PRAZNICUL ACOPERĂMÂNTULUI
MAICII DOMNULUI Din Prologul de la Ohrida, al Sf. Nicolae Velimirovich
Biserica a premărit dintotdeauna pe Prea Sfânta Maică a
Domnului ca Ocrotitoare și Apărătoare a neamului
Creștinesc, rugându-o ca să mijlocească mila lui
Dumnezeu peste noi. Ajutorul Maicii Domnului s-a
dovedit de nenumărate ori când, atât persoane fizice cât
și popoare întregi, atât în timp de război, cât și de pace,
atât în mănăstiri cât și în orașe aglomerate. Acest
praznic al Bisericii retrăiește în 1 octombrie și dovedește
neîntrerupta grijă a Maicii Domnului față de poporul
Creștin. În 1 octombrie, anul 911, pe vremea
Împăratului Leon cel Înțelept (Filosoful), a avut loc o
priveghere de toată noaptea în biserica Blacherne din
Constantinopol. Biserica era aglomerată. Sf. Andrei cel
Nebun pentru Hristos stătea în spatele bisericii cu
ucenicul său Epifanie. La ora patru dimineața,
Preasfânta Maică a Domnului a apărut deasupra
poporului având un voal peste mâinile sale întinse, ca și
cum îl ocrotea cu acest acoperământ. Era îmbrăcată în
mov cu fir de aur care strălucea negrăit de radios, fiind
înconjurat de Apostoli, sfinți, mucenici și fecioare.
Văzând apariția, Sf. Andrei a arătat-o printr-un gest
întrebând pe Epifanie: “Vezi cum Împărăteasa și
Doamna tuturor se roagă pentru toată lumea?” Epifanie
i-a raspuns: “Da, Părinte, o văd și mă cutremur.” Ca
rezultat, această comemorare a fost introdusă ca să ne
aducă aminte de acest moment și de permanenta ocrotire
a Maicii Domnului, atunci când îi cerem ajutorul în
rugăciune și ocrotirea în necazuri.

THE FEAST OF THE PROTECTION OF THE MOTHER OF GOD

The Church has always glorified the Most Holy Mother of
God as the Protectress and Defender of the Christian
people, entreating, by her intercession, God's loving-
kindness towards us sinners. +The Mother of God's aid has
been clearly shown times without number, both to
individuals and to people, both in peace and in war, both in
monastic deserts and in crowded cities. The event that the
Church commemorates and celebrates on October 1
[October 14, Civil Calendar] proves this constant protection
of the Christian people by the Mother of God. On October
1st, 911, in the time of the Emperor Leo the Wise (or the
Philosopher), there was an all-night vigil at the Blachemae
church of the Mother of God in Constantinople. The church
was crowded. St. Andrew the Fool for Christ was standing
at the back of the church with his disciple Epiphanius. At
four o'clock in the morning, the most holy Mother of God
appeared above the people with a veil spread over her
outstretched hands, as though to protect them with this
covering. She was clad in gold-encrusted purple and shone
with an unspeakable radiance, surrounded by apostles,
saints, martyrs and virgins. Seeing this vision, St. Andrew
gestured towards it and asked Epiphanius: 'Do you see how
the Queen and Lady of all is praying for the whole world?'
Epiphanius replied: 'Yes, Father; I see it and stand in dread.'
As a result, this commemoration was instituted to remind us
both of this event and of the Mother of God's constant
protection whenever we prayerfully seek that protection,
that shelter, in distress.

ROMANIAN ETHNIC ART MUSUEM
RECEIVES DONATION
Last week, on September 28, Father Remus Grama and Dl. Adrian Breaz, a distinguished member of our parish, went to Vatra Românească to bring a new donation offered by His Eminence, our Archbishop NATHANIEL. The donation includes both books for the museum and a significant number of paintings by the Romanian-American painter Florence Damian-Tait.
With this, the museum increases its artistic
artifacts, having an acute need for its own space, in
which we can exhibit the collections adequately.
We consider it a duty of conscience for our
generation to support this effort. We pray that the
Lord will send us one or more benefactors to help
us build a museum building on the church property.
For a substantial donation, the museum could bear
the name of the benefactor. We look forward with
confidence that the Mother of God will help us!

PRIMEȘTE DONAȚII
În săptămâna care a trecut, pe data de 28
Septembrie, Părintele Remus Grama and Dl. Adrian
Breaz, un distins membru al parohiei noastre, s-au
deplasat la Vatra Românească pentru a aduce o
nouă donație oferită de Înalt Prea Sfințitul,
Arhiepiscopul nostru NATHANIEL. Donația include
atât cărți pentru muzeu, cât și un număr însemnat de
tablouri, lucrate de pictorița de origine Româno-
Americană Florence Damian-Tait.
Cu aceasta muzeul își sporește fondul artistic, având
o nevoie acută de un spațiu propriu, în care să putem
expune colecțiile în mod adecvat. Socotim că este o
datorie de conștiință pentru generația noastră să
sprijine acest effort. Ne rugăm ca Domnul să ne
trimită unul sau mai mulți binefăcători, care să ne
ajute să înălțăm o clădire pentru acest muzeu. Pentru
o donație substantială, muzeul ar putea purta numele
binefăcătorului. Aștepăm cu încredințarea că Maica
Domnului ne va ajuta!

AROY Meeting
Last Sunday, Father met with our AROY group. He was
assisted by Alina Oancea, Natalia Durlesteanu, Chaz
Spyridon Ikes, advisers. Ioana Bancescu, adviser, was
unable to attend. Alina Oancea ordered Pizza and we had
lots of fun.
Among others, the AROY decided that elections of officers
will be held in the first half of next year. The current officers
are: Nicoleta Durlesteanu – President; Christopher
Oancea – Vice President; Emily Munteanu – Secretary;
Nicolas Spanu and Kevin Oancea - Caroling; Marcus
Durelsteanu – Historian.
Lively discussions took place. The youth decided to
contact St. Herman Monastery (FOCUS) and serve dinner
to the needy; to creatively organize caroling under COVID
restrictions; learn the Divine Liturgy and prepare winter fun
activities.

Postul Sfintei Cuvioase Parascheva de la Iași 2020
Preaiubitului Cler, credincioșilor și monahilor Sfintei no-
astre Episcopii:
Națiunile din întreaga lume continuă să fie afectate de
Coronavirus, iar America de Nord nu face excepție. În
plus față de virus, America de Nord se confruntă și cu
alte probleme de ordin negativ care ne eclipsează viațile,
precum conflictele civile, violența fizică, distrugerea gu-
vernului și a proprietăților personale. Acestea reprezintă
acțiuni umane, care nu sunt cauzate de virus; sunt decizii
luate în mod intenționat. Nădăjduim că nu sunt parte ale
acestor acțiuni creștinii ortodocși.
Prin urmare, este posibil ca, în viețile noastre person-
ale, acasă și la serviciu, să nu trăim pe deplin credința la
care am fost chemați. Noi înșine, prin propriile păcate și
prin absența pocăinței, devim, la rândul nostru, o parte a
acestui haos și aducem nemulțumire Domnului și Dum-
nezeului nostru, Creatorul, Mântuitorul și Sfințitorul nos-
tru. Nu îi putem spune aproapelui: „Lasă-mă să-ți scot
paiul din ochi, când iată că tu ai o bârnă în ochiul tău”.
Unele voci i-au îndemnat pe cetățeni să se roage. Suntem
de acord cu acest lucru. Suntem cerți de faptul că numai
Dumnezeu Însuși poate aduce „pace lumii”, așa cum ne
rugăm în mod constant în cadrul sfintelor noastre slujbe.
Unul dintre cei mai venerați sfinți din Biserică în
România este Sfânta Parascheva din Iași / Jassy. Pelerini,
preoți, mireni și monahi se îngrămădesc cu miile la racla
ei pentru a-i venera sfintele moaștele pe data de 14 oc-
tombrie. Oamenii îi vor cere mijlocirea înaintea tronului
lui Dumnezeu pentru binecuvântări personale și
naționale. Creștinii ortodocși din America de Nord
prăznuiesc, de asemenea, această zi de sărbătoare.
Prin intermediul acestei scrisori, îi invităm pe preoții
și credincioșii noștri să prăznuiască sărbătoarea Sfintei
Parascheva printr-o zi de post negru și rugăciune. Sărbă-
toarea va fi într-o zi de miercuri și este zi obișnuită de
post, așa că vă îndemnăm să țineți un post și mai sever.
Întotdeauna este momentul „potrivit” pentru căința per-
sonală, chiar dacă nu este una dintre perioadele de post
„prevăzute”.
Să-l rugăm pe Bunul Dumnezeu să-și coboare mila
Sa asupra celor două națiuni, Canada și Statele Unite, în
care se află parohiile, mănăstirile și Vatra noastră cea
mult îndrăgită. Postul și rugăciunile noastre au ca scop
vederea „propriilor păcate și necondamnarea aproapelui”.
Să fim „făcătorii de pace, că a lor este împărăția ceru-
rilor”.

Dearly Beloved, the Clergy, Lay Faithful and Monastics
of our God-Protected Episcopate:
Nations around the world continue to be plagued by
the Coronavirus, and North America is no exception. In
addition to the Virus, we in North America have other
negative issues darkening our lives, such as civil strife,
physical violence, destruction of government and per-
sonal properties. These are human actions, not caused by
the virus; they are choices intentionally made. Hopefully,
Orthodox Christians are not participating in these actions.
In giving consideration, perhaps in our personal lives,
at home and work, we are not fully living the faith to
which we have been called. We, by our own sins and lack
of repentance, are also a part of the chaos and displease
our loving God, our Creator, Redeemer and Sanctifier.
We cannot say to our neighbor, “Let me take the sliver
from your eye while we have the entire plank in our
own.” Some voices have urged citizens to pray. We
agree. We know that only God Himself can bring “peace
to the world,” as we constantly pray in our divine ser-
vices.
One of the most revered saints in the Church in Ro-
mania is Saint Paraschiva of Iasi/Jassy. Pilgrims, clergy,
lay and monastics flock in the thousands to her shrine to
venerate her relics on October 14. People will ask her
intercession before the throne of God for their personal
and national blessings. Orthodox Christians in North
America also remember her feast day.
With this letter, we invite our clergy and faithful to
keep the feast of Saint Paraschiva as a day of strict fast-
ing and prayer. This is a Wednesday and a usual day of
fasting, so we invite you to make it an even more severe
fast. It is always the “right” time for personal repentance,
even if it is not one of the “prescribed” fasting periods.
Let us beseech God to have mercy on the two nations,
Canada and The United States wherein our parishes,
monasteries and our beloved Vatra are located. Our ac-
tions of prayer and fasting are that we see “our own sins
and not judge our brother.” Let us be “peacemakers, for
theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”
