Draw and cut out a caterpillar (the egg hatches into
a caterpillar, which spends its entire time eatingleaves). Decorate it.

Fold a piece of green construction paper in half,
then cut it in half.
Put the two pieces together, and fold them in half again.
Draw half an evergreen tree opposite the fold.
Cut along the line - you
should get two identicaltrees.
Fold the trees in half, just
barely creasing the center
line (this is to mark thecenter of the tree).
Cut a slit along the bottom half of the
center of one tree and along the top half
of the center of the other tree.
-
8/10/2019 Crafts de Facut La Gradinita
29/65
Slip the two trees together along theslits.
Using clear tape, tape the bottoms andtops together (pieces of tape on the
bottom and at the top make the treestand up well and stop the slit ends
from flopping over).
Draw some pine cones on your tree if
you'd like.
For a bigger tree: Start with two pieces of green
construction paper, and fold them so they make a long, thin rectangle. Draw a tree opposite the fold. The restof the instructions are the same.
Twig Frame
Supplies needed:
Twigs
Twine or string
Glue (hot glue works well) A photo for framing
Collect 2 bunches of twigs. One bunch (about 6 to 8)should be about 2 inches longer than your photo.
The other bunch of twigs should be about 2 inches
wider than your photo.
-

Arrange the twigs so that they surround the photo
and extend outward about an inch in each direction.
Tie the twigs at each corner using twine or string,
making an "X" pattern.
Glue the photo onto the back of your twig frame.
Hot glue works the best.
Glue a small loop of string to the top batch of twigsfor hanging the photo.
Family Tree
Supplies needed:
Sky blue and green construction paper
Crayons or markers
Scissors
Some yarn
A hole punch
Styrofoam or paper cup

Cut out big leaves from the green construction
paper. Each leaf will represent a person in the
child's family and should be big enough to write
that person's name on the leaf. Cut enough leavesfor each of the child's siblings, parents, andgrandparents (or more!).
Write the name of each person on their leaf. Youmight want to include the relative's relationship to
the child, like "Grandma Joan Smith." Punch a
hole on the end of each leaf.
Tie the leaves to the tree. Thechild's generation goes at the
top of the tree, the parents atthe second level, and the
grandparents at the bottom.
For an alternative project, usephotos, and paste them on the
leaves. Or use cut-outs ofleaves, fruit (like apples),
and/or flowers to represent thepeople.

Stiff paper (like card stock, oaktag or thin cardboard) or
styrofoam meat trays
Scissors
Crayons or markers (optional)
Two paper stars are needed to make one 3-
dimensional star. Either draw two identical stars
on a piece of stiff paper or print out thestartemplate. To go to the template, click here.
Decorate the two stars (if you like) onboth sides, then cut them out.
Make one slit in each star. On one star,
the slit goes from an inner corner to the
center point of the star; on the other
star, the slit goes from an outer corner
to the center point.
Slip the two stars together through the slits you
just cut. For stability, you may have to tape thestars a bit where they meet at the slits.
You now have a great three-dimensional star
decoration that stands by itself on a table.

A nice touch, suggested by Peter
Hesselmann, is to have each child write aChristmas wish for themselves on one
paper hand, and a Christmas wish for theworld on the other. Peter also did not tell
his students why they were making the
hands; he put the tree up, which surprised
and delighted them. Peter also had the
teachers and staff each write a wish forthe world on a circular piece ofconstruction paper - these were used for
baubles on the tree.

the hole will be the fish's mouth.
Glue (or use tape or a stapler) the tail to the end
of the fish.
Glue a googly eye on the fish (glue on two eyesif you want a flounder) or simply draw eye(s).
Color in the fish, drawing
scales, lips, and so on.
For an extra touch, make a tiny
fish (use the same instructions
as above, but start with a tinycircle made from construction
paper). Hang the tiny fish from
the large fish's mouth using ashort piece of thread.

String (green is best, or you can color white string with a green marker)
Fold and then cut a white paper plate in
half.
Draw a rainbow on the paper plate with markers, crayons, or paint.
Remind the children that the order of the colors in arainbow is: Red - Orange - Yellow - Green - Blue -
Indigo (dark blue) - Violet. An easy mnemonic forremembering the order of the colors is the name Roy
G. Biv (an English friend told me of the Britishmnemonic 'Richard Of York Gave Battle In Vain,' anallusion to the Wars of the Roses). Also, the red part
of the rainbow is always on the top of the arch in asingle rainbow.
Punch three holes in the plate: one hole at the top,and a hole on each end of the rainbow.
Go to the "Shamrock template"and print out on
green paper (or print it on white paper and color
it in). Or you can just draw your own, of course.
Cut out the shamrock and color it (if necessary)
and punch a hole at its top.
Go to the "Pot of Gold template"and print itout (or just draw your own).
Color in the Pot. Cut out a few "gold" coins from
yellow paper.
