As far as I’m concerned I would inform myself about the country’s style of negotiation I’m going to visit or to do business with. Why?? The answer it’s simple: to have the best results. That’s why my advice for all businessmen it’s to get some information before making a deal with foreigners. I leaved in r eece for many y ears! and there you have t o know the people and the cust oms. "orei gners don’ t know too much thing s about thei r tradition. They come with their traditions! their values! thinking that only their point of view e#ists and they forget and don’t take into consideration that what is important is the $field% where you play and not with whom you play or how good or successful you are. And to be more specific! I will try to give an e#ample of someone from ermany! who came to &alia to do business with my boss who is the manager of &alia'each (otel! a big hotel from )rete. When the erman came in reece! the manager planned lots of free*of*charge activities to the hotel! to entertain him! to get to know him and to see if the erman is a  person that you can trust and with whom you can do business with. (e organi+ed a reek  party to let him know about reek traditions. 'ut! the erman! instead of being polite! he pressured the manager because,he didn’t have time enough! he had only one*two day s to negotiate and to si gn the contract. Als o! he bec ame suspicious of the true intention behind the manager’s hospitality. (e thought that the manager wanted to get him tired. The manager wanted only to know him better! to be polite! and I can say that he wanted to make a new friend. Why not? -ou can’t do business with people you don’t trust. n the other hand! the erman didn’t feel comfortable when he saw that he must negotiate with more than one people! because in the reek team were five people. know the people and the customs. "oreigners don’t know too much things about their

tradition. They come with their traditions! their values! thinking that only their point of

view e#ists and they forget and don’t take into consideration that what is important is the

the tradition: they like to act like a team! like a family! because they are more collectivist

than individualist like the ermans are.

 It wasn’t a surprise at all that the deal wasn’t closed in this first meeting! but!

fortunately! everything was solved and the contract was signed. I don’t know! maybe! the

erman tried to understand their customs.

In the end! if you you want to do business in reece! in my opinion! this is what

you should know about my country:

* reeks are warm and hospitable0

* When you meet someone for the first time! you have to shake hands firmly! smile!

and keep eye contact0

* ood friends often hug0 they may also kiss each other on each cheek. &ale

friends often slap each other1s arm at the shoulder0

* reeks prefer to do business with people they know and trust0

* They keep an intricate web of family and friends to call upon for business

assistance since they can be confident of their trustworthiness0

* reeks prefer face*to*face meetings rather than doing business by telephone or in

writing! which are seen as too impersonal0

* It takes time to develop relationships: this can be done in the office! over e#tended

lunches! dinners! and social outings0

*  Appointments are necessary and should be made / to 2 weeks in advance!

although it is often possible to schedule them on short notice0

* )onfirm meetings one day in advance by telephone0

* &any businesspeople eat lunch between / and 3 p.m.! so this is not the optimal

time for a meeting;

* 4uite often it is not until the third meeting that business is actually conducted.

5uring the first meeting your reek business colleagues will want to get to know

something about you as a person. The second meeting is used to develop trust and

mutual respect. 'y the third meeting! business may begin0

As a conclusion! I think!it’s very important to know something about every

cultures! because people are different! the customs are different! and you must understand
