Crucii Tale ne Închinăm, Hristoase!
În fiecare zi de vineri, creștinul ortodox retrăiește
alături de Hristos răstignirea Domnului. Facem aceasta
prin post și rugăciune, reflectând la însemnătatea
Jertfei lui Hristos, pentru noi înșine. Totodată,
acum, la început de an bisericesc, Sfânta Biserică
reafirmă Taina Crucii, serbând înălțarea ei. După ce
acest scump odor al creștinătății fusese răpită de
musulmani, în anul 629 A.D., ea a fost redobândită
prin luptă și înălțată cu nespusă bucurie de Patriarhul
Ierusalimului, în văzul poporului. Acest altar de jertfă,
sfințit cu sângele Domnului Iisus Hristos, este nu doar
stindardul care unește pe cei credincioși, ci este cea mai
eficientă armă de luptă duhovnicească împotriva
diavolului. De aceea, ne închinăm și cântăm cu bucurie
înaintea ei: ”Crucii Tale ne închinăm Hristoase și sfântă
Învierea Ta o lăudăm și o mărim.”
Pentru tine, Creștine, ce înseamnă Crucea? Hristos
ne spune că dacă nu ne luăm crucea și nu-I urmăm Lui,
nu suntem vrednici de El (Mt. 10,38). Tot El ne spune
că dacă prețuim mai mult sufletul nostru îl vom pierde.
Iar dacă ne vom pierde sufletul dăruindu-ni-l lui Hristos,
atunci îl vom dobândi (Mt. 10,39). În alte cuvinte, acest
paradox ne învață și pe noi însemnătatea Crucii, sau a
jertfirii de sine. Nimeni nu este Creștin adevărat dacă nu
jertfește și nu se jertfește pe sine pentru semenii săi (In.
15,13). De aceea, în Biserică, adică în Impărăția lui
Dumnezeu, noi suntem chemați să trăim sensul iubirii
jertfelnice până la punctul când să ne lepădăm de noi
înșine și să-L primim pe Hristos să trăiască în noi,
dăruindu-ne cu altruism.
Crucea ne evocă iubirea răstignită a lui Hristos
pentru noi. De aceea purtăm cruce pe piept, ne
însemnăm cu semnul ei sau chiar o sărutăm.

We Worship Your Cross, O Christ!
Every Friday, the Orthodox Christian lives again,
together with Christ, the crucifixion. We do this by
fasting and praying, meditating on the meaning
of Christ’s sacrifice for us. At the same time,
now, at the beginning of the new church year, the Holy
Church reaffirms the Mystery of the Cross, celebrating
its Elevation. This precious spiritual treasure of the
Church had been looted by the muslims in the year 629
AD and was regained with heroism by the emperor of
Constantinople. The Cross was solemnly lifted by the
Patriarch of Jerusalem in the sight of the people. Ever
since, this Altar of sacrifice, that is the Cross, sanctified
with the Blood of the Lord Jesus Christ is not just the flag
that rallies the believers, but it is, as well, the most efficient
spiritual arm in the battle against evil. For this reason, we
worship it and joyfully sing before it: “We venerate Your
Cross, O, Christ, and we praise and glorify Your
resurrection!”
What does the Cross mean for us, dear friends? Jesus
tells us that unless we take our cross and follow Him we are
not worthy of Him (Mt. 10,38). He tells us also that if we
treasure our own soul we shall lose it, but if we lose our
soul by offering it to Christ, then we shall gain it (Mt.
10,39). In other words, this paradox teaches us the meaning
of the Cross as a personal sacrifice. No one is a genuine
Christian unless he sacrifices and offers himself for his
neighbor (Jn. 15,13). For this reasons, in the Church, we are
called to live the Christian love to the point that we deny
our own interest, offer ourselves altruistically to others and
allow Christ to live within us.
Thus, the Cross evokes the crucified love of Christ for
us. This is why we bare a cross on the chest, we sign
ourselves with the cross and even kiss it.

Holy Bread Maker / PRESCURĂRIŢA
Our Prosphora Maker, Mrs. Floare PETRE, who
baked the Prescuri (Altar Bread) for our church for
the last nine years announced us that she cannot
continue to make it due to health reasons. We would
like to thank her for her reliability and diligence
throughout all these years and we wish her good
health from the Lord!
We are welcoming the new Prescurăriţa, Mrs. Maria
Tent, Co-Vice President of the Ladies Auxiliary.
Maria needs no introduction because she is well
known for her activity in the Auxiliary, Ladies
Auxiliary and langosh (scoverzi) maker at festivals.
We wish her good health to work in this capacity for
many years!

Socotim că, astfel, ne afirmăm prețuirea pe
care o avem pentru Cel ce S-a dăruit pe Sine
pe Cruce, împlinindu-Și menirea de Salvator.
Creștinismul devine profund atuinci când ne
asumăm crucea și ne identificăm cu Crucea
Domnului, astfel încât prin suferința asumată,
devenim și noi vrednici să fim ucenici ai lui
Hristos. Crucea, deci, ne cheamă la urmare
sinceră. Creștinul adevărat așteaptă răsplata
veșnică, pe care nădăjduim să o primim atunci
când, tot Crucea, în baia de lacrimi a întregii
lumi, va anunța sfârșitul lumii și venirea a doua a
Domnului (Mt. 24,30).
În 14 septembrie, când se va înălța Crucea în biserici,
să dea Domnul ca ea să se înalțe și în fiecare inimă! Aici,
în parohia noastră, vom cunoaște efectul acestei bucurii
prin faptele bune pe care fiecare dintre noi le va săvârși
spre lauda Domnului! Faptele sunt dovada credinței și
roadele Duhului Sfânt care lucrează în noi.
Vă chem, deci, la închinare înaintea Crucii Domnului!
Vă chem să vă luați Crucea, lepădându-vă de omul cel
lumesc! Perspectiva morții pe care ne-o pune înainte
pandemia are trebui să fie trezirea noastră! Bucuria vederii
Sfintei Cruci să devină calea de lumină și de scăpare de
frica morții pentru toți! În troparul Sfintei Cruci, cântăm:
”Mântuiește, Doamne, poporul Tău și binecuvîntează
moștenirea Ta. Biruință binecredincioșilor creștini asupra
celui potrivnic dăruiește și cu Crucea Ta păzește pe
poporul Tău!”. Să ne căim de păcatele noastre, să primim
Trupul și Sângele Domnului și să-l cântăm cu încredințarea
că prin Iisus Hristos, Biruitorul morții, vom birui și noi
tenebrele, încercările și ispitele acestui veac!
Ajută-ne, Doamne, să ne lepădăm de noi înșine, să ne
luăm Crucea, închinându-ne Ție, și să Te urmăm cu
credință!

We Worship Your Cross, O Christ!
By this behavior we affirm our love for the
Cross and for Him Who offered Himself on it,
fulfiling His purpose as our Savior. Our
Christian faith becomes truly profound only
when we assume our Cross and identify
ourselves with the Cross of the Lord. This
way, through the assumed suffering, we
become worthy to be disciples of Christ. The
Cross calls us to a sincere discipleship. A
genuine Christian, then, hopes to receive his
eternal reward on that day when, the sign of
the Cross will announce the second coming of Christ, the
end of this world and when all nations shall weep (Mt. 24,
30).
On September 14, when the Cross will be lifted up in
our churches, may every heart be lifted up with it! Here, in
our parish, we shall come to know the effects of this joy by
the good deeds that each one of us will do for the praise of
God. Our deeds are the evidence of our faith and the fruits
of the Holy Spirit that works within us.
I am calling you to venerate the Cross of the Lord! I
am calling you to take your Cross and deny your worldly
self! The perspective of death risen by this pandemic may
be toward our awakening! May the joy of the sight of the
Cross be for each of you the path to Light and the
liberation from the fear of death! In the tropar of the Holy
Cross, we sing: “O Lord save you people and bless your
heritage. Grant victory to the Orthodox Christians over
the enemy and by virtue of your Cross preserve your
habitation!”
Let us repent of our sins, receive the Body and Blood
of Christ and let us sing it with the assurance that through
Christ, the conqueror of death, we shall also overcome the
darkness, trials and temptations of this age!
O Lord, help us to deny ourselves, to take our own
Cross, worshiping and following You with faith!

SUNDAY SCHOOL INFORMATION
„IN PERSON” OR „EMAIL” EDUCATION?
At the beginning of September, we sent a letter to the Sunday School
parents asking if they opt for in person schooling or education via
email. (Education by e-mail implies a close cooperation between
church, teachers and families). So far, we only received 15 answers. 9
are for education by email and 6 for in person education. Last years
we had 68 children registered. The others did not yet respond. Though
we realize this has to do with the pandemic, this gives us sufficient
reasons to be concerned. We kindly ask all parents to respond so that
we may make a decision.
SUNDAY SCHOOL REGISTRATION
We invite ALL parents to register their children in Sunday School!
Please, see the registration form below. Especially if we need to do
education via email, we need the registration and your email.
We urge all parents to send us their response so that we could act
timely and for the good of our children! Thank You!

Saint Mary AROY Meeting
We invite all our youth grades 8-12 to
participate at a Pizza Sunday, September 27,
at 12 noon. The get together will be by the
Caritatea Pavilion. We will discuss the
schedule of events and discuss how the
pandemic is affecting our youth. Together
with Ioana Băncescu and Natalia Durleșteanu,
we will also get the chance to talk to our new
youth adviser, Chaz Ikes. Please, mark your
calendar and join us!
NEW YOUTH ADVISER
Our AROY chapter is currently supervised by
Ioana Băncescu and Natalia Durleșteanu. This
fall, Father Remus Grama is bringing aboard
Chaz Ikes, a young man and convert to the
faith, who intends to study Theology. His
phone number is (216)-372-6217. We wish
Chaz and the other advisers good results in
their church work and pray for all our youth.
From the Parish Council
Sixteen Council members met with Father this past
Wednesday in a regular meeting where planned and
approved church activities. We took note with
Thanksgiving of the good results of the Festival. The total
income was 47,833 of which 66% was profit. Keeping in
mind the needs of the church, the Council approved the
following Fall fund-raisers:
1. Langosh making, on September 26-27.
2. Fish Fry ”To Go”, Friday, October 2 from 5-7:30 PM.
Chairpersons: Pauline Trutza, Viorel Oancea & Vasile
Peicu.
3. Langosh making November 7.
The Council took note with joy of the good organization of
the Festival and sends our Thank You to all who
supported. This year, our members sent almost $10,000 in
donations. We were pleased of the results and the sound
fellowship experiences by our volunteers. The parish
AROY and children were truly impressive and we bless
them!
The Council appreciated that we should continue with the
current practice of health measures.
We took note of the many activities and efforts stimulated
by our members; we welcome the new cantor, Gerald
Largent, the new Prescurărița, Maria Tent and the new
AROY co-adviser, Chaz Ikes.
The Council needs volunteers to help our Building
Committee. If interested to help, please, contact the office
or the Prish Council President, Viorel Oancea.
FINANȚELE PAROHIEI
Absența întâlnirilor la o cafea și a meselor tradiționale,
ne lipsește pe toți de bucuria de a fi împreună. Mulți
membri ne-au ajutat să organizăm Festivalul Drive-Thru
și continuă să trimită săptămânal expresia lor de
credință și dragoste prin donațiile lor. Am observat că
mulți dintre membri și-au plătit cotizația anuală și vă
mulțumim. În absența meselor parohiale, sperăm ca
doamnele de la Reuniunea Femeilor și Consiliul
parohial să vină cu mijloace inovatoare pentru a strânge
fonduri. Deocamdată continuăm să funcționăm în modul
de supraviețuire.
PANDEMIC CHALENGES TO OUR PARISH
CHURCH LIFE
The life of all churches is deeply impacted by the Sars-2
Covid-19 pandemic. In our church, we now have
regular services, of course, with the observance of the
CDC rules (distance, masks and sanitizing). Under these
circumstances, our attendance suffers greatly and we
miss all of you who cannot be in church. Our choir
cannot sing at this time, but we are blessed that Deacon
Nick Neagoe helps us with the chanting as a cantor.
Gerald Largent, a graduate of Baldwin Wallace College,
was retained as a Cantor and some other faithful are
learning the responses to the Liturgy. A Bible study is
offered every other week by Chaz Ikes and Father.
Council meetings are held, most of the time, in person.
PARISH FINANCES
The absence of coffee hours and dinners deprives us all
of our traditional communal joy. Many members helped
us hold our Drive-Thru Festival and continue to send
their weekly expression of faith and love, by means of
their donations. We noticed that many of you have paid
your annual parish dues and we Thank You. In the
absence of parish dinners, we hope the Council and
Ladies Auxiliary will come up with inovative means to
raise funds. For the time being we continue to function
in survival mode.
VIAȚA BISERICII
Situația tuturor bisericilor este profund afectată de pandemia
Sars-2 Covid-19. În biserica noastră, acum avem slujbe
regulate, desigur, cu respectarea regulilor CDC (distanță,
măști și igienizare). În aceste condiții, prezența noastră
suferă foarte mult și ne este dor de toți cei care nu puteți fi în
biserică. Corul nu poate cânta în acest moment, dar suntem
binecuvântați că diaconul Nick Neagoe ne ajută cu
răspunsurile ca și cantor. Gerald Largent, absolvent al
Colegiului Baldwin Wallace, a fost angajat ca și cantor, iar
alți credincioși învață răspunsurile la Liturghie. Un studiu
biblic este oferit la fiecare două săptămâni de Chaz Ikes și de
Părintele. Ședințele Consiliului se țin, de cele mai multe ori,
personal.
