precis nu ştie nici însăşi Cocleau, prin ce proces de incubaţie inspirativă, prin ce schimburi tăi­nuite de valori spirituale şi pilde vizual constatate, au luat fiinţă copiii săi de azi. Nu întruchipaţi în carne şi oase, dar vii, întârziaţi în arena copilărie, şi având pe dracul în suflet.

Tragică e povestea „tânărului de zăpadă" şi a „fecioarei de fer". Ea va fi urmărită cu interes intensiv de oricine a visat vreodată

cu ochii deschişi. Acela va păşi în fenomenala „cameră-univers" cu ne­dumerire, se poate, dar cuvioasă şl cu nervi încordaţi de atenţie. Va tremura desigur mâna care întoarce paginile, — sângeroase, sălbatice petale ale unei flori suave şi monstruoase, dar nu-i va scăpa până la sfârşitul slovei din urmă, cartea in care palpită atât de groaznic : viaţă, vis.
