I was walking towards Piccadily when I realized that a man with a ginger beard, whom I had alreadyseen three times that afternoon, was following me. To make quite sure, I walked on quickly/ I quickened mystep, turned right, then left and stopped suddenly at a shop window. At Gloucester Road underground, I left the bus and bought a ticket at a ticket machine. As I was standing onthe platform waiting for an East End train, I saw my pursuer coming down the stairs. He was carrying a

newspaper and when we got into the same compartment, he sat in one corner reading it. I was reading theadvertisments on the wall of the car. He would look at every station over the top of the newspaper to see if Iwas getting out / off.

I became rather tired of being shadowed like this, so finally I went and sat beside the man and askedhim why he was following me. At first he said he was not following me at all but when I threatened toknock him down, he admitted he was. Then he told me he was a writer of detective stories and was trying tosee if it was difficult to follow someone unseen/ without being spotted. I told him he hadnt been unseen /discrete at all because I had noticed him in Piccadily and advised him to shave off his ginger beard if hedidnt want his victim to know he/ she was being followed.
