    Owl Paper Plate Craft

    Supplies needed:

    3 paper plates

Yellow, brown or orange construction paper

    Scissors

    Glue (or a stapler)

    Googly eyes (optional)

    Crayons, paint or markers

On one paper plate, fold about a third of the plateover (have the bottom of the plate facing forward).

This paper plate will be the owl's head.

On the folded part, cut two short slits and fold

them back up. (These will be the owl's tufts -although they look like ears, they are only feathers.

An owl's ears are simple holes on the sides of thehead).

    Glue the center section down.

Glue googly eyes on the folded-down section (orcut two large circles and glue them down, then

draw a dark dot in the center).

Using construction paper, cut a small half-circle with

a little square off the rounded side. Curve the edges

around, forming a cone. Glue or staple it shut.

    Duck Paper Plate Craft

    Supplies needed:

    Paper plate

    Scissors

    Glue

    Stapler

    A pencil

Yellow and orange construction paper or oak tag

    Crayons, paint or markers

    Googly eyes (optional)

Trace your hands on yellowconstruction paper, then cut the

    markers).

Fold a paper plate in half.

Paint it yellow and let it dry

Staple the hands near the fold on one end -these will be the tail feathers.

Using yellow construction paper or oaktag, cut

this will be the duck's bill. Fold the end of the

beak over, making a small tab (this is where

    you will put the glue).

Glue the bill onto the circle (put the glue

on the small tab that will be folded

under the bill). Draw eyes above the bill(or glue on small googly eyes).

Staple the head to the paper plate (nearthe fold line, opposite the tail feathers).

Using orange construction paper or oaktag, cut out

the duck's feet - they should be connected by ashort strip of paper. To draw each foot, start with

an oval, then draw a zigzag on one end.

Fold the paper where the feet meet the strip of

    paper.

Staple each foot to the bottom of one side of

the paper plate, right inside the fold line of thefoot.

You now have a cute duckie that will standup.

A sturdy paper plate Markers, crayons, or paint Stapler or tape

Draw a spiral on a paper plate. Cut

    along the line.

Decorate the paper plate using markers, crayons, orpaint.

Using green construction paper, draw a leaf and cut itout. Either draw tiny butterfly eggs on it or glue on

tiny paper circles (either cut them out or use a holepunch to make some). A cluster of butterfly eggs are

usually laid on the underside of a leaf; the eggs are

white or yellow or greenish, and are circular to oval.

Draw and cut out a caterpillar (the egg hatches into

a caterpillar, which spends its entire time eatingleaves). Decorate it.

Draw and cut out a pupa (the stage during which the

caterpillar makes a protective case around itself andturns into a butterfly). Decorate it.

To make butterfly wings, fold a small piece of paperin half, and draw half a butterfly along the fold line.

Using dark paper, make abody for your butterfly (it's

basically a long oval with a

    circular head).

Glue the body to the wingsand decorate your butterfly.

Staple or tape the stages in the butterfly's life cycleto string and then to the paper plate.

Attach another short length of string to the plate; itwill be used to hang the mobile up.

You now have a great buttefly life cycle mobile.

    Markers or crayons

    Optional: Glitter glue or glitter

Fold a piece of construction paper inhalf and cut along the fold. (This willmake 2 butterflies - you'll need to make

4 or more butterflies for your mobile.)

Draw half of a butterfly along the foldline.

Fold a small piece of black or brown paper in half.

    15/65

Using a needle, pull a short length of knotted

thread through the balancing point of the butterfly

    (near its middle).

Tie the other end of the thread to the end of a

    twig.

On the other end of the twig, attach another

    butterfly in the same way.

Tie a thread to the middle of this twig andattach it to the end of another twig.

Attach a butterfly to the other end of

    this twig.

Using a short length of thread, attach

what you've made to the end of

another twig. If you want the twigs toremain horizontal, tie the thread

where the mobile will balance (butthis is not necessary).

  • 8/10/2019 Crafts de Facut La Gradinita

    16/65

Attach a butterfly to the other end

    of this twig.

Tie a longer length of thread to the top twig. If

Tape two pennies to the back of the butterfly.

Now you can balance thebutterfly's head on a pencil

eraser (or you can make a stand

for your butterfly by putting a

stick in a ball of clay). You may

have to adjust the position of

the coins to make the butterflybalance on the head area.

The center of balance of thebutterfly is close to the spot

    directly between the coins.

    (Before the coins were added,

A long piece of green or brown yarn or string

Draw a leaf on a piece of construction paper.Make sure to draw a thick stem on the top (your

String (green is best, or you can color white string with a green marker)

Fold and then cut a white paper plate in

    half.

Draw a rainbow on the paper plate with markers, crayons, or paint.

Remind the children that the order of the colors in arainbow is: Red - Orange - Yellow - Green - Blue -

Indigo (dark blue) - Violet. An easy mnemonic forremembering the order of the colors is the name Roy

    G. Biv (an English friend told me of the Britishmnemonic 'Richard Of York Gave Battle In Vain,' anallusion to the Wars of the Roses). Also, the red part

of the rainbow is always on the top of the arch in asingle rainbow.

Punch three holes in the plate: one hole at the top,and a hole on each end of the rainbow.

Go to the "Shamrock template"and print out on

green paper (or print it on white paper and color

it in). Or you can just draw your own, of course.

Cut out the shamrock and color it (if necessary)

and punch a hole at its top.

Go to the "Pot of Gold template"and print itout (or just draw your own).
