    DISTRICT BRASOV

  • Braovis a county ofRomania, inTransilvanya, with the capital city atBrasov. The county incorporates within its boundaries most of the Medieval "lands" BurzenlandandFagaras.
  • InHungarian, it is known asBrass megye, and inGermanasKreis Kronstadt. During Austro-Hungarian administration, from 1876 to 1918, there was a county with similar name (see:Brass County).
  • The Old Town, including theBlack Churchand main square or Council Square (Piaa Sfatului), featuresmedievalbuildings in different architectural styles.

  • Around the main square you can find the picturesque pedestrian-only Republicii street, the Black Church, former Council House, indoor and outdoor terraces and restaurants, the Orthodox Cathedral,Murean's House, theHirscher House, theStrada Sforiiand more. OnTmpaHill, located on the southern side of the city, there was a citadel called Brassovia, and the remains can be seen there today, along with the Weavers tower and thecable carstation going up to the top of Mount Tmpa.

  • Bran Castle

  • It is marketed as the home of the titular character inBram Stoker'sDracula. There is, however, no evidence that Stoker knew anything about this castle, which has only tangential associations withVlad III, voivode of Wallachia, the putative inspiration for Dracula. The castle is now a museum open to tourists, displaying art and furniture collected byQueen Marie. Tourists can see the interior individually or by a guided tour. At the bottom of the hill is a small open air museum park exhibiting traditional Romanianpeasantstructures (cottages, barns, etc.) from across the country.


  • Dracula's Castle was built on the outskirts of passers Bran and nowadays is a continuous curiosity for visitors from everywhere you want to discover as much of its secrets.

    They say that the castle belonged to Count Dracula (Vlad Tepes), but there is no proof of this. He lived only a short time in the castle, and only as a guest.

  • Biserica NeagrorBlack Churchis a cathedral inBraov, a city in south-easternTransylvania,Romania. It was built by theGerman communityof the city and stands as the mainGothic stylemonument in the country, as well as being the largest and one of the most importantLutheran(Evangelical Church of Augustan Confession in Romania) places of worship in the region. The cathedral is a major symbol of Braov, and a museum open to visitors of the city center. A Lutheran service is held each Sunday for the small German community in the city.

    Rnov Citadelis ahistoric monumentand landmark inRomania. It is situated inRasnov,Brasov Country, in the immediate vicinity ofBrasov.
  • Thecitadelwas built as part of adefencesystem for theTransilvanyan villageexposed to outsideinvasion.

    A decisive aspect for building the citadel on the actual location was the route of the invadingarmieswhich were coming from the Branpass and were passing through Rnov, on their way toBurzenland. The only chance of survival for the inhabitants of the areawas the refuge inside the citadel. Compelled to stay there fordecades, the people of Rnov and the nearby villages turned the fortification into a dwelling.

  • Strada sforii(Romanian for 'String street',German:Fadengasse) is the narrowest street in the city ofBraov,Romania. It is believed to be one of the narrowest streets in Europe (Spreuerhofstrae, in Germany, andParliament Street, in England, are narrower).

    It is situated nearchei Gateand it is perpendicular to Strada Cerbului (Stag Street). It was initially built as a corridor that firemen could use, and it is first mentioned in 17th century documents. Strada sforii is now a tourist attraction and meeting spot. Its width varies between 111 and 135 centimeters, and it is 80 meters long
