Sep), ISU Junior Grand Prix – Yerevan, ARM (10-13 Oct), Crystal Skate –Târgu Secuiesc, ROM (24-28 Oct).
(Amanda Stan)

Sponsorship Letter
She is called “The Ice Little Star,” but Amanda Stan’s story melts hearts everywhere. She
is a world class figure skater and, in order to sustain her career, she creates and sells
prize-winning art. Amanda Stan is 17, was born in Canada to parents of Romanian
descent, has Romanian-Canadian double citizenship and lives in Toronto where she
has been training since the age of 4, following tenaciously her dream to carry the
Romanian flag on the world’s highest podiums. Amanda’s figure skating talent was
noticed from her very first competition, when she was 6 and won Gold. Trained by
Liesa Rau until she reached 12, Amanda was then joined by the famous coaches
Andrei Berezintsev, Inga Zusev, Elvis Stojko and ballet instructor Alexander
Shapovalov. Also, Amanda has trained many times with multiple-champion and
Canadian Olympic Coach Brian Orser at his summer camp.
Until 13, she competed on behalf of Canada then expressed her wish to represent
Romania at the Grand Prix, World, European and Olympic competitions. So, after
years of being a significant part of Canada’s elite figure skating team, and having
won over 30 medals, most of them Gold, in 2014 she competed for the first time on
behalf of Romania, winning Bronze at the Crystal Skate International ISU Novice Advance. In
2015, she went to two Junior Grand Prix competitions where she finished 16th among the world’s
best junior skaters. In the fall of the same year, she won Gold for Romania at the prestigious ISU Autumn Classic
International. Thus, Amanda had Romania’s national anthem played for her while standing on the top podium, on Canadian soil,
just like legendary gymnast Nadia Comăneci had done 40 years before her. This victory ensured Amanda’s qualification for
the Junior Worlds in Taipei. In 2016, she went to Germany for 2 other Junior Grand Prix editions where she obtained the best
points ever recorded by a Romanian figure skater lady at such a high-level race.
Amanda Stan won Romania’s National Vice-Champion title in 2015 and 2016, Romania’s Junior National Champion title
and 9th Place at the European Youth Olympics in 2017, and in 2018 she reclaimed her position as Romania’s National
Junior Champion, then became the ISU Olympic Hopes Vice-Champion and Romania's National Senior Vice-Champion.
The hard work and dedication to figure skating is a year-round commitment for Amy. She attends a school with a high-
performance athletic program, ensuring equal importance is given to her academics and training alike. Amanda's daily (6 days
per week) training schedule at the Richmond Training Center includes 3-4 hours on the ice and 1-2 hours off the ice for fitness
and ballet classes. Her full-time team includes Robert Burk (main coach), Tracy Robertson (choreography and artistic work), Elvis
Stojko (on- and off-ice training), Steven Wong (sports nutritionist/personal trainer). The costs of being a figure skater are very
high. Amanda has to pay her on-ice hours, coaches, trainers, choreographers, equipment, skates, competition dresses, physio
treatments, plus the hotel rooms and all the cross-ocean flights for herself, her Mom Luciana, and the coaches to and from the
international competitions; add to all that the coaching and preparation costs at these competitions, which are much different
from the local ones. The annual total reaches $40,000.
To cover these expenses, Amanda’s parents make huge financial efforts and she sells the paintings she is able to create in the
little time left. So far, despite sending out numerous requests, Amanda has not received any form of material support from any
official Romanian organization. Therefore, Amanda feels compelled to plea for your support and thus truly hopes to find
generous sponsors early enough for her upcoming competitions:
Amanda’s upcoming competitions in 2018 are: ISU Autumn Classic International – Oakville, CDA (20-22 Sep), ISU Junior Grand
Prix – Yerevan, ARM (10-13 Oct), Crystal Skate – Târgu Secuiesc, ROM (24-28 Oct).
“Feeling deeply grateful for your appreciation of my dedicated work and the sacrifices I’ve been making for Romania, and also for
your generous support, I carry you in my mind and heart, more so when I can offer you opportunities to be proud at the most
prestigious sports competitions, when the sweat drops become one with the tears of joy.” (Amanda Stan)
