    Corpus and the writ ofcertiorari. Make sure you understand the meaning of the Latin terms from exercise II/p. 77 by matching

    them with their corresponding English equivalents.

    Grammar: the Infinitive

    Remember the forms of the Infinitive: short infinitive (discuss, work), long infinitive (todiscuss, to work), present continuous infinitive (to be discussing, to be working), perfectinfinitive (to have discussed, to have worked), perfect infinitive continuous (to have beendiscussing, to have been working), passive infinitive forms (to be discussed, to have beendiscussed).

    Remember the main verbs and expressions that require the use of short infinitive: hadbetter, would rather, why not, lets, make + pronoun (Accusative), let + pronoun (Accusative).

    Test your knowledge about the Infinitive forms by solving ex. V/p. 78-80 and ex. VI./p. 80.

    consider, deny, endure, fancy, forgive, imagine, involve, keep, mention, mind, practice,

    prevent, recollect, report, risk, suggest, and expressions: its no use/good, its (not) worth,theres no point (in), feel like, cant stand/bear, cant help, be/get used to, be/get accustomed

    to, have difficulty (in), in favour of, look forward to, etc. Exercise the use of Gerunds by solving ex. IV, V and VI/ p. 84-87.

    Grammar: the Subjunctive

    Remember the forms of were subjunctive or unreal past (were, offered, spent) and thecontexts that require their use: wish, suppose, imagine, would rather, would sooner, if only,

    its time, if, as if.

    Practise the use ofwere subjunctive by solving ex. IV and VI/p. 91-94. Remember the forms ofperfect subjunctive (had been, had offered, had spent) and the

    a) verbs of command and control: advise, agree, arrange, ask, beg, claim, command, decide,demand, determine, insist, order, propose, recommend, require, request, rule, stipulate, suggest,urge, etc.

    b) it is/was + adjective + that: it is/was absurd, advisable, amazing, better, compulsory, desirable,essential, imperative, important, ludicrous, natural, necessary, recommendable, ridiculous,strange, surprising, etc.

    c) so that, in order that, lest, in case, for fear that, in Purpose Clauses.

    Grammar: the Synthetic Subjunctive

    Remember some of the Be-Subjunctive forms that have become obsolete: so be it, comewhat may, be that as it may, suffice it to , far be it from etc. and read some examples in

    which they are used p. 100-101.

    Practise the forms of Synthetic Subjunctive by solving ex. VIII/p. 101-102.
