Cuvântul autorului

După ce am publicat în anul 2000 volumul Wolfgang Pauly. Provocarea

unei moşteniri, am avut senzaţia că nu mai pot scrie o lucrare de şah de acelaşinivel. Dar ideea unei bibliografii a şahului românesc, eu acumulând dejamateriale de ani de zile, mi s-a părut din ce în ce mai tentantă. Utilă multora,iar pentru mine o nouă “provocare”!... Şi ca să nu merg pe “cărări bătute”,precum în puţinele bibliografii naţionale care s-au mai publicat în alte ţări, mis-a părut original şi interesant să ilustrez titlurile cu imagini.

Aşa s-a născut volumul de faţă, prima lucrare de acest fel apărută în ţaranoastră, cuprinzând toate tipăriturile pe tema şah, de la primele începuturipână acum şi prezentând în premieră (se pare că nu doar naţională) toateilustraţiile titlurilor recenzate pentru cărţi şi reviste de şah, majoritar pentrubuletine de turneu şi regulamente, precum şi pentru titluri adiacente şahului.Numerotarea volumului, “v. 1.0”, dezvăluie intenţia (şi necesitatea) unei/unorversiuni ulterioare, cu adăugiri/modificări faţă de ediţia actuală.

Bibliografia şahului românesc este prezentată în special în limba engleză,de aceea în continuare va fi folosită prescurtarea RO-ABC (Romania -

A Bibliography of Chess). Excepţie fac pasajele/citatele specifice şahuluiromânesc, în special pe zona de şah şi literatură.

Am speranţa că RO-ABC va deveni nu doar un ghid pentru bibliofilii dindomeniul şahului, ci şi o scurtă istorie a şahului românesc, un oricând punctde plecare pentru detaliere. De asemenea, volumul se poate constitui într-olectură plăcută pentru iubitorii sportului minţii, şi nu numai!

Sursa primordială a RO-ABC o reprezintă biblioteca proprie, acumulatăde-a lungul timpului şi care conţine multe alte tipărituri şi documente ce vorvedea lumina tiparului odată...!

Volumul este structurat astfel: “Cărţi de şah”; “Reviste de şah”;“Regulamente, manuale pentru arbitrii şi antrenori, lucrări ale F.R.Ş.”;“Buletine de turneu”; “Şah şi literatură, dicţionare vechi, matematică,calculatoare etc.”; “Rubrici de şah în periodice neşahiste”; “Filatelie şahistă”;“Diverse: fişe de partidă, antete, ştampile, cărţi de vizită etc.”, iar titlurile suntordonate cronologic, în cadrul fiecărui capitol.

Sunt descrise peste 800 de intrări, din care 663 sunt numerotate: 613reprezentă titluri distincte, restul fiind titluri adiacente sau ediţii ulterioare.

Numerotarea este utilă în special pentru primele 5 capitole, unde este greude presupus că vor mai apărea noutăţi faţă de lucrarea actuală.

Din totalul de circa 550 imagini prezentate, în jur de 385 reprezintă

A magazine which was never published!In the newspaper Familia from Oradea-Mare, 16/28.viii.1881, was

published an anounce about a new chess printing.

But the term “organ” was wrongly considered “magazine” instead of“column”, so in Publicaţiunile periodice româneşti (ziare, gazete, reviste)= Romanian periodicals (newspapers, gazettes, magazines) by NervaHODOŞ, Al. Sadi IONESCU, Bucureşti, 1913, at letter “S” wasmentioned:

Sachistul român. Bucureşti. Aug. -? 1881.

Newspaper exclusively dedicated to chess.

From that moment on, in many other chess publications, this informationwas used without any other proofs.

And now the truth. In fact it was an article published in Resboiul românnewspaper, no. 268, Anul III, 6.ii.1881, entitled Şiachistul Român dinParis (The Romanian chess player in Paris), about Hercule A. Gudju.

For the earlier items, the quality is poor.If not stated otherwise, all bulletins edited by the F.R.Ş. (The Romanian

Chess Federation) during 1950-1990, even some after 1990, weretype–written and reproduced by litho system. These bulletins wereissued in a limited number, so they are hard to find.

After 1990, the bulletins are in better condition, being computer processedand reproduced with modern copying systems.

This chapter refers to works having a connection with the chess theme,from literature: romans, novels, poems, colouring books for children, tillcrosswords, mathematics, computers a.s.o.

Because the game of chess was introduced late into the social life ofRomania - comparing with other countries - I considered that it would beinteresting and useful to mention the first dictionaries which contain chessterms.

Many of the works appeared in several editions and the notemany editions is used to inform the reader about this. For the editions withstill lacking details, we shall fill the gaps in time. Anyway, the mostimportant editions can be found in this volume.

1832. In this old book kept in the Library of the Romanian Academy (codeI 80781), we find at page 133 the old version sandraci, an altered formof the şatrance, the old Romanian term for chess.

future improved section! And my main intention is to develop as muchas possible the pre-WW I section.

In this chapter I have included not only periodicals with a regular chesscolumn, but also magazines/newspapers where were mentioned anyconnections with chess, and mainly for the older publications.

After WW II many magazines and newspapers began to include a chesscolumn or chess news. For these, I did not intend to present here moredetails than a simple mention.

CHESS AUCTIONSSince 1999, many of the goods of the late communist dictator Nicolae

Ceauşescu were sold in a series of public auctions. Among them, there wereseveral interesting chess sets, given to Ceauşescu as gifts.Auction catalogue - 9-14.viii.1999, Bucureşti.

Chess set made from wood, gift from Anatoli Karpov, sold for38,000,000 lei = approx. 2,200 Euro (plus taxes).

Two other chess sets, were sold for 85,000,000 lei (= approx. 5,000 Euro,plus taxes) and 26,000,000 lei (= approx. 1,500 Euro, plus taxes).
