Capacitive proximity switches are non-contact and wear-free sensors fordetection of metal (electrically conductive)and non-metal (non-conductive) targets.

The switching distances of capacitivesensors can vary considerably. The largestswitching distances are achieved byconductive materials (e.g. metals). Whensensing metals with capacitive sensors,reduction factors for different metals donot have to be observed as opposed toconventional inductive sensors.

The switching distances for non-conductive materials depend on the

dielectric constant: the larger the dielectricconstant, the higher the switching distance(see table).

Adjustment of the switching distanceThe switching distance of almost allcapacitive TURCK sensors is adjustable(by a potentiometer) to match the specificapplication.

Auf Wunsch werden auch Sensorengefertigt, deren Gesamtlnge individuell aufIhre Applikation zugeschnitten ist.Damit sich die Sensoren einfach undplatzsparend in die Applikation intergrierenlassen, ist die gesamte Elektronik im Stabdes Sensors untergebracht.Die Sensoren sind in vier verschiedenenWerkstoffen erhltlich (PVDF z. B. fr denEinsatz in agressiven Medien, dreiEdelstahlvarianten, z. B. fr den Einsatz inder Lebensmittelindustrie).

Linear position sensors tothe magnetostrictiveprinciple

This provides the sensors with system-relevant advantages, particularly for use infilling level detection applications. Themeasuring range can be programmed onall devices to suit the application. Thisensures that the output signal is onlyreproduced for the required range.

If required, sensors can also be custom-manufactured to ensure that their totallengths perfectly suit your application.

The entire electronics are integrated intothe rod of the sensor, ensuring ease ofintegration in the application.

The sensors are available in four differentmaterial versions (PVDF e. g. for use inagressive media, three stainless steelversions, e. g. for use in the foodstuffsindustry).

All variants are suited for use in potentiallyexplosion hazardous areas in conjunction

with the respective equipment(e.g. the IM33-22Ex-Hi/24VDC isolatingtransducers/ loop isolators from TURCK)(ATEX EEx ia IIC T4 approval applied for).

The plastic types (PVDF) are available inmeasuring range lengths from250...14600 mm. The sensor is flexiblefrom a length of 8000 mm (on request withshorter lengths). The stainless steelversions are available in three qualities,from the simple 1.4404 stainless steel topolished steel with Ra= 0.8 for use in thefoodstuffs industry, right up to steel with

Ra = 0.5. The simple stainless steel versionis available in measuring lengths from250...7000 mm and the polished versionsare available in measuring lengths from250...3000 mm.

The R16 series also offers an extendedrange of diagnostic features. If the positionsensing element is in the set measuringrange (measurement path), the outputvalue is in a range of 4...20 mA.

If the position sensing element is located

outside the measuring path, but stillin the possible measurement range,the output value is 3.9 mA on the 4 mAend of the range and 20.1 mA on the20 mA end of the range.

If thepositionsensing element

is located outsidethe possiblemeasuring range,the valueat bothends = 3.8 mA.

Bauform LT3

Der LT3-Sensor verwendet zur Ent-fernungsbestimmung die Laser-Laufzeit-

technologie und ist somit extrem leis-tungsfhig. Der Laser pulsiert eineMillion Mal pro Sekunde; die Impulslaufzeitzur Detektionsflche hin und zum Sensorzurck wird vom Mikroprozessor aufge-zeichnet. Pro Millisekunde werden 1000Impulslaufzeiten gemittelt und der entspre-chende Wert wird an den Ausgangweitergeleitet.Durch die hohe Reichweite des Sensorslassen sich auch Kleinteile oder wenigauffllige Objekteigenschaften sichererfassen.

Bauform Q50

Der Sender und die Optik erzeugen einenLichtstrahl, der auf eine Objektoberflche

gerichtet wird. Das Licht wird vom Objektreflektiert und trifft dann auf ein orts-empfindliches PSD-Empfangselement.Der Abstand der Objektoberflche vomEmpfnger bestimmt den Winkel, mitdem das Licht auf das Empfngerelementauftritt. ber diesen Winkel analysiert einMikroprozessor den Abstand und ndertentsprechend das Ausgangssignal.

Series Q50The emitter circuitry and optics create alight beam which is directed toward atarget. The light is reflected by the targetback to the sensors position-sensitivedevice (PSD) as the receiver element.

The targets distance from the receiverdetermines the lights angle to the receiverelement. The angle is used to analyse thetarget position by the microprocessor,which calculates the appropriate output

value.

Abstrahlwinkel der Bauformen Q45Uund T30U deutlich grer. Fllstands-regelungen lassen sich mittels Zwei-punktsteuerung durch Ein- und

Ausschalten einer Pumpe realisieren.

Housing styles and sonicangles

TURCKs ultrasonic M18/M30 sensorswith threaded metal barrels have a verynarrow sonic angle of approx. 6.

Therefore, these devices are especially

suited for precise detection of relativelysmall targets. The concentrated sonicbeam provides sensing ranges of up to6 m. With angles between 12 and 15, thesonic cones of our Q45U and T30Usensors are significantly larger.

Level controlling can be realised by adualpoint control (activating or de-activating a pump).

Some ultrasonic sensors have an externalsonic transducer which is contained ina separate compact housing. The electro-nics are located in the regular sensorhousing. This separation is especiallyadvantageous when mounting space islimited.

Funktionsprinzip

levelprox-Sensoren erzeugen einen hoch-frequenten Ultraschallpuls, der durch ein

Koppelgel von auen in die Behlterwandeingekoppelt wird. Dieser Puls breitetsich innerhalb der Wand und der Flssigkeitaus und wird von verschiedenen Flchenreflektiert. Die Art der Reflexionen gibt

Auskunft darber, ob sich vor dem Sensoreine Flssigkeit befindet oder nicht.

Betriebsarten

Im Nachhallverfahrenwertet der Sensorausschlielich die Reflexion an der anliegen-den Innenwand aus (siehe Abbildung).

Gasblasen oder Schwebstoffe in derFlssigkeit und Einbauten wie z. B.Rhrwerke stren den Betrieb nicht. ImLeerzustand sollte die Behlterinnenwandaber mglichst frei von Medienresten sein.

Sind Medienreste nicht zu vermeiden, kanndas Echoverfahrenzum Einsatz kommen(siehe Abbildung). Hier wird das Echo dergegenberliegenden Innenwand ausgewer-tet. Da der Schall den Behlter zweimal

durchqueren muss, sollte die Flssigkeitmglichst homogen und sauber sein.

Einbauten sind nur dann mglich, wenn sieals Reflexionsflche dienen knnen.

Dielevelprox-Sensoren LPRE-T50...und LPRE-M30... lassen sich in beidenBetriebsarten betreiben. So ist in jeder

Applikation die optimale Sensorfunktiongewhrleistet.

Function principle

levelproxsensors generate a highfrequency ultrasonic pulse which is coupledto the container wall from the outside usinga coupling gel. This pulse propagateswithin the wall and the liquid and isreflected by several surfaces.

The reflection characteristics indicatewhether there is liquid at the sensor level.

Operating modes

In the reverberation mode, the reflec-tions of the inner wall adjacent to thesensor are evaluated (see drawing).Gas bubbles or particles in the liquidand installations such as stirring deviceshardly affect the sensor; yet if the containeris empty, no residues should adhere to thecontainer wall. Should this not be avoid-able, we recommend the echo mode(seedrawing). In this mode, the echo of theopposing inner wall is evaluated. Since the

sound has to traverse the container twice,the liquid should preferably be homo-geneous and free of contamination. Built-infixtures are admissible, provided they actas a reflective surface.

Montage

Die Bauform T50 ist fr die Schwei-und Klebemontage ausgelegt; die Bauform

M30 wird ber einen Schweiadapterfixiert, der auch mit Spannbndernbefestigt werden kann.

Niveauwchter knnen dort eingesetztwerden, wo Fllstnde von leitendenFlssigkeiten zu berwachen und zu regelnsind. Typische Anwendungen sind z. B. dieGetrnkeabfllung mit sicherer Unterschei-dung von Schaum und Flssigkeit.

Mit Niveauwchtern nach dem konduk-tiven Messprinzip (Leitwertmessung)lassen sich grundstzlich alle Flssigkeitenmit Wasseranteil berwachen. Dazu wirdder Flssigkeitswiderstand zwischen zweiin die Flssigkeit eintauchenden Elektrodenals Messgre herangezogen.Um Ablagerungen und elektrolytische Zer-setzung zu vermeiden, wird als Sonden-spannung eine Wechselspannung benutzt.Die Fllstnde werden durch Relaisschalt-zustnde gemeldet. Dadurch lassen sichfllstandsabhngig z. B. Pumpen und

Ventile ansteuern.

Die Niveauwchter sind als Aufbaugehusefr die DIN-Schiene erhltlich. Die Reiheumfasst preiswerte Gerte zur Erfassungeines Schaltpunktes sowie Gerte mitzwei Schaltpunkten und einstellbaremWiderstandswert.Gerte aus dermultisafe-Baureiheverfgen ber ein Weitspannungsnetzteil,das die Versorgung von 20 bis 250 VAC/DC erlaubt.Ergnzt wird das Angebot durch selbst-konfektionierbare Edelstahl-Elektroden.

Level controls can be used to monitor andregulate the level of conductive liquids.

They are typically used in bottlingapplications where a reliable distinctionbetween foam and liquid must be made.

Conductivity type level controllers aresuitable for all water-based liquids(conductance measurement). Theymeasure the resistance of the liquid

between two probes which are immersedin the liquid.

AC voltages are used in the probe circuitto eliminate the build-up of deposits as wellas corrosion. The levels are signalled byrelay switching states. This fill leveldependant output enables, for example,operation of pumps and solenoid valves.

The level controls are available as top-hatrail (DIN standard) mounting housings. Therange includes attractively-priced devicesfor detection of a switching point as well asdual level sensing regulators andadjustable resistance values.Devices from themultisafe series avail of awide voltage range universal power supplywhich accepts an input supply voltage

from 20 to 250 VAC/DC.The range is rounded off by self-assemblystainless steel probes.
