Television is a permanent part of our lives and sometimes

it inuences our decisions and opinions more than it

should.

Everyone has at least one television set in his home.

Families who have children usually own more than one

(they have a television set installed in each bedroom and

even in the kitchen). People nd television a very

comfortable and cheap way of spendin their spare time!

without havin to move from their chairs or puttin their

mind at work in order to understand the meanin of a

reat book. Television o"ers a reat variety of choices!

such as news prorams! cartoons! lms! entertainment or

sports channels. Parents and children can watch

television all day lon without ettin bored.

There are both positive and neative ways in which

television can inuence our lives. First of all! television! asall the mass media! keeps us informed on the

political! economic and social chanes in our society. #n

television we see interviews with politicians! we listen to

the latest music as well as nd out about the latest

fashion trends. $f you want to be informed and you don%t

have a newspaper or acces to the $nternet you can

always turn on your T& and nd out the latest news. 'lso!if you plan to o out and you don%t really know what to

wear! you can watch the forecast and nd out if the

weather is oin to be sunny! cloudy! cold! or hot.

television! there are other reasons as well people can

learn new interestin thins and they also can have fun.

There are many educational channels! such as *iscovery!

that broadcast only documentaries and many people ndthem fascinatin and useful. 't the same time! plenty of

channels o"er a reat variety of entertainment shows.

Television can inuence people+s lives in di"erent ways!

by keepin them informed about the politics or the

economy! by o"erin them new scientical or historical

information! helpin them complete their education! and

also by makin them feel rela,ed and happy after a hardday at school or at work.

The mass media in eneral and television in particular

have inuenced people%s lives since they appeared.

-nfortunately! this inuences is sometimes neative!

destroyin lives and e,pectations.

atchin too much television is bad for your eyes butmostly for your mind and spirit. e watch television to

escape from the realities of our lives and we often foret

that what we see on the T& screen is nothin else but

fantasy. e dedicate a lot of time and enery to watchin

imaes and characters that don%t e,ist! because movies!

cartoons! and also the news are the e,pression of some

artists or the reporters% point of view! and it often has noconnection with reality.

/hildren and teenaers are the easiest victims of this

false reality! because they can%t make a clear cut

between reality and fantasy. They watch lms or news

about their favourite stars and they think that cool

clothes and make0up or outraeous behaviour are the

most important thins in life. 1irls often fall victims to

popular television models and they decide to starve inorder to et to look 2ust like the so0called

beautiful stars.

'nother neative aspect is that people lose faith in

themselves and start thinkin that those imaes they see

on television are better than their lives will ever be! so

they ive up their lives and stay in front of the television

all day lon! inorin their family or friends. They lose

interest in their 2obs and even et red because of the

inuence television has on them.

#n television people can watch violent prorammes or

lms that inuence their behaviour! makin them more

aressive or more frihtened. $n every civili3ed country!

these prorammes are often broadcast after midniht!but that doesn+t stop children from watchin them.

'lso! television presents many advertisements conceived

to make people like and want a product without even

tryin it or tastin it. These false e,pectations! these false

imaes broadcast on television inuence our lives in a

neative way.
