Compozitoare romflncd, autoare a multor lucriri orchestrale, de muzici de camerd, corale gi vocale care au fostinterpretate in Europa, Iulia Cibiqescu-Duran a studiat pianul la Liceul de Muzica din Cluj-Napoca, la clasa doamneiprofesoare ZoiJa Sfdrlea. A urmat apoi cursurile Academiei de Muzici "Ghe. Dima" din Cluj-Napoca, seclia de compozi{ie, cuacad. Prof. dr. Cornel f1ranu, iar in continuare, cursurile celei de-a doua facultdfi - dirijat orchestri -, avdndu-i ca profesoripe maegtrii Petre Sbdrcea gi Emil Simon, fiind licen{iatd la ambele specializdri. Susfindndu-gi teza de doctorat in anul 2OOl, a

ob{inut titlul de ,doctor in muzicologie".intre 1990-1995, Iulia Cibigescu-Duran a activat ca profesoari la Liceul de Muzicd din Cluj-Napoca, preddnd:

contrapunct, armonie, teorie, istoria muzicii. Din 1995 este cadru didactic universitar la Academia de Muzicd din Cluj-Napoca:asistentd universitard (1995-1998), lector univ. dr. (1999-prezent). A dirijat din L994pind in prezent orchestrele simfonice aleurmdtoarelor filarmonici: Sibiu, Craiova, Ploiegti, Tdrgu-Mureg, Botogani, Bragov. Totodatd a suslinut conferinle in Germania,Moldova, Romdnia. Din 1992 este membri a Uniunii Compozitorilor gi Muzicologilor din Romdnia.

Printre multele sale distinclii se numf,ri cinci premii la Concursul Nafional de Compozifie <. Gheorghe Dima > dinCluj-Napoca: Premiul II in 1997 pentru Sonata pentru pian;premiul I - 1989 - pentru Trio de sufldtori; premiul I - 1990 -Cantata a II-a pentru mezzosoprand Si 5 instrumente pe versuri de Ana Blandiana; Premiul Uniunii Compozitorilor Romini -1991 - Cvqrtet de coarde nr. Ii Premiul al lllea - 1992 - pentru Poemes pathetiques pentru cor mixt pe versuri de

Appollinaire gi BaudelaireMai recent, i-a fost acordat Premiul I la Concursul Nafional de Compozi{ie Iaqi gi Premiul Televiziunii Romdne Iaqi

(amdndoui in 1996 pentru Melancolia Egeei, lieduri pentru mezzosopran5, soprand gi pian pe versuri de poeli grecicontemporani) si doua premii la Concursul Festivalului "Lucian Blaga" in 1996 (pentru Trei lieduri pentru soprand si orchestrdmici); Premiul II - 1999 - pentru Trei lieduri (tenor, vioara, pian). Deasemenea, ea a cdqtigat doui premii ca dirijor laFestivalul gi Concursul Tinerilor Dirijori de la Craiova (Premiul Constantin gi Jean Bobescu - 1995; Premiul Filip Lazir -1996). Muzica sa a fost reprezentati in Germania 9i Romdnia.

Doamna Iulia Cibigescu-Dtnan este de asemenea activd gi in alte domenii. Intre 1990-1996 colaboreazi in calitate decritic la patru reviste gi ziare de prestigiu din Cluj (Tribuna, Steaua, Adevdrul de Cluj, Mesagerul Transilvan), urmdnd ca inanul 2OO2 si-i aparl volumul de muzicologie intitulat "Structuri polimorfe ?n postmodernismul muzical romdnesc" (2OO2,Ed.Media Musica, Cluj-Napoca), cdt gi partitura Cvartet de coarde nr. 3 (2N2, Ed. Media Musica, Cluj-Napoca). Este de

asemenea autoarea a doud volume de poezie: "Ascunziguri de m6gti" (Editura Mesagerul, Cluj, 1995) si "Taina egipteana"(Editura Cogito, Oradea, 1997). in 1992 eaa fondat ansamblul contemporan muzical "Art Contrast" in Cluj-Napoca, ansamblupe care l-a condus pAn[ in 1997.

Romanian composer of mostly orchestral, chamber, choral, and vocal works that have been performed in Europe, Ms.Iulia Cibisescu-Duran studied piano with Zoita Sfarlea at the Lyceum of Music in Cluj-Napoca. She studied composition withCornel Taranu at the Gheorghe Dima Academy of Music in Cluj-Napoca, where she then studied orchestral conducting withPetre Sbarcea and Emil Simon and earned diplomas in both subjects, as well as her DMus in musicology in 2001.

Between 1990-1995, Iulia Cibisescu-Duran worked as a teacher at Music High School from Cluj-Napoca teaching:counterpoint, harmony, theory, history of music. Since 1995, she has been professing at the Music Academy from Cluj-Napoca: as an University Assistant (1995-1998), University Lecturer Doctor (1999-present time). Since 1994 she has beenconducting symphonic orchestras at the philharmonics in: Sibiu, Craiova, Ploiesti, Targu-Mures, Botosani, Brasov. She hasalso sustained conferences in Germany, Moldavia and Romania. Since 1992 she has been a member of the Musicologists' andComposers' Union of Romania.

Among her many honors are five prizes in the Gheorghe Dima competition in Cluj-Napoca: Second Prize, 1997, forSonatapiano; FirstPrize, 1989. for Trioforwindsi FirstPrize, 1990, for Cantata No.2for MS and 5 instruments, lyrics byAna Blandiana',Prize of the Romanian Composers Union, 1991, for String Quartet No. l; Second Prize, 1992,for Poemespathetiques for choi,ir,lyrics by Appollinaire and Baudelaire.

More recently, she received First Prize in the Iasi Competition and the Romanian TV Prize in Iasi (both 1996, both forAegean Melancholy [mezzosopran, soprano and piano], lyrics by Greek contemporary poets) and two prizes in the competitionof the Lucian Blaga Festival in Sebes (Lucian Blaga Prize, 1996, for Three Lieder [soprano, small orchestra]; Second Prize,199, for Three Lieder [tenor, viola, piano]). She also earned two prizes as a conductor in the Craiova competition (Constaninand Jean Bobescu Prize,1995; Filip Lazar Prize, 1996). Her music has been performed in Germany and Romania.

Ms. Iulia Cibisescu-Duran is also active in other positions. She worked as a critic for four Romanian newspapers inCluj-Napoca from 1990-96 and later wrote the book Polymorphic Structures in Postmodern Romanian Music (2002, EdituraMedia Musica, Cluj-Napoca), also Srrlng Quartet no. 3 (2002,Editura Media Musica, Cluj-Napoca). Moreover, she has writtenmuch poetry, including the books The Hiding Places of Masks ( 1995, Editura Mesagerul, Cluj) and The Egyptian Secret (1997 ,

Editura Cogito, Oradea). She founded the contemportrry music ensemble Art Contrast in Cluj-Napoca from 1992, which she

conducted from 1992-97

Duo pentru viol6 gi violoncel este o lucrare compusd intr-o singurd partein forml de sonati bitematicd. Temele, modale, contrastante - tema I, densd,pasionali, prezentati in polifonie de atacuri gi tema a II-a, melodici, expresiv-tensionald (prezentati de violoncel) sunt mediate de o punte cu efecte deglissando in flautato la ambele instrumente, punJe care prefigureazl materialultematic al temei secunde.

Tratarea prelucreazd in mai multd etape - alternf,nd momentele de

"giusto" ritmic cu momentele culminative - materialul tematic prezentat inexpozitie. i

Repriza este de tip sintetic prin suprapunerea temei I cu fragmente dintema a II-a care apar distantate temporal pe continuumul polifoniei de atacuri altemei L

Coda ("senza misura") apare dupi "moartea" temei I, cu ultimelefragmente din tema a II-a, ca o intrebare (viola) ce igi gdsegte in cele din urmir[spunsul mult a$teptat (violoncelul).

This work is made of a single part as a

bithematical sonata. The themes are modal,contrasting - the first theme, dense, passional,presented as a polyphony of attacks and the secondtheme, melodical, expressively-tensional(presented by the cello) are mediated by a bridgewith effects of glissando in flautalo at both of theinstruments, bridge that prefigure the tematicalmaterial of the second theme. The developmentprocess in more stages-alternating the moments of"giusto" rhythmic with the climax moments - thethematic material presented in exhibition.The reprise is one of the synthetic type byoverposing of the first theme with fragments of thesecond theme that appear from time to time overthe attack polyphony'

After the "death" of the first theme, Coda("senza missura") appears with the second theme'sfragments like a question (viola) which finallyfinds its so expected answer (violoncello).

Le duo pour alto et viloncelle est une piececomposde d'une seule partie en forme de sonatabithdmatique. Irs thdmes, modales etcontrastantes - le premier thdme, dense,passionale, present6 en polyphonie d'attaque et ledeuxidme thdme, m6lodique, expressivement-tensionnelle (pr6sent6 par le violoncelle) sontm6di6s par un pont e effets de glissando en

flautato chez les instruments tous les deux, pontsqui prdfigurent le matiriel th6matique dudeuxidme thdme.

l-e, traitement transforme en plusieurs6tapes le mat6riel th6matique pr6sent dansl'exposition en alternant les moments de "giusto"ritmique avec les moments de point.

La reprise est de type synth6tique par lasuperposition du premiere thdme avec desfragments du deuxidme thdme qui apparaissenttemporellement 6cart6s sur le continuum de lapolyphonie d'attaque du premier thdme.

Aprds la << morte >> du premiere thdmq,Coda ("senza missura") apparait avec les

derniers fragments du deuxidme thbme, commeune question (alto) qui trouve en fin la r6ponse siattendue (violoncello).
