TEMA NR.2
Write an essay on modern and traditional societies
Within the last century the role of traditional values among society has been changed as never
before. As far as I am concerned these changes are to a great extent negative.
To begin with, modern society don't need traditional values at all. Members of modern society
live in a totally different environment, where there is no room for fostering traditional values. Traditions
and customs have been forgotten for the sake of modern technology and gadgets.
econdly, the decreasing role of traditional values are closely connected with the !ace of today
living. "or many of us, it is extremely hard to find some s!are time for entertainment. #o wonder that
we couldn't find time for cultivating traditions.
Thirdly, traditional values are irrelevant to modern society as modern society is less and less
interested in religIous !ractices, which we can see by decreasing number of !eo!le attending regularly to
church. $ur faith is connected with traditions and customs.
In contrast, actually there is some ho!e for cultivating traditional values in the elderly, who are
more conservative and therefore closer connected with tradition. The %uestion is that, whether we can
treat them as a modern society or not.
Taking these !oints into consideration, I would say that in modern society, within the world of
intermingled cultures and &uxta!osed nations there is barely a !lace for traditional values. In my o!inion
I wouldn't exaggerated if I say that this situation won't change for the better during iminent years.
A member of a traditional society would feel as though there are many advantages of his or her
ty!e of society as o!!osed to modern society. A member of a traditional society would feel as though
modern society has %uite a few flaws. Traditional society focuses more towards the im!rovement of
society as a whole rather than focusing on self and !ersonal gain. There are many com!arisons between
the two societies that can be made that show the differences in beliefs held by each society. y
com!aring the economies, material cultures, and lifestyles of both societies it is easy to see why a
member of traditional society would believe that his or her society has an advantage over modern
societies. The economy of a traditional society is com!letely dissimilar to that of modern society. "or
exam!le, in a traditional society, !roduction is meant for use as o!!osed to modern society !roducing for

growth and monetary gain. A member of traditional society would be o!!osed to !roducing for !rofit
growth because in traditional society the main reasons for !roduction were use and subsistence. eing
that that they !roduced to survive there sim!ly wouldn(t have been a need for all of the excess that
modern society !roduces in order to increase !rofits. "or exam!le, the traditional society worked
together to !roduce the cro!s or goods that they needed in order to survive as a whole. In modern society
!eo!le !roduce in order to get ahead of the grou! and gain something over someone on individual level.
In a traditional society they thought that having something that others did not would lead to !roblems
and cause the society as a whole to take a ste! back because they did things as a grou! and in order for
that to work the common goal must be to focus on the advancement of society as a whole. In traditional
societies, materials were seen as resources to hel! with the survival of the society as a whole. In modern
societies resources are not always used for social ends.
As a result of globali)ation some cultures and traditions are been lost. When change emerges in
such a way that it condemns your own traditions viewing them as old and stale, such situations give rise
to conflicts like in the case of Michael $bi. The fact that both modern methods and traditional ways are
both im!ortant and valuable for our community cannot be over em!hasi)ed. What is it about tradition
that makes it so im!ortant to !eo!le, that even as the res!ond to change they still don't want to !art with
it* We usually think of traditions as something that is !assed down through the generations, they can
also be started again by doing the same thing for three years in a row to !ositive emotions and feelings
of love. Traditions today are our most !ri)ed !ossessions that stay the same it reminds and links us to
our !ast, our roots, and our family. +ventually as we yield to change we can only come to the reali)ation
that modern methods and traditions are both im!ortant to us, and with the hel! of our knowledge and
ex!erience we have gained over the years we can confidently say that a common ground can be
established on which modernity and tradition can coexist in such a way that it benefits the !arties
involved.
